  • Solid Honey Extractor
I purchased this in advance of my first ever honey harvest and was very satisfied with the quality of the product and the results (nearly 3 gallons of delicious honey from one full 8-frame super). A few notes: 1) Definitely give it a good cleaning with soapy water or a food grade cleaner prior to first use. There were some metal filings and industrial grease in mine when it arrived, which was expected (the instructions say to clean it before using too). 2) Be sure to tighten all the bolts well before use. This is essentially a centrifuge (operates just like a salad spinner or washing machine drum) and any imbalance can cause wobbling that can loosen bolts that haven’t been adequately secured. 3) The metal edge on the inside of the legs is pretty sharp and could possibly cut a finger. I’ve read some reviews where this was mitigated by sanding down the edges. I just put a strip of electrical tape along the edges and this worked fine. 4) If possible, bolt down the feet to further avoid wobbling. Otherwise your going to end up using your body weight to hold it down and keep steady. Overall, this product was easy and quick to assemble, functions well as intended, and appears to be well built for many years of use. It is also easy to clean with warm soapy water. For the price I’d consider it a good value and would recommend it to others getting into beekeeping/honey extraction. ... show more

  • Works great!
Size: 4 Frames
This thing is awesome! I have just one hive and tried the crush method and found it to be a giant pain in the rear. This thing easily extracts 4 frames in minutes with basically no effort. Can't believe I didn't start with this.

  • Works and is cost effective.
Size: 2 Frames
This is easy to clean stainless steel, easy to assemble. It came missing one of the leg bolts, however we found that tabletop use was easier due to shaking when turning loaded with one frame or two frames which do not weigh the same. Since it is hand turned it is harder to judge how fast to turn without damaging comb. There is also the ball bearing problem. There is a 6 mm ball bearing in the bottom bolt which is needed to allow the spinner to turn. We found that the best way to clean was to remove that bolt and take it out without turning it over then dump out the ball bearing into the hand to clean it. Trouble is that the wrench won’t quite fit over the bolt so an alternative is to not take off the bolt and turn over the whole machine, catching the bearing in the hand. This is a two person job, but you don’t want to lose it. If you do, just remember it is a 6 mm stainless steel ball bearing. They sent an extra o ring for the honey gate and an extra L bolt but no extra o ring for the bottom bolt so be careful with that one. Still, it works as advertised and is less expensive than most honey extractors. ... show more

  • Current version has great built quality
Size: 3 Frames
The media could not be loaded. Overall very solid build quality. Assembly takes just 7 bolts and less than 5 minutes. Comes with an adjustable size wrench for the bolts. The top and the bottom leg bolts go all the way through the barrel, so no spot weld leg break off failures like other spinners. Very stable at max spin when empty. I can see where it could shake bad if all three racks aren't the same weight. The one I got had a plastic honey valve not the metal honey valve in the item description. You have to tighten the big nut by hand, I wouldn't be surprised if it leaked. It does have seals on both sides, but the curve of the barrel doesn't let it sit flush. The metal plates on the metal shaft on the top and bottom of the basket have sharp burs that break off when bent. So I'll need to take some sandpaper to it so no metal burs get in the honey. The bottom isn't flat but coned up to the middle of the barrel. Since the valve isn't on the bottom this would let honey level up to the valve faster. The plexiglass lids had some type of white residue that comes off when scratched. No oily residue like in previous reviews, but I'd scrub it out with dish soap anyways. ... show more

  • four frame extractor is impressive
Size: 4 Frames
I cant tell for sure but it appears the drum and legs are made of a nice heavy 14 gauge stainless steel. The plexiglass covers fit well. The gear box has no lash or slop when you turn the crank. If you do find any slop while cranking the handle I found it to be in the linkage to the basket and that was fixed by tightening the bolt with the supplied crescent wrench. The gearing is about two and a half rotations of the basket for every rotation of the handle 2.5 :1. I have read some reviews where people want to attach a drill to the gear box. That sounds like a good way to destroy the gears. The basket with nothing in it is very well balanced. If you put honey frames in the basket they wont be perfectly balanced so bolt it to some half inch plywood big enough that you can stand on it while you crank. I think the honey gate is made of cast stainless steel. A silicone gasket installed to provide a honey tight seal and a spare one is provided by the manufacturer. I am impressed. Most of the time you find extractors with plastic honey gates. Common sense would tell you that a thorough cleaning is necessary before use. Assembly is also very simple with the provided wrench even without instructions. With reasonable care it looks to me like this extractor should last a very long time. I am not compensated for this review and I don't write reviews unless I REALY feel like a product is exceptional and at a fair price point. ... show more

  • Rarely give 5 stars to anything
Size: 2 Frames
Perfect for a small bee keeper with less than 10 hives. Compact, good quality stainless, well designed, honey gate works well, speed for extraction (gearing) works excellent. The only criticism is the legs are pretty flimsy but seem to hold up even with me (200 lbs) leaning over the extractor to hold it down. One should bolt it down to the floor (best) or a piece of 3/4 plywood you can stand on as you crank the handle as the amount of torque is serious. The gear box and I assume gears should last a long time as they are heavy cast iron. Recommended! ... show more

  • Plastic gate instead of stainless steel...
Size: 4 Frames
Great value! Ordered VINGLI Upgraded 4 Frame Honey Extractor Separator. I'm guessing the upgrade included the Stainless Steel gate. Came with plastic, so not upgraded I guess....
