  • Good reliability and low maintenance at 3200miles and 2.5years of use.
SECOND BIKE JAN'25: I purchased a 2nd VIVI ebike for my family and was not disappointed! Changes from 1st bike 2 years ago: Plus1: Hanging Bag Battery with Manual Connect plug replaced with Bolted Bag with Key integrated battery connector Plus 2: Display/Controller upgraded with Speedometer, 5level Motor Adjust, Battery Level and Odometer. (See Photo) Plus 3: Front Wheel now has Lever-type Quick Connect (See Photo) Plus 4: Rear Wheel has an additional Plastic Derailer Protector (See Photo) Plus 5: Assembly and Initial Quality was fine. Concerns: 1. Bike spokes seemed a bit loose by feel. Since I had episodes of broken rear spokes after 1.5k miles with first bike, I measured the spoke tension on this second bike with a Unior Spoke Tension Gauge: Note: wheels were centered and had acceptable runnout. Gauge results: Front Wheel: For a 26" Steel Rim with 2.3mm Round steel spokes tension should be 80kgf or higher. 1. 20% of spokes had low tension (<60kgf). 2. Average tension was about 70kgf. Rear Wheel: spoke tension should be 80kgf on nondrive side and 120kgf on drive side. 1. Average tension was low: 60kgf nondrive side and 80kgf drive side. Fix was to tighten each spoke by 1/2 turn (CW) which increased spoke tension by about 20kgf. FIRST BIKE JAN'23: This bike has excellent value and good quality. It has adequate range for 20-40minute workouts on hilly roads by this older adult. The pedal assist and throttle are a joy to use and along with judicious shifting, the ride up steep slopes are comfortable. The steel frame makes it a bit heavy but sturdy. It can fold comfortably in the back of most vehicles. Packing: Cardboard box held up well to shipping but had one small hole and small tears. All the contents were well protected. Assembly: Using both the paper manual and the online assembly video, assembly took several hours with no issues. Supplied tools were adequate but some steps needed two allan keys or wrenches. Most of the time was spent tightening and inspecting. Front wheel bearing was a bit stiff and needed oiling. The chain at pedal hub needed to be pulled onto pedal sprocket. Front Brake lever had too little play resulting in grabbiness; needed to increase cable length slightly. Charging: Initial charging took about three hours. The 48V battery pack consists of 13x3 2600mAh 18650 LiPO cells in a sealed plastic box. There is a small power switch on the cable end which needs to be turned on to provide power. Electrical data from DVM and power meter checks infer that an industry standard BMS (Battery Management System) is probably integrated in the pack. This is required to maintain cell balancing, protect the battery, and optimize charging. Charge time consists of two parts. First half is in 'Constant Current' mode where the charge LED is RED. When the LED becomes GREEN, the battery is near full charge. The 2nd part of the charge cycle is probably the 'Cell Balancing' and 'Constant Voltage' Charging which is ensures full capacity and long life. The manual recommends charging for 4 to 6 hours (well past the switch from RED to GREEN). Road Performance and Ride: The only ride complaint about the bike as shipped is that the seat is uncomfortable. Amazon's recommended 'Giddy Up' seat option is much better. A power meter was plugged in between the battery connector and power cable to monitor Electrical performance while riding. A 20 minute 3 mile ride up and down a hilly route (2.3% average grade) showed that the bike provided comfortable uphills with pedal assist and gear shifting. Bike was stable and comfortable at 35mph downhill coasts. Peak power consumption was 750 watts and the ride used about 20% of the battery capacity (1.5 Ahr). The estimated range is about 15 to 20 miles on hilly terrain depending on the power setting used. The manual recommends limiting the battery use to 30-50% levels (2 of 5 Bars Left) for optimum battery pack life. Maintenance: I would add bike chain dry lubricant to the chain. The manual recommends oiling the moving parts periodically. Check all the bolts and screws for tightness during the first few rides. 25 Ride/125mile Update: The bicycle performed well for 25 4-6mile rides on hilly roads. -Battery/Charging: Charging generally took about 1hr to 'Green Light' but full battery voltage took at least another 2-3 hours. Charging to 24 hours did not cause any harm (smart charger kept battery charged at maximum with Float Voltage of about 4.2V/Cell. -For riders taller than 5foot 9inches, one needs a longer seat post. -In 'Low' pedal assist mode, the bike gives you a good workout on a hilly 5 mile course. In 'High' mode, you can power through the course with less effort and higher speed. 50 Trip/210mile Update: The bicycle was very reliable but had a few minor issues: 1. Rear Wheel Reflector fell off. Replaced with Amazon generic. 2. 3-Gear Shifter cap and screw fell out. Cap/screw replaced from a inexpensive Amazon replacement. Wear Items: 1. Rear tire Center Tread has signs of initial wear (see photo). 2. Chain/Gear mechanism needed readjustment and lubrication. 3. No signs of Battery Degradation! Battery does need 5 to 6 hours to rebalance the individual cells. (Per cell voltage goes from 4.16V to 4.20 V during the last 4-5 hours of charging). Enhancements: 1. Left Handlebar Rear View Mirror aides greatly with keeping track of overtaking cars. (See Photo) 2. GiddyUp seat with Rear Lights improve bike visibility. (See Photo) 3. Mount the battery in the soft case with the Cables and On/Off Switch right-side-up. (See Photo). This gives you access to the On/Off Switch. 100 Trip/500mile Update: The bicycle is very reliable and there are no additional issues. The only sign of significant wear was the rear tire. November 2023 200 Trip/1000 mile Update: Rear Tire Tread worn smooth but still usable (see photo). Battery bag Zipper Seam has a split ... added velcro strap to reinforce (Photo). Handle Bar Pivot tilts (loosens) when riding ... Locking Spline Screw was found to be loose (photos) June 2024 300 Trip/1500 mile Update: The Rear Tire Tread is worn completely smooth. Four of the Rear Wheel spokes broke at their Nipple ends. Battery pack is still going strong! Replaced both of the original 'Knobby' street/offroad tires with 'Street Grade' replacements which provide a more comfortable ride. November 2024 400-Trip, 2000-mile Update: Everything is holding up including the battery ... except for the spokes! Rear Wheel spokes continue to break at Nipple ends ... 9 of 36 so far. It appears that either the spokes break as they are exercised (loosen over time which then causes them to fail); OR the Rear Wheel 2-cross spoke lacing pattern puts too much stress at the Nipple/Spoke bend (see picture). (The spokes on the rear wheel are much shorter due to the larger diameter Motor Hub and this causes a bigger bend at the spoke/nipple joint with the 2-cross angled pattern). Front Wheel with the longer spokes had no failures. Since my ebike has been used regularly on paved roads for almost 2 years, spokes probably have acceptable reliability for casual-use owners. I bought a Spoke Tension gauge (Unior 1752/2) and found very loose spokes on both wheels! I re-tensioned the spokes for both wheels. Apparently, spoke tensioning and truing are frequent maintenance items. For reference, this ebike has the following spoke details: Spoke Type: Round 13Gauge (2.3mm Dia) J-bend Steel. Available from Amazon or from Vivi Store. Note that Rear Length is 216mm and Front at 252mm for this 26" Wheel model. I tensioned the Front spokes to a target of 100-110 kgf and the Rear to 110-120kgf (Drive side needs to be higher to dish the wheel to center in the frame cradle). Note: Re-tensioning the motor-driven asymmetric ebike rear wheel is tedious and tricky. It may be best to have a bike shop do the job. January 2025 Update: After 2 years, 2300 miles and 450 charge cycles, the original Vivi 7.8Ah 48V battery was finally retired. I bought a larger 10Ahr 48V compatible battery (BtrPower from Amazon). Details: The battery charged normally but the ebike shut down after about 4 miles of riding. The battery voltage was about 51V and the battery consumption was about 1 Ahr (of 7.8Ahr rated capacity). Recharging resulted in exactly the same 'short ride' shutdown. A teardown of the battery showed that one of the thirteen 3-cell parallel battery groups had only 3.00V while the others were closer to 4V. Apparently, the battery BMS detected the low cell voltage and shutdown the pack. (Draining a LiPO battery below 3V can damage it and may increase a risk of spontaneous combustion!). The root cause for the low voltage was that one of the three pack batteries was dropping voltage 10x faster than normal while idle. The aged battery cell probably leaks capacity faster than the BMS balancing circuit can keep up; particularly after a week or more of non-use. JULY 2025 Update for First Bike: 600 rides, 2.5years, 3200 miles and still going strong! Upgraded Rating to 5 stars for high reliability and low maintenance cost Maintenance and Repair History 1. Chain needs dry lubing every 100-200 miles. 2. Occasional tightening of screws and bolts. 3. One punctured tire incident. Slime in Inner Tubes helps to prevent this. 4. Replaced OEM tires for wear at 1400 miles. Replacement tires lasting longer! 5. Replaced Battery and Battery Bag at 2200 miles and 450 charge cycles. 6. After proper tightening of spokes, no spoke breakage incidents for last 1250 miles! 6. Replaced drive chain for wear after 2300 miles. 7. Replaced PedalAssistSensor (on Pedal Crankshaft Hub) for wear after 2300 miles. ... show more

  • Phenomenal value, far beyond what I expected.
Color: White Bule Size: 26 inch
I've had mine for a few weeks and nearly 200 miles, and I can heartily recommend this to anyone who is looking for a easy, cheap, and reliable first e bike. There are obviously some places where it's less than stellar-the headlight, while perfectly usable is a little on the dim side for my preference. The seat is, in a word, passable. Be ready to stand up and readjust often, because your rear is going to inevitably get sore. The brakes are cable rather than hydraulic, and seem prone to cable slip. It is easy enough to periodically adjust, but it's something that will get annoying eventually. The throttle is not as responsive as I'd like. There is a good 1.5 seconds or so of delay from when you pull the throttle and when the motor engages, and the same goes for the pedal assist. So all that sounds a bit discouraging, right? Well, here's the greatest strength that negates all those issues: THIS IS A $300 EBIKE. It does 22 mph, will do over 20 miles on mostly throttle (some hills require you to pedal), and aside from the (replaceable) seat is quite comfortable thanks to both ends having suspension. And you can fold it up and stuff it in a corner when you don't need it. You'd honestly pay more to convert your bike to an ebike than you would to just buy this one, and most if not all of those issues I previously stated can be addressed by throwing just a little bit more money at it. A solid product, well worth the price. ... show more

  • Buying experience-good, shipping experience-horrible, quality of bike-very happy(Initial review)
Color: White Bule Size: 26 inch
So this is my first experience into ebike world. Being trained in the operation and maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants, “attention to detail” and “research” are quite possibly my strongest traits. So with that said I have spent about one full year researching ebikes, reading reviews and comparing features, pros and cons, price points and anything else ebike related before finally settling on this Vivi 26” mountain bike for myself. I decided at this price point, this is where I wanted to start for personal use before buying any for the rest of the family. Here is my experience so far. Ordering: I found this ebike with 350W power and 8Ah battery through the seller hemker. Ordering was easy enough. I ordered on July 18th, with an expected delivery date of August 1st. Fair enough. About July 27th, there was still no update about the bike shipping, and when looking again at the seller hemker, I noticed that the price had dropped $20 from the time I ordered it until then. At that time, it was now showing the 500W bike selling for the price I had paid. I reached out asking the seller to explain the difference, confirm what I had ordered and asked about the bike shipping. The seller responded quickly each time I wrote, explained every difference, did confirm that the price did drop, and freely offered a refund for the difference. I was greatly satisfied with the responses. Shipping: As above, it took a full 10 days from the time I ordered the bike, until it even shipped, or at least updated that it shipped. So on July 28th, the package had arrived in California and immediately left for my location (across the country). Expected delivery date of still August 1st. The package didn’t arrive in my state until August 1st. After 8pm August 1st, Amazon notifies me my package is delayed, now to expect it somewhere between August 2-4. The updates and tracking for this package was horrible. And 10 days after the order to ship? In between this time, I found several sellers online who promised I could order the same bike, at almost the same price point, and have it in under a week’s time. WELL….the package has arrived. Open it to find the bike was neatly and nicely packaged…..EXCEPT the front wheel is so bent it is UNUSABLE. Bike Quality: I REALLY like it. As I unpackaged the bike, right away the front wheel/rim is so badly bent it is unusable. Don’t even have to spin it to see how wrapped it is. Now it is at a local bike shop tonight hoping the shop can salvage the rim and straighten it as I really don’t want to wait another week or two for a replacement from the seller if it takes that long. (UPDATE: Bike shop tried to fix wheel, but it was too badly bent to get it straight. Contacted seller and awaiting a response.) As I’ve assembled the rest of the bike, The REAR SHIFTING DERAILLEUR needed adjustment immediately, the REAR DISC BRAKES needed adjustment immediately, and the SEAT POST barely fits into the frame (needs a hammer). Beyond that “so far” the FRAME and HANDLE BARS seem good, sturdy and strong. FOLDING of the bike FRAME is super easy (compared to a similar folding bike I purchased last week for the daughter). Front BRAKE HANDLES and SHIFTERS feel like weaker plastic but functional. SHIFTERS are smooth to operate, hold position well. BRAKES work pretty good after adjusting. Not the best stopping power, but enough. The HAND GRIPS and twist throttle feel good. The HORN cylinder doesn’t work. I'm not concerned with this horn anyway. CABLES are thick, but flexible. Front HEADLIGHT works very well. MUD FLAPS are flimsy and don’t seem they will hold up well over time. Constantly had to stop and adjust them back to center during the first ride of the bike. I didn’t even try the SEAT, immediately replaced with aftermarket. BATTERY charged up easily, hooked up/plugged in to the bike simply and securely and the PEDAL ASSIST and THROTTLE ONLY mode works wonderful. MOTOR seems powerful, though without front wheel cannot test on the road. (UPDATE: During first test ride, I'm almost 6 foot and 230 lbs, the pedal assist was smooth engaging, pickup speed well and was a delight to use. The throttle mode takes a moment to get up to speed, but does so easily enough.) I am hoping that once my front wheel returns from the local bike shop true and straight, I can mount the front tire on, adjust the front brakes and actually ride the bike to see if it was all worth it. If or when that happens, I will attempt to update this review. Conclusion: Based on extensive reviews and research, I believe the Vivi ebike will be the quality as expected at this price point and a fair price point I believe it is. However, the shipping left much to be desired and the final condition the bike arrived in was a disappointment. I can say I have been satisfied by the customer response from hemker so far. (UPDATE: After the first test ride of ~5mi of pedaling for exercise, and about ~1mi of pedal assist and throttle usage, this bike is FUN. The speed isn't too fast and acceleration is what you imagine with only a 350W motor, but its speed is addictive. For a person of my height and weight, it was fun and never felt out of control. I do want to buy one of higher Watt output, but for just entry level getting INTO EBIKEs, this 350W I feel was a great buy to start at. The ride is AMAZING for me. With the duel suspension, the front FORKS are softer but handle bumps very smoothly without bottoming out. The rear suspension is a little stiff, though it might just be a preload adjustment to the spring. However it is almost the smoothest ride on a bike I have ever had.) ... show more
