  • WORTH IT
I got this as my first monitor more than a year ago. Was well worth it and haven't had a reason to upgrade.

  • Bright, sharp monitor with typical Atomos tools
I already own the Ninja V and needed a 2nd monitor so I stayed with Atomos to keep the user interfaces mostly the same. Happily, the image is just as good as the Ninja V. It does not come with the NPF to 5.5x2.1mm adapter which comes with the Ninja V, so I purchased one from B&H. It's plasticky, but this is a positive for me because it's light - keeping my gimbal rig lighter than when I was using the Ninja V. It takes less power to run than the Ninja V also. I'd love to pay less, and I certainly could have, but for reasons mentioned, this was the right choice for me. I could get away with 2 Shinobi monitors as I rarely use the recording feature of the Ninja V now that I'm using two BMPCC4K cameras. ... show more

  • Touch screen is a bit finicky. LCD came completely loose and fell out.
Overall, I like it. However, for no reason at all (barely used at this point in time)....I picked it up to attach to my camera and when I leaned it forward the entire LCD came loose from the housing and fell out (hanging by connections). I pressed it back in place and it continues to work fine. But I have to think that it's just glued in and perhaps the adhesive loosened up (heat maybe?). Freaked me out a bit...Hasn't happened again, but I find myself pressing on it before attaching just to check now. Also, the touch capabilities is a bit unresponsive at times, but not unusable. All in all, its a nice looking monitor with good functionality. ... show more

  • Bright, feature rich, and lightweight
I live in sunny Southern California and I love how bright this monitor is in pure daylight. I don't use a hood with it but that's because I don't need one. This is my first Atomos product and it's been a good experience thus far. I use it with the bmpcc 4k and I feel that a monitor of this kind is essential because of that camera's inarticulate screen. The only thing I will mention is a worry with this monitor is how warm/hot it can get after being ON for longer than 5 minutes at a time. If you're shooting in direct sunlight without shade, I would recommend powering this off in between takes. Durability with overheating is a concern of mine, but for now it's been working without any issue. ... show more

  • Bright on a Budget
I’ve always heard great things about Atomos. This model has a ton of features and plenty bright for outdoor work. Glare is a thing, so the hood comes in handy. I’d recommend a cage for it as well to keep it nice.

  • This was a huge game changer!
I currently run a Sony A7IV which has a flip out monitor, but I personally prefer an external to make sure everything is crisp and correctly shot. I was in between the ninja or the shinobi and for what I just needed it just came down to the Shinobi. - The build quality on this monitor is surprisingly very lightweight. - Using this monitor in broad daylight I had absolutely no issue at all, it was amazing! - My favorite thing is being able to load custom LUTs. You are able to load your LUTS into an SD card and insert it into the back. - The best thing about this monitor is that I have used a single Sony L battery and that kept me running for over 6 hrs and it was still able to run! I am a run-and-gun type of creative director so this monitor was the best option for me! Also at that price point, it's hard to deny. ... show more

  • Cheap plastic and failed my on the first day of use...
I used it for the fist time at an event this weekend and it failed. The memory card reader to upgrade the device did not work. Made from cheap plastic. Will be returning and purchasing a more robust monitor. Also last Firmware Update on Atomos site was 2019, so they Clearly seem to have abandoned this product. So disappointed! ... show more
