  • Had one for 2 years then fan went out
Had to get another one after only 2 years. Fan went out! I was not happy about such a waste of money. Did not want to get another one of the same brand since it was such a failure but none of the other ones on the market fit in the spot where we keep this one our pontoon boat. WHen it does work, it works great. We love that we do not ever have to mess with ice while at the lake. It does keep things cold or somewhat but remember it is not a fridge, it does not compress, things have to go in cold to stay cold. The cord is long and has its own compartment for easy storage. We don't leave it on the boat but remove it so it's not in the heat/cold which is more frustrating that the fan went out on the first one because we took good care of it. Buyer beware! ... show more

  • Wish I had known about the loud fan
I don't usually do reviews and wanted to write about the things that I wish I had known before purchasing. My sister has a large Igloo brand thermoelectric cooler and after using it once, I was sold. Unfortunately the size I wanted was unavailable so I looked, read reviews and decided upon the Wagan as it was the size I wanted and had wheels too. When first plugged it, I was surprised at the volume of the fan. In my optimism, I thought it might be because it was cooling it down from room temp and when cooled would gear down. I thought wrong. The fan runs constantly and is loud enough that we can't have it behind the front seats, where we like to keep a cooler for easy access to drinks and sandwiches while on long trips. It has now been relegated to the back of the vehicle and will require stops to get what we need. It also seems to take quite a while to cool down. Due to this, we ordered the conversion plug so we can plug it into a wall plug in the house the night before leaving to get it cooled down. Conversely, it doesn't seem to keep items cooled very long once it is unplugged and still in the car. Items on the bottom and middle stay cold, but near the top and sides are getting close to room temp within 2 hours. The Igloo I had used surpassed in this and I was able to leave it in the car, unplugged, overnight. The good news is that you won't need to get ice, or worry about items swimming in water as the ice melts during the day. ... show more

  • IT'S ALREADY DEAD!!! DON'T BUY THIS COOLER!
First and foremost, the unit died yesterday, exactly 3 months to the day after I received it. When it worked, it cooled to about 38°, and I keep the cab of my truck pretty cool. Like low 70's cool. It's also pretty loud due to a noisey fan and the lack of contact the gasket makes when the lid is closed, causing the fan noise to resonate. I have called Wagan's support line, but you don't get to talk to a live person and unless you already know someone's extension number, you're only going to be allowed to leave a message in their general mailbox. Not exactly what I call "Customer Support". UPDATE: Amazon Customer Support processed an exchange of the cooler because I was unable to get ANY response from the vendor to my inquiries for parts to repair. The new cooler arrived and was placed in my garage for about 6 weeks, unused. During that time, I used a smaller model Wagan cooler that is still performing well. A few days ago I got this bigger cooler out and began using it. Although the unit was not continuously running the entirety of the time, it has to run for about 2 days, then I am back home for a day and it is turn off. This new exchanged unit sent to me by Amazon lasted for two trips out and back, about 5 days total use and has died. I cannot stress strongly enough that you do not buy this cooler. The fan will die, or the circuitry will overheat, long before you get your money's worth of use from it. I also cannot stress enough that you do not do business with this vendor. They are only on here to sell their wares and do not care in the slightest about providing something called "Customer Service". I have entered a complaint with Amazon with regard to the product, and the vendor. They should be kicked off of Amazon. ... show more

  • Not Really Recommended
I really can't recommend this item. Though it is of quality construction with fairly thick walls and top containing insulation, the thermo-electric cooler is undersized. It is also quite loud, both in the vehicle and in the hotel room at night. You CANNOT leave it running in your vehicle overnight as it will run down the battery. If your car battery is 50 amp-hours capacity, a 48 watt draw will run your battery to 50% (it should still start) in about 5 hours. Car batteries should not be discharged below 90% for max life, so if you use the 90% limit, that would be reached in about 1 hour. The products description is worded in a way that can be misconstrued: "Max cooling to ≈ 36°F below ambient temperature". While I understood what that means, others might not. What the description really means is that it "cools" to a maximum of 36 degrees below ambient...there is no "minimum" guarantee so cooling 1 degree would be within the 36 degree description. The description could have read: "Max cooling to ≈ 100°F below ambient temperature" and since there is no minimum value the description would be correct. I understood what the description was specifying, but thought that the unit might be able to cool 36 deg below ambient easily. That is not the case. The unit was capable of pulling about 25 degrees max. While it may be able to pull a 36 degree differential it would be in laboratory conditions, not real life conditions. In any case I don't believe that the unit can cool below about 40 F, even if the ambient is 60 degrees, unless you let it run continually unopened for 10 or 15 hours. It took it about 4 hours to cool from 70F to 50F (unopened) in my family room. It didn't get much below 45 degrees running overnight, when the room temp was probably 60 degrees for awhile. I took it anyway on a 9 day trip to Idaho in the back of my Grand Cherokee. I did all the testing above before we left, so I put in 2 gallon baggies of ice to supplement the cooling. With the ice, the temp reached about 40 degrees in the cooler just barley cool enough to keep milk and yogurt fresh. I replaced some of the ice each night, it didn't all melt so the unit works well as a regular cooler. Another issue is that in order to run it from 120 vac, you need to buy a power supply. The power supply looks like a laptop power supply, but a lot more expensive. The last issue is that (per the manual) if you are running it in your vehicle using the cigarette lighter type connector, you have to turn off the cooler before you start the vehicle and then after the vehicle is running, turn it back on...a somewhat minor hassle. If you can live with putting some ice bags in it to help with the cooling and can tolerate the noise and turning it on and off when in your vehicle, go for it. I returned my unit when I got back from Idaho, it just wasn't worth the price for what I got. ... show more
