  • Excellent quality, price, and strong laser
Model: 50km
This VFL works great and is low cost. With the increase in fiber deployment, inexpensive tools are invaluable. It's rewarding to find one that is both inexpensive and works very well. The only thing that would have been better is either including bulkhead adapters or a link to a kit of bulkhead adapters. The fit and finish of this VFL is excellent, and the laser is very bright and works extremely well. ... show more

  • Reliable 30km visual fault locator – bright red light, easy to use for fiber troubleshooting
Model: 30km
As someone who's done quite a bit of fiber optic work (home networking extensions, small office installs, and troubleshooting runs in humid Louisiana conditions where moisture can cause issues), this Trileria 30km Visual Fault Locator (VFL) with FC/LC adapters is a solid, affordable tool that gets the job done without fuss. What impressed me right away: The 30km range is legit for practical use – the red laser is bright and visible through jacketed single-mode fiber up to long distances (tested on 1-2km runs I had handy, faults showed clearly as red glow at breaks, bends, or bad splices). Easy identification of issues – quickly spots macro-bends, cracks, poor connections, or dirty connectors in SC/FC/ST/LC setups. The continuous/pulse modes are handy (pulse for easier spotting in bright light or long runs). Build feels sturdy – metal body with good grip, no cheap plastic feel. Battery-powered (uses common 2x AA or similar), lasts a long time on a set, and the universal FC/LC adapter works seamlessly without adapters slipping. Simple operation – one-button control, no complicated menus or apps. Comes with a carrying pouch and cleaning tools – thoughtful extras for field use. No overheating or dimming during extended testing – stayed consistent even after 30+ minutes of on/off cycling. Only very minor nitpick is that the beam can scatter a bit on very dirty connectors (but that's user-end, clean first as always), and it's not a full OTDR (obvious – this is a VFL for quick visual checks, not precise distance measurement). For the price, this outperforms some pricier VFLs I've tried that were dimmer or less reliable in humid/dusty environments. Great for technicians, installers, or anyone maintaining fiber networks who needs a quick fault finder without carrying heavy gear. Easy 5 stars from someone who's chased down too many fiber gremlins – bright, durable, and effective. Highly recommend for basic troubleshooting or as a backup tool in your kit. No regrets, already used it on a couple jobs! ... show more

  • I plan to troubleshoot my car's fiber optic problem rather than waste money at the dealership
Model: 30km
I have been having issues with my car audio. In researching solutions, I found out that fiber optic issues may be playing a role. For the longest time I held off on any action. I figured that I had to bring it to a dealership as they had the "special equipment". I ordered this visual fault locator after reading the description. This is capable of troubleshooting fiber optic cables of reasonably longer lengths so the short distance in a car's audio system setup would be easy. The brightness is easy to identify through even partial breaks or bad connections. To further confirm there is a flashing mode to the laser beam. Unfortunately, with the sub-freezing temperatures I am not able to begin the troubleshooting and repair process even with the assistance of a knowledgeable friend. Hence, I haven't yet determined if I need to use the included adaptor. The unit is solid and resistant to damage or drops. It comes with a pouch for storage. Although I typically love rechargeable batteries, the use of replaceable AA batteries in this tester makes more sense. No time is wasted on charging it when I need it urgently. I expect this visual fault locator to be very useful in the coming years as fiber optic plays a greater role in everyday needs. At the list price of $24.99 for the more than adequate 30km model and a great bargain. ... show more

  • Even useful for the inexperienced DIY type...
Model: 30km
I recently had to figure out why my internet wasn't working, and after some research, I picked up this fault locator. It was fairly easy to use, even if you're not a tech professional. It basically shines a bright red laser down your fiber optic cable. If the light gets blocked or stops somewhere it shouldn't, that's where your problem is. It’s super straightforward. Pros: Easy to Use: You just turn it on, and it works. No complicated instructions. Bright Light: The red light is really easy to see, even across long distances. It even has a flashing mode, which is helpful if you're trying to spot a break from far away. Built Tough: It's made of metal and feels solid. I dropped it on my concrete basement floor while using it, and it still works perfectly. It feels like it can handle being tossed in a toolbag. Comes with Everything: It has all the little adapters you'd need for different types of fiber connections, which saved me from having to buy extra parts. Cons: Batteries: It takes regular AA batteries, which is fine, but I wish it was rechargeable. Overall: If you need to mess around with fiber optic cables or troubleshoot your home network issues, this is the tool for you. It saved me from paying a technician to come out and find a simple break. It’s reliable, sturdy, and does exactly what it says it does. Total lifesaver for a newbie like me. ... show more
