  • This screen has a ton of pro features for a budget price.
Size: DC-550-5.5"
This review is for the Viltrox DC-550 5.5" field monitor. I purchased this screen because honestly, I find them useful for a ton of different reasons. I have used them on video shoots, as monitors for Livestream events, or to see the video source from my cameras before they go to a capture card on my computer. I personally love that this screen offers three different ways to power it. Through a 5V type C, a 12V DC, or an NP-F550 battery. It makes it VERY convenient to use in most situations, and having the battery on the outside instead of internally allows me to quickly be able to replace the battery and keep going on my projects The screen is built like a brick and has a TON of pro features that I personally love like false color, focus peaking, and zebra stripes, and if you got a fancy camera and like playing with LUTS you can put them on an SD card and view them on the screen. If I wanted anything differently, I would change the HDMI from the bottom to another side, depending on what camera you mount them to, the cable could get pretty kinked up, but you could easily fix that by getting a right-angle HDMI cable as long as you don't need the HDMI out of the screen. Also, the mount that is provided with the screen is built super strong, but mine still has a tiny little wiggle. There may be some additional ways to tighten it up but that was something I noticed. This is still worth every penny in my opinion, and I have recently just left it on my camera on the tripod and it has been super useful during my music production videos. ... show more

  • My New Favorite Monitor! My New Favorite Monitor!
Size: DC-550Pro-5.5"
This monitor is going to replace my Atomos Shinobi. It’s an overall great monitor. If you receive yours and the language is in Chinese then follow the steps I’ve provided in the video to get it to English. Let’s get to the review! Pros: 1. Build quality - this monitor has great build quality. It doesn’t feel plastic and cheap like some of the other monitors I’ve used on the market. 2. Packaging - it comes with a nice carrying case that can fit everything in it. If you’ve been on shoots you know how nice it is to have care for your equipment vs having them thrown in backpacks or pelican cases. It also come with a solid monitor mount which is great for attaching the monitor on a hotshoe or top handle. 3. Color Accuracy - from my experience with this monitor the color I get from it are more accurate to my camera monitor than my Atomos Shinobi. We all know how important color reproduction is when it comes to video production. I don’t have to worry about my white balance being off when using this monitor. 4. Brightness & exposure tools - the brightness of this monitor is bright enough to be used in bright environments without a sunhood even though they include a sunhood just incase you need it. Built in exposure tools in the monitor are good but I don’t use them because my camera have the built in. 5. HDMI placement - the hdmi cable connects to the bottom of the monitor which I love Ector makes for a much cleaner setup without the risk of someone or something bumping the side and possibly breaking the hdmi cable. Cons: The only cons I could find so far was the lack of support for attachments like coldshoe mounts and the buttons clicks are pretty loud. So if you are in the middle of recording I wouldn’t recommend using the custom function button because the mics will pic them up. But you can still use touchscreen so it’s not really an issue but I thought I’d put that out there. Other than that it’s a great monitor for the price for sure. If anything changes I’ll update. ... show more

  • Good for the price and beginners.
Size: DC-550-5.5"
Not a bad screen by any means. I like the HDMI input being on the bottom rather than out to the sides personally. The screen Colors are slightly more intense than the actual video. I've noticed a few times my exposure might look good on screen but be under exposed on the actual footage, so you will need to watch lighting on camera. Takes a minute to boot up, not terribly slow but if you are shooting fast, it can be a problem. There is a slight delay from real time too, but that hasn't affected anything that I have shot. You definitely get what you pay for, I think it's a good one as a backup, or for beginners, but questionable for professional work. ... show more

  • A awesome Field Monitor! A awesome Field Monitor!
The picture quality is beautiful even in bright sunshine. I also really enjoy the option to load my own luts into the monitor which is something I find my self using more and more, because I can see what my video will look like after color grading. The process of adding them is fairly simple using a SD card once you figure out the menus. I love the pop up Sun hood, much more better than those velcros Sun hoods I hated those and I like the fact even whenever collapse it acts as a shield for the screen definitely a plus. Overall I am super happy with my purchase! I have a few different 7” monitors which are too big and bulky for my style of shooting. Therefore the 5.5” fit perfectly for my needs! When it comes to build quality I wasn’t expecting the feel or durability of a monitor or similar brands in that price point. The monitor is a full plastic build, but I bet it can thrown around in cases and bags. it has a very professional build quality feel to it. The built in features such as focus peaking, zebra, false color, and histograms all work great for what I need and provide a good enough reference for me while shooting to make me feel comfortable using them. Bottom line I love this Monitor and I'll probably be using this monitor from here on out!! it's also the best one I've had to date! ... show more

  • Wonderful Portability and Easy to Use
Overall Nice size, weight, and user friendly design. I highly recommend this monitor! I've used this on a few shoots already and it really helps frame and expose your shots. If you try to use your built in camera screen you are doing yourself a disservice. This product would change your ability to accurately see and get the shots you want in real time. I have had no issues with this field monitor, other than the included hot shoe mount I suggest you consider an aftermarket metal one if this plastic one doesn't work for you. Pros -Resolution looks sharp even compared to my 4k monitors -Colors appear accurate -On and off Switch instead of holding a button -HDMI Input AND Output -Pop up sunshade cover is amazing and protects the screen -Comes with extra HDMI cables and carrying case -Battery has USB C port built in Cons Included hot shoe mount is pretty thin and wiggles around a bit ... show more

  • My review so you don’t buy this monitor My review so you don’t buy this monitor
Size: DC-550Pro-5.5"
I bought this monitor, and after only two uses it started showing these uncontrollable screen glitches. At first, I thought the problem was the cable, so I bought a new one. However, when I used it again, it continued having the same issues. This was a terrible investment. The monitor was never dropped and was carefully stored the entire time, so it appears to have come with a factory defect. The worst part is that I can no longer return it. ... show more

  • Easily beats several more expensive options in terms of price and value
Size: DC-550Pro-5.5"
I bought this mainly because of the scopes and false color features. This tool is loaded with all the features you’ll need for the perfect shot at a decent price. The touchscreen works perfectly, although the buttons on the screen are small. However, once you set your preferences, you don’t really need to do anything other than power it on and off. There are also quick buttons to recall a setup. It has some fancy features like the ability to use LUTs, but I haven’t tested them as I don’t need them, nor do I generally like the idea of altering the image while trying to capture the best possible quality of the original footage. Still, for some, this may be a crucial feature. Brightness is fine, especially if you’re mainly verifying things using scopes, etc. It easily beats several more expensive options in terms of price and value, as I’ve been able to compare it with friends who have other, more expensive brands of monitors and recorders. You can easily find extra batteries at any camera store, eBay, or Amazon for a reasonable price. The only downside is that the HDMI cables are like “steel rods,” so you’ll need to order ultra-thin and flexible ones. The bulky cables could damage your HDMI connector if they get even slightly tangled. ... show more
