I have been trying to reseed several areas on my lawn and this seeder has made things so much easier for me. It is easy to put together (the instructions make sense) and very easy to use. It also holds a lot of seed which means less time having to refill and getting the job done a lot faster. It is very sturdy and the fabric is heavy duty and feels like this will last a very long time. The crank on it allows the seed to flow out evenly giving full coverage in the areas I am trying to seed. If you are one that enjoys caring for your lawn, this is a great tool to add to your arsenal. You won't regret purchasing it.

I don't have a huge yard but hoped to make a pollinator garden this year, to help with the environment and save me time landscaping. It was pretty difficult to get put together. Thankfully, I had my own tools to use. It does feel sturdy once it is together. I like that the bag is structured with supports inside to keep it in shape. However, seeding a pretty large hillside with this much weight was much more difficult than I had anticipated. Walking on the hillside, while cranking and lugging probably 35 lbs was taxing. It did spread the seed well, it just kind of shoots out everywhere once it hits the plate on the bottom. I probably won't use this anymore as I really only got it for seeding that hillside. It did it's purpose but was difficult to put together, and pretty heavy to lug around.

I tried the included tools for assembly, but found them inadequate for the job. I used a hefty Philips screwdriver and a socket. The area where you would normally use a ratchet made it difficult to manipulate the ratchet, so I used the straight handle for the socket. Instructions were very clear on the assembly, and it took about 15 minutes from start to finish (once I figured out that I needed more robust tools). I found that it was easier to screw on the crank handle by setting the unit in my lap, pointing the screw end of the bar upright, and gently aligning the crank to get it started. This spreader is intended to rest on your left side and crank with the right hand. There is a curved rest against your left thigh, and a grooved place on the undercarriage to use your left hand for stability while operating. This spreader made distributing some weed killer granules over the lawn quick and easy. The capacity was such that I put the entire bag in at one time, allowing me to cover the entire yard in one trip. The gears, shaft, and crank handle, adjusting rod, and feeder plate over the opening are metal. The undercarriage is a thick, durable plastic. The distribution blades are a lesser thickness of plastic, but still seem to be a good quality which should last. The strap was very comfortable without putting too much of a strain on my back. I had to tinker around with the adjustable dispenser to get the desired volume going through the feeder. The baffle protected me from getting the granules on my legs. The manual crank was just far enough from my body that it didn’t hit me as it turned, and was situated so it was easy to use without straining my arm.

Very uncomfortable and did not fit well on my body. The consistency of the amount of fertilizer distribution coming out of the bag was not good. Stability not good. Putting it together was a bit challenging as well. I would suggest to spend a little more money and get the spreader that has wheels on it for BETTER distribution of fertilizer and easier to operate.

Distribution is inconsistent and the "tools" that came with it for assembly weren't the proper size. Specifically the screwdriver. I've tried running this 4 times already and am constantly having to shake it to get it to drop seed, or else it's all just dumping at once. The "anti slip pad" is useless and the handle is way too long. Had to take off the distribution wheel in order to attach the feed rate selector lever. A few simple design changes would make this more consistent and useable.

I got this broadcast spreader to reseed some large sections of yard. The chickens, armadillos, and madmen on four-wheelers have made a mess of my yard in several spots, and it really needs some help to look nice again. My father had a very similar product, and since I've used it in the past, I'll make my comparisons based on that experience. First off, the value for money on this item isn't great, and that's most of the reason for the deducted star. I can easily find more reputable brands with nicer canvas seed bags and more metal parts for only $5-10 more. Functionally, this one works just as well as the older, slightly more expensive model that I'm used to. They both have 25# seed bags, they're both easy to load, use, and carry, and they both fling seed around with reckless abandon. However, the older model does seem to be better in build quality than this one. The most noticeable difference in quality is in the seed bag. The older model I have access to has a much heavier-duty canvaslike bag, while this one is built from fairly flimsy-feeling nylon. Mind you, I've had no trouble with this newer model, but I just have the feeling that it won't hold up over time quite as well as the old one. This new spreader also has more plastic parts than the old one. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but only time will tell how it stands up to lots of fescue seed. Assembly wasn't a problem, but the included tools are nearly useless, especially the screwdriver. You really need a #3 Phillips to do the assembly properly, and the screwdriver is somewhere in #1 territory (much too small). However, if you're the type of person who wants to seed your own yard/pasture/wildflowers, you should already own the simple tools needed to assemble this seeder. If you need to do any large-area seeding, this is definitely worth your consideration.
