  • Definitely not a quick install
Really confusing to install, even for a mechanically inclined person with lots of electrical experience. I can't get the AC to work, but the heat sure does. Had to put the old one back on until the weather cools off. Definitely can't have heat only with these 90⁰-100⁰ temps.

  • Thermostat good, software…eh…
Had a C-wire in place so install a snap. Once installed, basic functionality as a thermostat works fine. Having both heat & AC set points active vs old unit’s manual, either/or switch brings home into the present, technology-wise 👍. Have had old unit sitting next to this new smart thermostat for almost 2 weeks & temp reading tracks the same. Also have a separate, battery operated multi-room thermometer setup that seems on-track w/this thermostat’s setting. Hardware-wise, this seems to work just fine as a thermostat. The software side… Seems like page layouts weren’t quality-controlled. Using the app on an iPhone-12, some of the screens have info hidden by the title/heading of the page you’re on. I can see what looks like text that is peeking from underneath the page title pane, but can’t make out what it says (and even if I could, I can’t interact w/it if it happens to need input of some kind). Don’t know what I may or may not be missing in some of the setup screens. May be nothing, but who knows? Several times just logging in to the app, I received a “login error”. Just by tapping login again, it successfully logs in. No re-typing user name or password required…hmmm. Also, on the unit itself, when selecting the Wi-Fi to connect to, it shows the beginning & crops the end. Living in complex where Spectrum is the internet provider, most Wi-Fi names default to “MySpectrumWiFi##”. I’ve been ok w/the default so neighbors don’t know which one is mine. However, when selecting available Wi-Fi to connect to on this unit, you are presented with a list of “MySpectrumWi”. Only trial & error worked til I found right one to connect to. Maybe they should think about cropping the middle portion of the Wi-Fi name, showing beginning & end so as to be able to recognize the correct Wi-Fi easier? Just sayin’. On the plus-side, Alexa did connect to this unit w/o any problem. —— Overall I’m glad to have purchased this unit. Having had this installed for just a couple of weeks, we’ll see as time goes by how well (or long) this thing lasts. Actual functionality as a thermostat once setup, 5 stars. Software gets only 4 stars. Needs a little more attention to details, a little more polish, which is why I gave 4 instead of 5 overall. ... show more

  • Works great
I had a Honeywell Home thermostat and it worked horribly so I tried this Vine thermostat, the app is a little glitchy but it works for what I need, the thermostat itself works great, easy to install and less expensive than the others

  • Update! Overall simple, but a little worried about a safety issue
Update (2/20/21)- I had to update this review. I contacted Amazon for help with troubleshooting this before returning it. They put me in contact with the maker and all they had to do was reset the server connection for my thermostat and it fixed the issue of it being stuck on. Haven’t had any issues since and this was maybe 2-3 weeks ago. I updated the review to 4 stars. **** Original Review: So far the main issue I’ve had is with the thermostat not responding and getting stuck with the screen off. When trying to change the temp from my app it will say it’s not connected to the internet. I know the internet is fine so I walk over to the stat and it’s screen is off, night light that I have set to permanently on is off and it will not respond to touch. I have to physically remove the stat from the wall plate and reattach it to have it power back on. This worries me a bit as it does not stop heat/AC when it powers off like that. So we feel it’s getting way too hot in the house and discover it’s not working and needs to be reset physically. If I wasn’t home I can’t stop the heat from running via the app and would have no idea what the real temp is. I will give it another month or two and see how things go but if it continues I will send it back for a refund as that is a safety concern. It was an easy install, make sure you take a picture of how it was installed in the old stat before disconnecting your wires. I don’t seem to see any use for the dial? It doesn’t change any temps and I haven’t found a use for it in any menu? Kinda odd to have it on the stat and not just a full touch screen but maybe it works for a different type of HVAC system as mine is just a basic heat and cool. Overall it’s pretty simple. There are settings for auto on/off and schedules that I like. I have a long house so it helps to have control via the app (when it works) when I’m not near it. ... show more

  • I don't think this thermostat could be worse
I read about this thermostat online and read the reviews, so I bought it thinking it would be great! I had my A/C company install it for me, so it would be done right. The installation went smoothly and I had no problem connecting it to my phone. That is all that was good with the thermostat. When I went to program the schedule, the heat and air use the same schedule and when you program the schedule the air is always set at least 5 degrees higher than the heat. My Mom likes it warm or below 80 degrees and I like it cool and don't like it below 80 degrees, so we like to have both set at 80 most of the day. This is not possible with this thermostat. Luckily, you can make 2 custom made schedules on your phone. I made one for the heat and one for the air, so I could get by the programming part. You also can't do the custom programming on the thermostat, only on the phone app. Then six weeks after I had it, the wifi wouldn't automatically reconnect. I went to reconnect it, but the QR code was blank. I e-mailed Vine and after going back and forth with e-mails, they told me to reset the thermostat, then uninstall and reinstall the app. This was somewhat of a pain, but I got it working again. I then asked them what to do if it happened again and the told me to do just what I did this time. It worked okay for about 6 months. Well, the exact same thing happened again after about 6 months. When it wouldn't reconnect, I tried to connect it and the QR code was blank again. I reset the thermostat , uninstalled the app and went to reinstall the app. Well, this time when I tried to reinstall the app, it wiped the app off my phone, even in the uninstalled apps section and when I tried the reinstall the app, it said my phone was not compatible with the app, when it was compatible 2 days earlier. I was using a custom schedule on heat and I went to change it on the thermostat, it wouldn't let me switch schedules. I tried to delete the schedule, but it said you can only do that from the phone app, which I can no longer install on my phone. I can only delete the times and change the temperature. I had to reduce the programming to only two times, so I can put the air on when I need it, as I need to adjust the temperatures on schedule, because it is set at 85 degrees, due to me not being able to make the temperatures of the heat and air less than 5 degrees apart. With all of these things that happened and me not being able to connect to my phone, this thermostat is basically worthless to me, as it can only be used like an old thermostat that can't be programmed at all. ... show more

  • Excellent SMART electronic thermostat for the price!
Update 07/2022 - still working great and very reliable ========== (the suggested rating features of 'warmth, thickness, sheerness' aren't relevant or applicable) I had a Venstar thermostat which was horrible - the touch display didn't sense touches or 'focus' very well at all and the wifi radio was subpar causing it to lose connection with my router often. This VINE thermostat was very easy to install using the instructions included. The display is crystal clear and very sensitive to the touch, as well as having excellent 'focus' where the touch is applied on the screen. The setup is fairly straightforward, and you can skip ahead in the process and return later to finish setting up various options and features. It connected quickly to my router and stays connected reliably, and the app for Android or iPhone is excellent for controlling when away from the unit - whether you're somewhere else in the house (like in bed) or away from home altogether. I won't be using the option to connect to Alexa or Google since I've had too many erroneous experiences with their 'smart' functionality which then cause equipment interruptions, and mistakes or interferences in operation. The schedule setup is one of the easiest I've encountered in smart thermostats. The unit also has a nightlight feature which shines downward toward the floor with variable brightness levels and can be scheduled for hours of operation. The dial on the front merely adjusts the temperature - I thought it might be the same turn and push functionality that many cars have in their center console these days, but it's not... just turn clockwise or counterclockwise. And that's fine. This thermostat looks so much better that any of those I saw at HomeDepot, Lowes, or other online home improvement stores for twice the money! Summary: an excellent smart thermostat at a very good price, with a very good form factor and pleasing aesthetic ... show more

  • Good but can't get it to work with Google
So it works great from the app. And works great with Alexa, but can not get it to work with Google. Google sees it but it always says it's offline. I have Alexa as well and so out of curiosity I connected it to Alexa, and it works beautifuly. But for the price it at least works. Installation is simple. You will need a ground wire for the 24v wire which typically isn't available. It's easy to just use an available wire from the existing wire and just connect it to the ground side of the transformer. This worked perfectly. ... show more

  • Great Wifi Thermostat for my Inverter room at camp
This makes a great thermostat to go with my Rinnai wall heater for my inverter room at camp. Inverter room is insulated but changed out the wall heater I had installed last year for one that supported a remote thermostat. Previous heater was tough to dial in and it was either off or 80 in the room. This so far has been able to adjust down to 45 nicely. Inverter room needs to stay above 32 in order to take a charge and not have issues with the Lithium batteries. The heater pictured is the old one prior to replacing with the Rinnai and the wall Thermostat. I love being able to adjust the heat and turn the unit on or off from my house an hour and a half away. ... show more
