Description

An after-market fence is a fantastic way to ratchet up the performance of a basic table saw, turning it into a precision tool. And this big-capacity Vega system is easy to install and a pleasure to use, with a very agreeable price for passionate woodworkers and do-it-yourselfers. The quality and capabilities of this "utility" model match those of the professional version that Vega’s better known for, and though the company markets it for saws that don’t get "extremely heavy use," it’s absolutely rugged enough for the exacting home woodworker. Hands down, the best feature about this first- class fence is the micro adjustment. We’ve all done it: tap, tap, tap on the fence, hoping for just the breadth of a hair’s change in position. Enjoy that? We don’t either. But this Vega has a threaded rod and thumb nut that moves the fence thousandths of an inch in either direction. A full rotation of the nut carries the fence 1/16th of an inch, and the cam locks the position securely. Another feature we love is the fence bar itself: It’s high, wide and has a channel along its length, perfect for substantial sliding jigs, like, say, a miter spline jig. And while the finish on some of the other parts isn’t as refined as it could be, the fence bar is sweet. It’s made of aircraft quality aluminum alloy extrusions, lightweight for easy handling, but extremely rigid, and we like the way the black anodized finish cuts down on friction. The fence rides beautifully on the rails, and we found lockdown to be rock-solid. Installation wasn’t nearly as complicated as we had anticipated, and it probably won’t take you more than 30 minutes even if you happen to have one of the saws that requires drilling a couple of holes. But if you’ve got a Delta Unisaw or contractor model, a Powermatic 66 or a 10-inch Craftsman, for example, you’ll be ready to roll without the extra drilling. This is the larger of the two models in this line, and you get an impressive 50-inch capacity to the right of the blade and 8 inches to the left. (The smaller version offers 26 inches to the right of the blade.) You could spend a whole lot more money than this on an after-market fence, but the results you’ll get from this Vega will rival any big-ticket fence’s performance, and you’ll depend on it for the ultimate accuracy and reliability.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste From the Manufacturer Upgrade your saw to a precise cutting machine at a reasonable price. It was specially designed to use the existing bolt holes (no drilling required) of Delta Unisaws and Contractors Saws, Powermatic Model 66 and most Sears 10 in. saws. Little accuracy is needed as the fence mounting system allows full adjustment. (Installation may be as little as 15 minutes).

  • Finish issues appear resolved, works well.
I read many of the reviews and was a little worried about so many talking about burrs and poor finish overall. I installed this on a Delta 34-348 older contractors saw with zero issues. Lined up with original holes and the fence slides slick as anything. No sharp spots or burrs, the spacers that I got were aluminum not plastic. I would prefer a more positive lock on the clamp, they say it requires very little pressure to lock it in place but I've found if I dont push down pretty hard small bumps with wood against the fence will move it. Straight fence that was easy to adjust for square and looks really nice. I will be building a router table for the opposite side and really like the 50 version. Very pleased. ... show more

  • hey Vega why cheap out on the finish
I had to wait a long time to save up enough money to justify $400 for offence for an old table saw Actually this fence was three times as much as I paid for my table saw but the good news is it turned old no table saw into a great machine it cuts accurate I can't believe how accurate the cuts now that I have this went on there How smooth it works there's so many good things to say about this fence but I'm just so **** that they just didn't care on using good product to paint the metal the metal around the gage it scratched during installation and I didn't do anything to warrant it being gouged And I think it just got bumped in It scratched the paint red off pretty poor finish for such an expensive product They should be ashamed of the styles for using such poor finished on a great product vega read the other reviews that complain about this and do something about it saving a few pennies on the finish could potentially lose some customers dad someone want to spend $400 on a fence should get something that is prime in and not have to worry about the paint scratching off before they even get to use it be ashamed of yourselves ... show more

  • Love this thing
This is my second Vega fence. My first was my wedding present from my still wife 30 yrs ago. New ( old) saw needed a fence. My old saw was going to a newly wed couple. Bought a new Vega fence without hesitation. Still a great investment.

  • It almost a 10
This is a great option for the price. I have it on a 1960s Craftsman 110 series table saw I rebuilt. Night and day over stock. Pretty straightforward installation with 2 holes drilled on the back of the saw top. Pretty easy drilling. Takes little effort to square up and calibrate. Once it's set up it is extremely easy to use and adjust. I have the same down sides as the reviews I read before I purchased it. Some of the hardware is unfinished black steel which will eventually rust if not oiled regularly or painted before installation and there are sharp edges that need softening so your not getting scratched or cut. The fence top is a cheap piece of formica and is little to be desired. It was chipped out of the box and had to have been when it was assembled in the pIant. I covered mine with a vinyl wrap but a thin plywood invert could be used. The cover just seems cheap and a corner that was cut in design. There were several issues with the paint, missed spots and scratches. Last they used a aluminum tube cut down for the spacers from the fence to the square. They are not fitted and need to be pushed in when setting up so they dont stick out agian just a cheap corner cut type thing. Thay said it works great and has nice features, like the designers took in all the functionality aspects and nailed them and skipped on the finishing aspects. ... show more

  • Everything I was looking for, and a little bit more.
Yesterday the package arrived and this morning I installed the fence. It took me about two hours, but I have some mobility issues and took my time. I also added a bit of extra work for myself while uninstalling the old fence. I was replacing the original Jet fence that came with my Jet JWTS 10JF Table Saw. All pieces shipped as expected, and the build is good. I had no issues with unfinished edges nor other rough spots in the materials. The instruction sheet was clearly written and provided sufficient diagrams and information needed to quickly get the rails mounted to the table saw. No extra holes were needed to fit the rails to the table saw, and the leveling bolts helped quickly get the rails adjusted to the proper height. The fit of all the pieces was nicely done for a “utility” model, and the plates provided to support a table extension weren’t needed, but are a nice add for those who might need such an extension. Adjusting the fence to be in parallel to the blade was very easy; just slide the side of the fence to one of. The mitre gauge slots, bring the fence in alignment with the slot, and tighten the four bolts to secure the fence in that position. The feel of the rails is very solid. The movement of the fence along the rails very smooth. The micro adjust function works as expected, and. There was a minimal amount of adjustment needed on the gauge that marks the position of the fence in relation to the blade of the saw. I am very satisfied with the installation ease and the functionality this will add to my table saw. The new fence is more stable than the old, and has a better overall fit. I am looking forward to many years of use from this new fence. ... show more
