Description

400P-RV Automatic offers automatic shut-off in a larger portable compressor kit that can inflate 35-inch tires from 0 to 30 PSI in less than 5 minutes. While the unit is intended for RV use, it can be used for virtually any tire since it comes with more accessories for more varied inflating situations than any other portable compressor kit on the market today. Portable compressors with automatic shutoff come into play when moving from tire to tire, and when checking tire pressure in the middle of a tire fill. A typical portable compressor must be turned off between tire fills, and anytime you want to check tire pressure. If you aren’t near the compressor, this can turn into running laps back and forth to the portable compressor to turn the unit on and off. Automatic portables do not work in this fashion and will save you time & effort to get tires inflated quickly.

  • Pleasantly surprised
Style: Compressor Kit
I really never expected a small compressor to be able to handle my high pressure trailer tires so I was amazed when the Viair did the job. My rv tires require 90 psi. I took the tires down to 70 psi just to see if the Viair could get them back to 90 psi. It took 1.5 minutes each to get back to 90. I was amazed how fast this little compressor worked. It did make a difference running my truck while using it but it would have been almost as fast without the truck being on. The gauge was within 2 lbs of the hand held gauge that I trust and that's close enough. I will not take our rv on another trip without it. Worth every penny. ... show more

  • Tips on Winterization
Style: Compressor Kit
I have an RV based on a Ford Transit DRW. I wish the filler had a 45degree hook but other than that I have been really happy with it the two times I used it tires. I also used the 400P for winterization using this kit (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08L3T5KX7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1#customerReviews) and this regulator (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RL3H6TW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1). It seemed to work very well and I liked that the regulator protected my plumbing and the gate valve meant I could safely attach-detach the gear without having to use the hand-trigger from the Viair. I looked at the Vair kit but it seemed a little overpriced and I really wanted the gate valve. HEY VIAIR: add a gate valve and a short hose to you kit and it will be perfect. Combining the two kits, I plugged the silver quick connect into the compressor hose, then screwed that into the brass quick connect. I put the quick connect socket on the input side of the regulator and connected the hose directly to the output side with the gate valve on the end of that (oriented so the on position pointed down the hose to the regulator). Finally I connected the whole thing into the hose adapter and connected it directly to the city water port. With the gate valve closed the system pressurized and I could set the regulator to 30psi. To winterize, I could open the valve and then go check on my faucets one at a time without messing with the hand-trigger. With the gate closed the compressor kicked on a little once every 40-60 seconds so something must have been leaking. I'm going to check the fittings more closely the next time I use it. I’ve only winterized once but was very happy with that experience. I wish I had taken a picture of the connections, but once you think through the parts available it’s pretty obvious. I had some pieces left over, but that was my experience with my specific equipment. ... show more

Works great, have used it several times already, I wish the carry bag was a little bigger so I could put my tire plug kit in there also.

  • Still Learning to Read Accurately
Style: Compressor Kit
Quite like this tool overall. Fills my pick-up and trailer tires quickly, nice looooong reach (can easily fill spare tire on back of 25-foot trailer when connected to battery in front of truck, more than adequate pressure, and good, sturdy accessories. The one (minor) downside is I haven't figured out just how to read the pressure gauge. Do I read it as I'm filling the tires, or stop filling and read then. directions ambiguous here, so I simply use a standard tire gauge (as I would at a filling station). Other than that, would be 5-stars. ... show more

  • Works well for my RV tires
Style: Compressor Kit
My RV tires are 245/70R19.5 and need to be inflated to 100 to 110 PSI, depending on the load, so this is significantly more difficult than a normal 35 psi car tire. My RV does not have a spare tire, so proper inflation is extra important. I also own a Bon-Aire BA121L 120V compressor with a claimed 2/3 HP I can run with the RV generator, but in testing it on an RV tire ( taking them from 40 to 100 PSI ) I had to quit after 25 minutes ( including 10 minutes of cool down time in the middle, per the manual ) at just 90 PSI when the compressor started to smoke. I replaced it with the Viair 400P-RV. I looked at the 450P, liking the continuous duty, but the 400P puts out more air, so the higher fill rate of the 400P seemed like a good idea. Also, it comes with all the parts you need to remotely fill a high pressure, high volume tire which, if it explodes while you're squatting next to it, can easily kill you. If you doubt this, do a search on youtube for "tire explosion" and you'll be convinced. First impression: It's solidly built and comes with a nice selection of accessories, including two extra air filters, toy and needle attachments, 60 feet of coiled hose in two 30 foot segments and a hand held valve so you can stand well away from the tire while filling. It has an air filler wand and a screw-on filler. The bag it comes in could be little more rugged, but it's not too bad. It's also pretty big, with a bulge on the front of the bag for one of the coiled hoses and another on the back for the other hose. In the bag it's actually not that much smaller than some of the smallest 120V compressors that I've seen. But this is smaller and lighter and runs on 12V, so I can use with my towed Jeep, too. The compressor has a pressure switch on the back by the on/off switch that turns the motor off when it gets to about 150PSI, so you can leave the compressor on without worrying about damaging it or the hoses by over-pressurizing them if it's not connected to a tire. Nice touch. To test the Viair, I dropped the pressure in one tire to 40 PSI and connected the compressor. The inline gauge read the same as my regular gauge when it wasn't filling, but it read very high while the air is going in. Just pause the filling to get an accurate reading. The compressor seemed to be filling the tire pretty quickly which was good because you have to hold the "trigger" on the valve open to fill the tire. At least it's easy to hold open, so it's not too difficult. I would release the "trigger" to check the pressure every couple of minutes and in the few seconds it would take for the pressure in the gauge to equalize with the tire, the pressure switch on the compressor would shut it off. It would kick right back on as soon as I continued to flow air into the tire. About 7 minutes after I started ( probably about 6:30 in actual compressor run time ) the tire was at 100 PSI and I stopped the test. This is significantly less than the listed duty cycle, which means it could have run longer if it needed to. I lost a little pressure taking the filler off the tire and putting my pressure sensor back on, but when I turned my tire pressure monitor system on it said the tire was at 98 PSI. That's pretty close to what the gauge read. The cylinder head on the compressor and the air line were hot to the touch, but the motor exterior was just moderately warm. I had to let it sit for about 10 minutes before I was comfortable putting it in the bag. I'm pleased that it can fill a large tire to a high pressure with some reserve capability left over. It's not cheap, but it's a good compressor and includes everything you need to fill an RV tire, or all 4 tires on your 4x4 if you use it in the sand. The Bon-Aire is going in the yard sale, this is going in the tool compartment on the RV. ... show more

  • Hot hot hot
Style: Compressor Kit
It is slower than I thought it would be but better than nothing. Seems built well although the heat is worrisome. I run my tires at about 120 psi and was able to fill all 7 tires from 80 PSI to 120 PSI without hitting the thermal overload. The case is poorly designed and I'll end up looking for something better in the long run, that don't take up so much room - maybe two cases. ... show more
