Works great out of the box. My old G1100 was aging and having random WIFI issues. I bought that one for around $160 more than a decade ago, so I can't complain as I got plenty of value out of that unit. I researched what the best FIOS router / WIFI unit would be and read lots of comments regarding the latest G8100/8200 being somewhat problematic. I therefore purchased this slightly older model. Swapping out the unit was simple. Performance is excellent and I seem to have the same over all network speed (to be expected), but I have less latency in the wireless. Verizon charges $399 for a new router or they charge you $18 per month. If I only get 5 years out of this replacement unit it will have cost me $20 per year or about $1.66 per month.     • Call Verizon Fios first, it might save you money
This review is just a heads up for people like me who thought they would save money by buying a router on Amazon. I got the router hooked it up, it was a pretty easy setup and worked fine. Then I called Verizon to return the old one. That’s when I discovered Verizon Fios doesn’t charge for a new router or a router rental fee anymore. So I returned this one and Verizon came out and hooked me up with a new router and faster service for less money. Before buying this, my advice is to call Verizon, yes you have to deal with a bot at first, but just keep asking for a representative and you will get a real person. It’s worth a try as it might save you money, which was the whole point in the first place for me. ... show more

I used this item to replace a Verizon G1100 which had poor coverage and speed over the last 7 years. The G3100 works great and the coverage is much better and with greater speed. I used the coaxial cable connection the same as with the G1100. I used the SON (self-organizing-feature) which is standard to automatically choose the channels and bands. It can be shut off through the menu which allows manual configuration but I found my printer on my desktop tied in via USB cable didn't work then through the network so I went back to the SON and all is good. ... show more

A die-hard router until it my water heater decided to take a crap. The original work for many years, and if it wasn't for the water heater, I'm sure it would keep on going. That is why I bought another one, and this time I didn't leave it on the floor.

Came with a power supply that is not Verizon. I had to call Verizon and get a technician out to program my mini’s to pair with it. Working like a champ
