  • Did the Job
Size: 12 Pack Style: Insulation Foam Set
I bought the 12 pack. Wanted to get a basic coating on the ceiling of my cabin's Gambrel (like a barn) roof. Cabin is 10' by 24' and the roof is about 374 square feet. I was only going for one coating, and it almost did it. I probably need two more cans to finish the coverage. Gambrel roofs are slanted, so the ceiling nozzle worked for me. Couldn't have done it with the nozzle made for walls. I was careful to not let the cans freeze while I had them, I kept them warm, and shook them all ahead of time, so that I could go from one can to the next quickly without needing to clean the nozzle until I'd used all the cans. It worked, but I had to prep everything carefully in advance so I could keep moving. Don't skimp on the preparation. Especially if you're doing a ceiling, it will be messy. Whatever's not covered will get stuff on it. I was dumb enough to not wear something over my hair, and had to use the solvent cleaner in my hair to get the stuff out. Also, even though the spray doesn't have a terrible smell, I was also foolish to not use the included mask over my mouth and nose. The stuff doesn't taste good or smell great when it's inhaled, and you will inhale it, especially for roof work. Glad I used old shoes, the cover suit and the gloves that were included. The stuff sprayed on well with no problems. It wasn't super easy to do it right, but easy enough for your basic weekend warrior. I sprayed the entire ceiling down with water in a spray bottle in advanced, as recommeded. Only one small section of the ceiling peeled away after spraying, like a 2' by 9" section. Everything worked as noted in the Youtube videos I watched. It will make a difference in keeping my little cabin warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, and was worth the money, even for just one coating. I'm hoping it will also seal out some of the bugs that make their way in every summer. Pretty happy with the overall effect. Not cheap, but much cheaper than other options. Would buy again, and will probably buy two more cans to finish up a couple areas. The spray gun and the cleaner that comes with it is good quality. Be sure to clean up the gun afterwards, it could last for a long time. ... show more

  • Don't take this casually, but it is definitely a serious diy-er capable material.
Size: 1 Pack Style: Foam Cleaner
I'm using this foam to insulate a 10x20 art studio. This is in the neighborhood of 750 square feet to insulate, after openings are subtracted out. I bought a can to learn the gun, how to spray foam and what kind of coverage I can expect with me spraying. I bought a second can to focus on other technique issues. None of this was wasted, as it went onto my walls and roof. It was probably 50% efficiency though. If I spray a pattern of about 1/4 to 1/2" thickness, straight out of the gun. A second coat after a half to one hour seems to get me my target of 2" final insulation thickness. Go online and learn about the gun. I saw a fine home building video that I would rate 5 stars. The product information is plenty good, but don't cut corners. Essentially, adjust the gun down to where the trigger doesn't move, closed, and start with 1 full turn. I may have been running just fine in the 2-3 turns range. I bought a different brand of gun than comes with the Kraken kit. The kraken cleaner is magic- on uncurled foam. Shoot the outside of the gun and load a can of cleaner on the gun and shoot a bit through the gun. The directions are good. Again, don't cut corners. I like the air rightness of foam insulation. We live in a small town, west of Seattle and fiberglass batt insulation seems to be about 50% mare than I think I'll have in foam insulation. As far as the advertised- 20 sq ft per can, I feel like that what I'm getting. I'm sure that by the 3rd project I insulate, I'll have a pretty good program going. Preparation to spray is big. Every hole needs to be closed, even duct taps would seem to do fine. Don't try to spray across and bridge a 1" opening. Even 1/4" openings will have a foam eruption out of it. That is where I'm drawing the line though. I'm shooting both sides of any gap and the foam closes small gaps upon expansion. As far as PPE, the full face respirator, with a disposable face shield, gloves and a ghost buster suit- and not your favorite shoes. I really didn't get and overspray... but I'm still suiting up, especially the respirator. Have your work platforms all figured out. If you're doing a bunch of wall/ceiling, a spray gun (like a paint gun, filled with water may be far easier than a hardware store squirt bottle- figure 20+ quirts in each stud bay). The substrate does not want to be soaking, just moistened. All in all, I'm liking the foam, there is technique and insight needed in the material application. Take it seriously, do some homework and plan on improving performance after a few cans. ... show more

  • Works as advertised.
Size: 12 Pack Style: Insulation Foam Set
Worked well, except it areas with low head room. Foam canister is tall and must be held upright to apply. The 2 different spray tips help with spraying accuracy, but it takes a few tries to get the hang of it. Definitely use protective/ throw away clothing. This stuff sticks to skin like glue!

  • Easy to use great product.
Size: 18 Pack Style: Insulation Foam Set
I was pleasantly surprised at how well this kit worked out. I am a semi-retired builder working on a small addition/remodel. Like anything else you try for the first time, it takes a little practice to get where you're applying it pretty evenly. I wanted 2" in the wall cavities, so by the time I was done with the 2nd coat, it didn't look too bad. I had about 300 bd. ft. to cover @ 2", so yeah, they might be a little optimistic on their coverage claims, but this stuff hardly goes on nice and flat, so make sure you allow for a little extra when figuring what you need. With the 18 can kit, you get 2 cans of foam cleaner, and I hardly even used any of the first can. The gun sprays clean in seconds, and spraying a little cleaner on a paper towel worked quickly to wipe off any foam on the outside surface of the gun. There was not a lot of odor or fumes with the product, which was nice, as this was on a remodel in an enclosed space.. Any overspray on the studs, etc. was easily peeled off with a 3" scraper at the end of the day. The fact that this foam is fire rated is an extra bonus. I would highly recommend this product. ... show more
