I was wanting a better quality tire inflator to carry in my Travel Trailer. It had to easily inflate my trailer tires that are rated for 80psig. I read over the reviews of several inflators and decided on the 300P. Put it to the test yesterday. I am very pleased. Had no problem handling the 80psi tires. Pumped one that was at 70 psi up to 80 in about 65 seconds. The battery clips are plenty large enough to grab onto a battery post connector. My trailer batteries are located front underside of my 34 foot 5th wheel center compartment. With electric wire and coil air hose, I reached tires with no excessive stretching. The air hose to valve stem clamp is very good and tight. No air loss and would be much easier than the screw on fittings others come with. This unit also has the "Air release" feature to let out excess pressure. The air gauge is a good quality. The pump is much quieter than I thought it would be. Comes with a very good carrying bag that has room to include any special fittings you may need. I did have my trailer plugged into electric power when using the inflator. The write up on it stated to have vehicle running while using. This is to give the 12V a little extra boost. This is understandable. The in-line electrical fuse would make it very easy to replace fuse if needed. I will be buying an extra fuse to carry just in case. ... show more

simple, fast, a little noise

the unit works perfectly for inflating tires. I use this on my old pickup that has aluminum wheels and being 10 years old tends to lose air. I could replace tires and maybe that would solve it (but the tires are in very good shape) and then after replacing them find it is the wheels... in either case not worth investing in... easier to use this [excellent] 12v tire pump. will also move it to the RV when that is being used (just in case there is a problem). By all means, this unit pumps up the 16 or 18 inch tires from 25 or 26 lbs to 44 lbs pretty quick. Nice feature is the pressure gauge is near the inflation end... easy reading. Comes with all the ends you might need... if you are looking at a portable 12v air compressor... look closely at this one ... show more

I regularly go off-roading in California's deserts and wanted a reliable way to add pressure to my tires when returning to the pavement, and to reinflate tires after a repair. I purchased this compressor in 2010 after my cheap, barely adequate $25 "tire inflator" from a department store chain stopped working. I have had zero problems with my Viair. Uses: In addition to the uses above, I use the compressor every couple of weeks to top up one of my tires that has a slow leak. I just used it to quickly top up the tires on my wife's van. I have also used it to inflate my kid's wading pool via an extra attachment that came with our bicycle pump. Pros: Well made and reliable Easy to connect to the red battery terminal and ground via the alligator clips Positive latching on to the tire stem Pretty fast inflating of even large tires Consistent readings from the integral tire gauge Packs up into a relatively small package that can stay in any vehicle 24/7 Carrying case is handy and makes storage easy Cons: Gets warm after a couple of tires and needs to cool off before packing it up The coiled hose offers a lot of resistance, making reaching the last tire a struggle Getting the compressor back into its case takes a little work Bottom line: Good piece of gear at a fair price point. Very useful compressor for your vehicle

I have a van that has corroded aluminum wheels, and it is destined to always have a slow leak. The dashboard warning "low tire pressure" light goes off at some inconvenient time, when no service stations are close by, and yet the tire pressure can already be 5-6 pounds low. I hate to drive it a lot when the pressure is this low, so having this relatively inexpensive air compressor on the vehicle comes in handy over and over. I have also used it to service the tires of the trailer I pull with the van while on vacation, and I have been able to help any number of folks in parking lots with their flat tires. This compressor does not have a reservoir, so the motor must be running to supply air. It cannot be used with air-powered tools. However, it is useful for inflating air mattresses, beach balls, other things like footballs, bicycle tires, etc. It comes with a zippered canvas bag, with the compressor in one pouch and the coiled air hose in another pouch. It has a fairly long power cord with alligator clips to attach to the vehicle's 12V battery. The motor is powerful enough that plugging it into the aux power socket (aka cigarette lighter socket) is not possible. The cord is long enough that you can position the compressor mid-way on either side of most passenger vehicles. The rest of the distance to the tire(s) is taken up with the coiled air hose. The hose has a quick release fitting so that it can be quickly attached and detached from the compressor. The other end of the hose has a standard Schraeder valve fitting, which can be unscrewed to replace with the other fittings for balls and such, which come with the compressor. The hose also has a valve to release air from the tire, either continuously for deflation, or in small pulses in order to low the pressure by a couple of pounds. The compressor supplies enough air that filling even a flat tire takes a very short time, perhaps a minute. Adding a few pounds to a low tire takes only a few seconds. Build quality is decent. The compressor has some sort of muffler inside the carrying handle, so it is quiet. The is also mounted on a vibration damping metal plate. Complaint: The compressor has a power switch located on the body of the unit, requiring you to run from the tire over to the compressor to stop the air once the tire is full. Some competing units have the switch on a separate cord that allows you to hold the switch in your hand while you monitor the tire. ... show more

Must have for any vehicle

I ordered this because my previous plastic, cigarette lighter connected air compressor would take forever to air up a tire and sound horribly loud. This VIAIR compressor is soo much faster and quieter. Also it appears to be solidly built with mostly metal parts. The air hose attaches to a standard pneumatic fitting which means if the air hose gets damaged or leaks overtime, it will be easy to replace it with any off the shelf pneumatic air hose. It will fit behind the rear seat storage area of a Tacoma Double Cab (2010) if you rearrange the accessory bag and place the air hose on top of the compressor in the main compartment of the bag. The only problem I found with this unit is that the air hose took a lot of force to get it to connect to the compressor fitting. Hopefully it will get easier with time. ... show more

Compact and durable

This is a must have on the trail or just as a back up for when you need a quick air up or for a long road trip. I found the instructions from the manufacturer to be lacking (from someone who has never used a portable compressor before) but a quick YouTube search did the trick. The product is heavy and durable. Filled my test tire from 15psi to 30 in a couple of minutes. It’s a good entry level compressor. I like that it comes with a bag to store it all in. I have spent many paychecks on Amazon all together, and I’ve loved many of the products, but written no reviews until now. This thing is a beast!! I need a small pump (I live on a bus where space is a premium). I need to pump gargantuan tires up to 80 and 100psi. I know my tires are bigger than this product boasts it can handle but it works masterfully!! It is quieter than the running engine that powers it!!! I was worried I would have to pump and let it rest but I didn’t. I pumped up all 6 tires in one go and one had gone down to 10psi and should be at 80! This pump got the job done in style. It is built like an M1 tank and pumps fast!!! The clamp on feature took an arduous task (was using a small compressor) into a turn it on and play football with my kids experience. I just check the gauge every few minutes and done!!! I am so happy!! Don’t pay triple for the “RV” version. This thing is boss!!! ... show more

Perfect for offroading

This works great. I have 33" tires and I'm able to air up from 15psi to 35psi in less than 10 min for all 4 tires. And that is just using 1 hose. If I had a 4 hose setup, I think it could handle that also. Bat is a bit larger than all the gear which allows for added extras so you keep all the air stuff together. A great buy ... show more
