I thought I would shred red cabbage with this machine but it turned the red cabbage into puree. Like completely pulverized it. But it's all good bc red cabbage puree is delicious and so much more versatile, and it all happened by accident bc of this machine so I'm very grateful. I put the cabbage puree on sandwiches and on top of baked potatoes and I put the puree in chickin salad and it's so wonderful bc not only is it delicious but it also turns everything beautifully purple. Everyone is so amazed and loves the puree red cabbage. Bc they ask, I explain i just use my handheld blender and they can't believe the machine can puree red cabbage. But it does and it does it very quicky. This is probably why it's more expensive than many other handheld blenders. Other things I like: It is easy to clean, doesn't take much room, and I use to accessory to make my own organic whip cream. The media could not be loaded. I love this blender! I hated having to get out my huge blender for shakes and my mini blender just didn't make it creamy enough. This is so easy to use and easy to put away & clean. I just rinse the blade under hot water! Makes shakes so creamy no matter what you add in likes seeds or kale. There's 5 speeds and it's lightweight so anyone can use this. I e had mine now for 7months & haven't had any issues. Very well made. Vitamix is the blender of all blenders and this one is even portable. We take with us on vaca with the travel case, so you can have a shake anytime anywhere! ... show more

I've had a Vitamix blender for over 15 years so I know the quality. I finally decided to get this immersion blender because I'm into making blended soups and this seemed useful for that purpose. (It's great!). I read about all the brands, many of which were half the price, but decided on Vitamix because I know and love their products, their high quality, and their longer warranty period. I also got a really great deal on a kit which included the beater attachment and the case, both of which were a ridiculous price when added on separately. Amazon's price was less for the package deal than the blender itself when sold separately anywhere else including Amazon. What is really interesting, is literally a few days after my purchase, the package price popped up to a price nearly $50 more than I just paid. I've seen that happen before with other items, too. I can't explain it. Maybe my low price was some kind of error? How does the blender work? Fabulous. Some have said it's heavy. I consider it substantial but not really that heavy. It works great and is easy to use. I always use it on the slowest setting. For the soups I make, I don't want them pulverized into a totally creamy texture so I operate it by pulsing on and off. That way I control the texture and don't overdo it. It goes together easily, just a quick twist. Cleaning it is very easy....get a deep container with a few inches of water with some dish soap in it, and turn the blender on for a few seconds. Clean as a whistle. Just rinse the soap off, dry it and you're done. Final note: I have a couple of soup recipes that add some cheese at the end. Most recipes say add the cheese and whatever final items go into the soup, then blend it to your desired consistency. I modify that to blending the soup BEFORE adding cheese and add it after the blending process, stirring and with a bit of added heat to help melt it. By doing things this way, cheese doesn't get on the blender blades. I found that when cheese gets on the blades, it take some time and more effort to get the cheese off. Final observation: Many blenders I looked at were metal at the bottom. The Vitamix bottom is covered with something like a silicone or perhaps rubber or plastic coating, which protects your pan bottom. This was important to me since I use this mostly with an Enamel coated cast iron pan and I wanted to avoid scratching. Highly recommended and this blender will last forever. ... show more

I was looking at lower end models but I’m soooo happy my husband researched it and said I’d be disappointed if I got something cheaper. He was so right. I use this in my Le Creuset Dutch oven and don’t have to worry about scratching the enameled surface because this has a guard. I also make my own dressing and this has been so useful! Works great in a wide mouth mason jar. And it’s so easy to clean. I simply put some water and dish soap in a clean jar and turn it on, it cleans the blades instantly and I hand dry it and put it away. It worked great for lentil soup and potato soup. It works really fast. I only wanted to blend 1/4 of the lentil soup and used it for just a minute but it does its work so fast. Plus I was having fun trying out my new toy. I’ll know for next time that it only needs a few pulses to blend through 1/4 of soup, even when it’s in a 13 quart Dutch oven. Now that’s worth every penny! Especially when your pot costs $650 and are meant to be pasted down. Dont ruin expensive pots with something cheap that doesn’t have a guard on the bottom, it’s just not worth it. ... show more

    • Great Blender So Far
I have only used this immersion blender once and it worked well. I used it to blend herbs and garlic with oil and water. It did make it finer than the regular blender that was recommended in the recipe, but was fine. If you wanted food items chopped, I don't recommend the immersion blender.
