  • A LIttle Defense for Wahl On Complaints of Others .
I was a little worried about using a battery clipper especially with the negative reviews that said this clipper would tug at ones hair . I had used a competitors corded for years which became dull and was causing a short in my GFCI breaker system . I know what tugging is and this WAHL has good power for a personal clipper . Another complaint I heard was this doesn't cut close enough . Don't listen . I was excited to try the ear trimmer as I have never been able to do white walls over the ears . I made a " mistake " and needed a fix as we know hair grows back . I used the 1/16th with the lever moved up for closeness and buzzed my head in less then 5 minutes . This thing has power equal to my old corded and it is easier to use without a cord . It cut close enough to shave with one pass . Firefighters who like to go shaved will love this . A very important item no other reviews mentioned is the charger will not over charge the battery so you can leave it plugged in all the time for a full charge ( a surge protected outlet may be best ) . It also comes in a wonderful soft carry bag that would fit easily in a small carry bag for traveling . It could easily fit in a glove box . With a hour and 4o minute reserve one could easily do several cuts when off grid for whatever reason or traveling . The power button is a tad awkward but you can't as easily trip a push button as a normal slide bar switch found on corded clippers which would run the battery out - obviously why designers used this style . As far as the oil provided not being adequate Amazon has a bottle that will last years for $3 that also qualifies for free shipping if combined with the order . The casting on my blades was absolutely not rough but very clean and the clipper is chrome and black very nice in appearance as well as full normal size . The trimmer that comes with it is also very nice but I haven't had a reason to use it though for those who were sad it wasn't a lithium Lion tool a simple enuloop rechargeable battery creates the same efficiency . Good luck and have a great day hope this helped ease some fears created in other reviews the key will be how long this lasts as the battery is not customer serviced . My last corded went over 10 years they are about 40% less in price at around $30 . Note : it is March of 2013 clipper is working great as well as my talents with it are improving . It will quick charge in 15 minutes so I have stopped leaving it plugged in all the time and just plug it in before cutting my hair . I am using the little clipper to trim around my ears and my eyelashes . I cut my hair much more often with this set up . I just kneel in front of my toilet and let the hair fall in it . Thankfully buzz cuts are in style not that I ever cared that much about being in style . I find cutting the hair then jumping in the shower the best way to go . With this not only do I save money I can have a fresh cut as often as I take the time . No more then 10 minutes unless I am shaving my neck . I take duct tape and go from ear to ear and shave my neck below making a nice clean line in the back of my head . I can check behind my head with my back to a mirror and using a hand mirror to look into it to see what I have done . Hope this helps someone . You can do it I just use a number one and go over my whole head , trim with the little one around the ears and shave the back of my neck because I have no talent and it still looks great . Some people are able to style just like a barber with practice . If you make a mistake just cut like I do and it will grow back . ... show more

  • Finally, a hair clipper that should last more than a year.
Wahl Lithium Ion Clipper -- I've been using electric hair clippers for about 10 years. They all cut hair well depending on both the accessories available, like guide combs, and the skill of the user. The biggest issue with every one of them has been battery longevity. NiCad batteries in the different brands I've used have not been up to the task of lasting more than about a year. They can be charged for several hours for a single 20~30 minute use and then the cutter is put away. But if a week later, when the clipper is needed for a little extra trim or adjustment cut, it must be charged again. -- I've also been using Lithium batteries for about 10 years. Mostly for flashlights but the energy draw is similar to what a hair trimmer motor uses and the battery chargers must be suitable for Lithium, but of the 10 batteries I picked up 10 years ago, I've only had to dispose of one for failure to hold a charge. For my money, Lithium is the only way to go. -- This Wahl Lithium Clipper set comes with just about every useful accessory required to produce the best haircut possible, including a well-made, zipper closed, sturdy bag with individual pockets to hold the two trimmers and the extra bits. The Lithium powered large clipper was about 70% charged upon arrival and required about 20 minutes to charge it fully. A hidden blue LED lights when the charger is plugged in and goes out when the clipper is fully charged. No over-charging as can happen with some NiCad chargers! The smaller trimmer arrived without batteries and requires 2 AA types. 1st thing: Before using either clipper, oil the cutter blades, preferably with a light oil like sewing machine oil. I first turned on the large clipper and listened to the motor sound. A nice, solid buzzing sound. Then I used the included Wahl oil, a drop in between each cutter blade, turned on the motor again and there was no change in motor sound. Hmm, that's odd. So a single drop of sewing machine oil was added to each end of the cutter blades. Wow! The motor speed increased about 30%! The same oiling procedure was used for the little trimmer. Same result! For me, the Wahl oil is going to be collecting a lot of dust in the following years. -- 2nd thing: With a #2 guide comb mounted on the large trimmer, I noticed that accumulated cut hair at the top of the comb could be easily tossed off into the sink, leaving a clean comb for the next pass. For some reason, that easy tossing of cut hair on the other brands of clippers didn't happen. A brush or a quick breath blow had to be used. I can't explain it but I sure noticed it as enough accumulated cut hair at the top of the guide will absolutely mess up the next cut. -- The little clipper has much smaller teeth on the cutting blades and cuts head or beard hair shorter than the large clipper. Perfect for making quick trims of my beard and mustache hair when I've gone too many days without using my electric shaver. Then I can use the electric shaver with ease. -- Overall, I'm really pleased with this Wahl clipper set. ... show more

  • Great hair clipping kit for the near bald man!
I am nearly bald with nothing on top and some hair on sides and back of my head. I use the Wahl cordless clipper and the Number 1 comb 1/8 to buzz my entire head. It is easy enough to do myself. I buzz my head every 2 weeks. So far I have had the kit for nearly 3 months and I am still on the first charge. For the money it cannot be beat. I have seen other comments concerning that the blade cannot be disassembled for cleaning. I just clean what I can and keep it oiled after every use. So far no problems but 3 months is not a good test. It does cut quick, even and does a great job. I am so glad I did not spend hundreds on a more professional clipper because this is the bomb and I am completely satisfied with it. The smaller trimmer that comes with the kit I use for side burns and around ears. The trimmer takes batteries, I can't remember if they are triple A or double A but they are still working for this 3 month period. Since both the clipper and the trimmer are cordless I wanted to make sure you knew that the power of both units is incredible. Don't fear not having enough juice power through the job. Units sound and act as though they're plugged into power. Not bad at all considering these are battery powered devices. Buy with confidence it works great! So why 4 stars and not five? The case sucks! All they had to do was put a piece of cardboard in the case walls to give it some form of rigidity and I would have given this kit 5 stars. The case flops around and sometimes (for me) the contents will fall out if not handled perfectly. Because the clipper and the trimmer are fairly heavy for such a flimsy case they fall to the floor. Luckily they are tough enough to survive a fall or two. ... show more
