I got this primarily for planting approximately 2 acres of bare root chestnut tree saplings. I needed to dig over 100 holes on 30' spacings. I bought the 53cc unit with 6" and 10" augers bits. I just dug 50 holes with the 10" bit to a depth of 18" - 24" as I want lots of loose soil for my trees' roots. I was digging in a follow farm field in Michigan so the surface was high weeds/grass that I had mown with a bush hog and the soil is a mixture of clay and topsoil. The hardest part is getting through the grass and roots but once I hit dirt it really augers down rapidly. Each hole was taking about 1 - 1 1/2 minutes depending on the sod cutting and how many rocks I'd find. There's a little bit of a learning curve to get optimum performance but the motor itself has performed flawlessly - starts easily and runs smoothly. The 10" bit is about the max for this 53cc powerhead but definitely is doing the job. While drilling down if the auger bound up or encountered rocks I found that pulling the auger out to clear material and then slowly drilling back down worked well. Even racquetball or baseball sized rocks would cause quite a bit of "jumping" and torquing but once cleared to the surface the auger would dive right down. I didn't use any of the extensions as I only need to drill down about the depth of the bit itself. I have purchased Vevor products in the past and have been satisfied. This auger met and probably exceeded my expectations. It's cheaper than two days of rental. I'm thrilled with how quickly I've been able to dig all these holes! ... show more

  • Awesome tool
Style: 43CC
This worked great . Less $ than renting the same tool for 4 hours ( rental minimum) I did purchase a larger auger . It isn’t “magic” You vacevho pay attention to larger ricks and roots . If you hit a rock … stop! Pull it out then go . For a root use drop when you hit it / you will feel it . Use a sawzall to cut out the root. ... show more

  • Works great. No issues.
Style: 52CC
I was skeptical with the price, but this auger performed great! I was able to dig 12 posts in some pretty hard, clay-like soil. As long as you don’t try to force the auger too much, it doesn’t kick you very much. Easy to assemble and pretty good quality. I’d recommend this to anyone.

  • Dysfunctional tool
Style: 43CC
This belongs on the “Island of Misfit Tools.” If I could select zero stars, I’d prefer that. I bought this after shopping for an auger at my local hardware store, and finding them more expensive than I wanted to spend for fixing my fence. Unlike the typical augers I was seeing at my local hardware store which have the female end of the auger drill assembly as part of the machine, thus allowing you to attach different sized auger drill bits for the hole you need to dig, this machine comes with the male end on the machine and the female end is permanently affixed to the one bit that comes in the box. Which means it’s not just a “one-trick pony” of a tool, but you are not able to change bits at all or use this machine for anything but digging 8” holes, because there is no way to attach other sized bits. The drill bit this auger comes with is 8” diameter. Which would be ideal if my goal was to dig holes big enough for telephone poles—but I simply want to replace a few rotted fence posts. This tool was clearly not manufactured by a person who intends to use it. Waste of time and money. ... show more

  • Overall not bad at all
Style: 52CC
The machine worked well to dig the 4 post holes I needed to replace our fence, thankfully I could get away with saving 16 other posts without replacing them but I’m sure this machine could have easily taken care of the additional holes. The only negatives are that the machine can take you for a ride if you aren’t careful or if you only weigh 145lbs like I do and some of the materials used aren’t the best quality. The machine itself is pretty light but I also sold it after my usage as it’s an awkward machine to have around as it doesn’t stand up or sit down easily in any configuration (augers on or off). I also never used the mixing bottle, 6” auger, or the cheap tool kit but they were nice to have just in case. The machine was easy to setup even with some funky instructions. The throttle trigger is incredibly fragile and designed poorly out of cheap plastic so it can break easily and chock is spelled wrong on the machine but for $169 and after selling it for $120, I really can’t complain at roughly $10 per hole. • My optimism was rewarded by a hidden gem for a low price
Style: 52CC+8"
I’ve used it for about 1 hour total in 3 weeks. This budget auger has plenty of power for hard clay soil! My harbor freight auger got wet and locked up and this replaced it. Much better than the HF brand! Runs slower but the torque is higher IMO. I’d definitely buy it again, because I only need it a few times a year and it does exactly what I need! ... show more

  • Great value and tough tool

I use this thing all week building decks for my business. Even my helpers haven't broke it yet in 2 years. It's a tough machine. We love it

  • Good product but cosmetic defects upon opening
Style: 52CC
This works great but did have pieces broken upon opening. Small plastic components that doesn’t seem to effect functionality but would have obviously preferred it not be damaged.
