  • Don't take this casually, but it is definitely a serious diy-er capable material.
I'm using this foam to insulate a 10x20 art studio. This is in the neighborhood of 750 square feet to insulate, after openings are subtracted out. I bought a can to learn the gun, how to spray foam and what kind of coverage I can expect with me spraying. I bought a second can to focus on other technique issues. None of this was wasted, as it went onto my walls and roof. It was probably 50% efficiency though. If I spray a pattern of about 1/4 to 1/2" thickness, straight out of the gun. A second coat after a half to one hour seems to get me my target of 2" final insulation thickness. Go online and learn about the gun. I saw a fine home building video that I would rate 5 stars. The product information is plenty good, but don't cut corners. Essentially, adjust the gun down to where the trigger doesn't move, closed, and start with 1 full turn. I may have been running just fine in the 2-3 turns range. I bought a different brand of gun than comes with the Kraken kit. The kraken cleaner is magic- on uncurled foam. Shoot the outside of the gun and load a can of cleaner on the gun and shoot a bit through the gun. The directions are good. Again, don't cut corners. I like the air rightness of foam insulation. We live in a small town, west of Seattle and fiberglass batt insulation seems to be about 50% mare than I think I'll have in foam insulation. As far as the advertised- 20 sq ft per can, I feel like that what I'm getting. I'm sure that by the 3rd project I insulate, I'll have a pretty good program going. Preparation to spray is big. Every hole needs to be closed, even duct taps would seem to do fine. Don't try to spray across and bridge a 1" opening. Even 1/4" openings will have a foam eruption out of it. That is where I'm drawing the line though. I'm shooting both sides of any gap and the foam closes small gaps upon expansion. As far as PPE, the full face respirator, with a disposable face shield, gloves and a ghost buster suit- and not your favorite shoes. I really didn't get and overspray... but I'm still suiting up, especially the respirator. Have your work platforms all figured out. If you're doing a bunch of wall/ceiling, a spray gun (like a paint gun, filled with water may be far easier than a hardware store squirt bottle- figure 20+ quirts in each stud bay). The substrate does not want to be soaking, just moistened. All in all, I'm liking the foam, there is technique and insight needed in the material application. Take it seriously, do some homework and plan on improving performance after a few cans. ... show more

  • Spray foam
Personally I think it’s horribly overpriced. It does go on easily. But it should be about a 100 doper 12 cans.

  • It's expensive if you have to buy a new gun each use...Jeez
I wish I could use the spray gun and foam in a proper fashion so as to NOT get a clogged gun AND oozing black foam. I have never been able to reuse but it works great when it's working.
