When I was first asked about getting insoles as a prize for something I was like oh how bad could it be and then I saw the price… and then the kid accomplished their goal and won the prize and I felt so bamboozled! The first pair of carbon fiber inserts I was recommended for hallux rigidus were dead flat. They certainly stabilized my feet and reduced rotation of the big toes, but were problematic in terms of fit. They had to go on the bottom of the walk shoe, but needed the standard insert placed above them--result being extremely tight vertical fit. The main advantage of the Silver inserts is that they are moderately shaped and padded, while still being made of carbon fiber. Thus they fit in the shoes and the standard insert doesn't enter the picture. That's a very big advantage. The Silvers trade a bit of rigidity for a better interface with the shoes.

I bought these thinking they would give me support and rebound while trail running. I've seen the ads all over Facebook which make them look amazing. They are really firm so I lost the cushion of my trail running shoes, my right foot gets sore if I wear them for more than two hours of hiking. I gave them to a friend to try. She was miserable after our regular 5 mile hike. I ended up going to Fleet Feet and tried a bunch of shoes. I walked out with Hoka trail running shoes. They are a bit flashy for me but I LOVE them. I got the comfort and the foot roll/rebound that I was looking for.
