Great product. Here are tips: Ensure cans are adequately brought to temp. I warmed them up to 85 degrees overnight. Tricky but it's worth the effort. Ensure surface temp of substrate is over 70 degrees. Doesnt stick to cool surfaces very well. Shake them by duct taping to a sawzall. This increased the performance of the spray by 30% (at least). Sawzall method gave me a smooth, even distribution, and 85% of the can made it to the ceiling. Hand shaking DOES NOT come close to the performance of a sawzall. PRACTICE on the wall but do ceiling first. Use last bit of can that doesnt have pressure for a fan type spray - on the walls. Do thin layers, reapply each layer after 1 hour when fully expanded. Take your time. If you rush it, you will have an uneven thermal barrier. Do cracks and crevices FIRST. Seriously, they're much harder to get if you do this "as you go" or save it for last. Have a nice amount of acetone on standby and order extra cans of gun cleaner. Clean out gun with gun cleaner every 5 or 6 cans. COVER YOUR FLOORS!!! My review: Great product. Nice learning curve. Super messy! I had fun with this project. After 20-25 cans I realized the gun had more than just a clog, no matter what I did I could not get a good spray. I disassembled the gun and noticed some grime built up on the needle, so I soaked the parts in acetone overnight, and cleaned them well the next morning under tap water. Re-assembled gun, and it worked fine after some fidgiting. I got the Great Stuff brand gun as I waited for the room to heat up on day #2 just in case I could not get the Vega Bond gun to work again, and the Great Stuff gun did not have the attachments for fan spray or ceiling so I ended up putting more elbow grease into the Vega Bond gun and got it to work again. I ran out of Vega Bond with maybe 10 feet left, so I went back to Ace Hardware and got the Great Stuff foam, its was garbage. Minimal adhesion, terrible flow, just all around - a big waste of money. Though I will save this and do crack and crevice with it after I get the next round of Vega Bond to finish the project. I ordered about 10-15% more than I needed, but I ended up building out walls more than necessary as I could not get an entire can to go on the ceiling, only the first 60-75% - and I put the remaining foam on the walls. I applied maybe 600 board feet before I figured out the tricks, the first 600 looked like crap but it is going to do it's job. Already, the room is much better insulated that it was before I tore the drywall and insulation out. Not gonna take pics of my handy work, but the last few hundred feet looked pretty good. It takes a lot of patients, and a lot of thin (dry) layers of build up for a nice even coat. Areas where I went fast didnt have great expansion, areas where I took my time- expanded extremely well. Better than I would have expected. Wish I could do it over again, i'd have had plenty left over. I thought I ordered about 10-15% extra, but I easily wasted that just learning. I'd recommend ordering 25% more than needed - maybe more if it's your first go at this stuff. All in all- this was a very fun project. I highly recommend it. Learning curve wasnt toobad. Trying to rush through it was where my mistakes were made. ... show more
