Great Little compressor so far. I used it multiple times at the OBX to air up, it worked great, took about 1.5-2 min per tire if aired down to 18psi, honestly a little faster then some of the gas stations. It will get quite hot if run continuously, so I'd do a tire or two then let it sit a couple min before finishing. cables where plenty long enough to reach the back tires for the 4 door with 6.5' bed. I regularly go off-roading in California's deserts and wanted a reliable way to add pressure to my tires when returning to the pavement, and to reinflate tires after a repair. I purchased this compressor in 2010 after my cheap, barely adequate $25 "tire inflator" from a department store chain stopped working. I have had zero problems with my Viair. Uses: In addition to the uses above, I use the compressor every couple of weeks to top up one of my tires that has a slow leak. I just used it to quickly top up the tires on my wife's van. I have also used it to inflate my kid's wading pool via an extra attachment that came with our bicycle pump. Pros: Well made and reliable Easy to connect to the red battery terminal and ground via the alligator clips Positive latching on to the tire stem Pretty fast inflating of even large tires Consistent readings from the integral tire gauge Packs up into a relatively small package that can stay in any vehicle 24/7 Carrying case is handy and makes storage easy Cons: Gets warm after a couple of tires and needs to cool off before packing it up The coiled hose offers a lot of resistance, making reaching the last tire a struggle Getting the compressor back into its case takes a little work Bottom line: Good piece of gear at a fair price point. This is a serious work horse. My hotdog compressor is rated for 150psi but can't inflate my 110psi fifth wheel tires! This little unit brought all four tires up to the recommended pressure in about ten minutes. It runs on 12volt power with big clamps directly to the battery so it works anywhere. It clamps onto the valve stem so you don't need bionic fingers to hold it on. It does get hot, but not dangerously. Highly recommend this for RV travel and nearly unlimited other uses. ... show more

Style: Air Compressor Kit
PROS: Filled each of the 17" tires on my MINI from 30psi to 40psi in about 10 seconds. Acceptable noise level. Feels solid. CONS: Probably overkill for a small car or sedan. No preset pressure settings. Powered by dual battery clamps only, which limits its versatility. Instructions were text only — diagrams would have been helpful. I grew tired of messing with temperamental coin-operated air pumps at gas stations, and forget about free air pumps in Washington, DC so, I started researching personal use air compressors. The reviews on Amazon were not promising. Aside from the obviously fake 5-star reviews, every portable compressor under $100 had 1-star reviews in the 10% or higher range, which is a red flag for me. Common complaints seemed to be overheating, faulty pressure settings, and generally short lifespans. I've only used the VIAIR 300P Portable Compressor once to top off all four of the tires on my MINI, but it worked flawlessly and really quickly: 10 seconds per tire to go from 30 to 40 psi. I didn't touch the heatsink but I don't think it had a chance to get very hot. There is no way to preset the compressor to a certain PSI so it is critical to keep your eye on it and test the pressure frequently. It has an inline PSI gauge that appears accurate, meaning it matched the reading from my hand held air gauge. The instructions indicate that the gauge is not reliable during compression due to the velocity of air passing through it so, it is necessary to turn the compressor off in order to get an accurate pressure reading. The instructions were well written (not a clunky Google translation from Chinese to English) but some diagrams, especially to identify all the parts would have been helpful. Overall I think VIAIR 300P Portable Compressor is a solid tool, albeit an expensive one given its lack of versatility. ... show more

    • simple, fast, a little noise

the unit works perfectly for inflating tires. I use this on my old pickup that has aluminum wheels and being 10 years old tends to lose air. I could replace tires and maybe that would solve it (but the tires are in very good shape) and then after replacing them find it is the wheels... in either case not worth investing in... easier to use this [excellent] 12v tire pump. will also move it to the RV when that is being used (just in case there is a problem). By all means, this unit pumps up the 16 or 18 inch tires from 25 or 26 lbs to 44 lbs pretty quick. Nice feature is the pressure gauge is near the inflation end... easy reading. Comes with all the ends you might need... if you are looking at a portable 12v air compressor... look closely at this one ... show more

I ordered this because my previous plastic, cigarette lighter connected air compressor would take forever to air up a tire and sound horribly loud. This VIAIR compressor is soo much faster and quieter. Also it appears to be solidly built with mostly metal parts. The air hose attaches to a standard pneumatic fitting which means if the air hose gets damaged or leaks overtime, it will be easy to replace it with any off the shelf pneumatic air hose. It will fit behind the rear seat storage area of a Tacoma Double Cab (2010) if you rearrange the accessory bag and place the air hose on top of the compressor in the main compartment of the bag. The only problem I found with this unit is that the air hose took a lot of force to get it to connect to the compressor fitting. Hopefully it will get easier with time. ... show more
