I gave 3 stars because it works, but only if you are very, very gentle with it. I had use some 2x6 cut offs I had laying around. All soft pine. The splitter was doing OK for about 20 min, at least much quicker then when I used a axe. While I was doing it the paint started to come off from the blade, so I guess it will rust very soon from being outside. Then there was a hard spot in the wood. The handle bent to the side and I was no longer able to get anything done. Had to take the whole thing apart in order to fix it. Looks like I will have to do the same after every time I use it. I will keep it just because it is better than using an hatchet. But buyers be ware. Look at the attached pictures.

Doesn't work. Wood falls away from the splitter before you can hit the wood with the blade.

Just did an open box check on this wall-mounted firewood splitter and my first impression is really good. Everything arrived well packed and the metal construction feels solid and heavy-duty right out of the box. The steel looks thick and durable, and the blade area appears nice and sharp. The locking bolt design is a nice touch too. It keeps the splitting arm secured when it’s not in use, which will be great for safety once it’s mounted on the wall in the shed. The overall design looks simple and practical—no complicated parts, just a straightforward tool that should make splitting kindling a lot easier. I haven’t mounted it yet, but based on the build quality and design, it looks like it will work really well for making smaller firewood pieces and kindling. I’m planning to mount it near the wood pile so it’ll be easy to use during the colder months. So far, great first impressions from the box. I’ll update later once I get it installed and start putting it to work.

I wanted to like this thing and at first blush, it’s pretty good. The metal is thick and heavy so it feels sturdy. Manufacturing is mediocre but this isn’t a precision tool so it’s not a big deal. Once I got it installed I started seeing a lot of caveats to the “pretty good.” It’s pretty good EXCEPT for: 1. It’s too small. It’s pretty typical for firewood to be cut to about sixteen inches but this splitter can’t hold anything bigger than twelve. 2. The handle is too short and it’s hollow. I’m a big guy at six feet and 260lbs and I’ve been weightlifting for 25 years and this still took pretty serious effort to do the job. A smaller person will struggle even after finding smaller firewood. I’m reasonably sure the handle will buckle over time with the amount of force required. 3. The paint job is mediocre at best. From an appearance standpoint it’s ok but the unpainted parts have already started showing rust so I doubt the action will remain smooth. I heavily greased the friction points to eek a little more life out. 4. While the metal is pretty thick, the bolt at the hinge is not. They will give up the ghost well before anything else. A rated bolt or a thicker one would do much better. 5. The safety bolt is silly. The splitter comes with a tiny bolt to put through the blade to hold it down when not in use. Mostly to prevent small hands (or German shepherd noses at our house) from opening it. But this is a very small bolt with a very small, matte black nut on it. This is designed for outdoor use. I wager that nut will disappear into the grass in a week and never be seen again. They should have used the lock pin from a trailer coupler or something. So in theory, this is nifty. If your wood is short and easy to split, it’s a good buy. If not, the folks who made this need to brush up on leverage and torque and a few other bits of engineering. I will be modifying mine to make it more useful- lengthening and reinforcing the handle, mounting the blade higher up for normal sized wood, and replacing the hinge bolt and security bolt.
