When I was growing up, one of my favorite toys was a View Master. My parents wisely invested in dozens of the little circular photo-wheels, introducing me to Carlsbad Caverns, the African Savannah, Mammals of the World, Mammoth Cave, European Capitols, and other educational scenes. The paired photos gave me a sense of seeing other places in 3-D - of almost being there! When I ran across a View Master on Amazon, I was so excited I purchased it on the spot! When the package arrived, I could barely wait to get it into my home to unwrap my new world travel kit! Sadly, this was only marginally the device I remembered. The viewer was not at all sturdy, and the plastic lenses were not very clear. The photo wheels that came with it, while supposedly "African Savannah," were obviously not photos of actual animals in their habitat, but cut-outs, arranged on a set, of some kind, to look 3-D. To make matters worse, the list of available reels that came with the viewer was all about cartoons and super-heroes - nary an educational one in the bunch. I will keep the viewer, in hopes that the current quarantine situation will encourage the company to return to educational reels, and I can purchase views of the Ganges River, or European Capitals. Though I fear that whatever views they release will be, again, paper cut-outs arranged for 3-D appearance. How the might have fallen!!

This product just didn't work -- something about the design was VERY flimsy. I put the card into the view box and was able to advance to the next image by turning down the lever 4-5 times. Then, it got stuck, I adjusted the card, but it didn't help. I tried two of the other cards and lever could be depressed, but the image wouldn't advance. Super frustrating. I was really looking forward to sharing this nostalgic memory with my daughter as a gift.

I knew this toy would either be a huge hit or a mega flop. Kids these days are so into technology so I didn't know which way it would go. I loved playing with this toy during my childhood. I'm happy to say my 4 yr old nephew loved it! My 8&7 yr old nieces & nephew also wanted to play with it & it got passed around all day.

We were trying to think of something that started with a "V" for my son's show and tell at day care/"school"... we decided on a view master. I let him play with it the day we got it and he was hooked. He played with it all afternoon and learned how to change the disks out. The plastic case for the extra disks is very useful and easy enough for a 4 year old to use. Very happy with the purchase. Now I just need to find more disks at a reasonable price

LOVE the View Master ! My Grand has Quite a few things and I wanted something different...Flashback LOL to 1960's and OF course I went to My site of finding the unusual 99.99% of the time ! Amazon ! AND Voila!! (i know other sites but i don't have time and trust on customer service is critical to me) Best Birthday present !! He loves and can name ALL the dinosaurs and love to ID them which he does correctly (this is favorite past time for last year minimum LOL).. The 3D images are extremely nice! Very colorful,so much so ,even the landscape created and a very thoughtful, informative (to me) conversation and that was just on the one dinosaur, disk, we have not looked at the other ones yet..I really enjoy it with him and the old fashion click down priceless, His Mom laughed because in the 70;s I got her and my Son one..It is a hit with his cousins, uncle etc but the best thing of All...How much time he spends on it along with his Microscope we got..If the disk tears or messes up we will find other ones but even so if we don't find any more which i doubt, that whole day was so worth it... period. And Mom stated its still his go to every day:)

This is made of a lot cheaper plastic than the old View Masters from the old days. Also, the reels get hung up and will not turn. After we bought it, we found that it's almost impossible to get extra reels that are affordable.... These things must be made of gold. (I thought I had found ONE place to buy them online at a somewhat reasonable price, but the company took my money and did not deliver the product. Don't fall for the "cheap reel" scams like I did.) I paid about $20 for this boxed set, but it wasn't worth $3. I was so disappointed in the quality of this item because I used to LOVE looking at all the different reels when I was a child.
