  • Vaultek- Safe & Secure!
Style: VE20 (Compact Safe)
Waited almost 2 months to give myself adequate time to use the safe before leaving a review. Purchased the VT20 Series Essential safe for my handguns and more importantly to keep them secure from others in my home. Opted not to purchase the biometric and bluetooth model only as I wanted to keep it simple plus save a few bucks. Summary: First I want to state that the quality and structure of the safe serves & fits it's purpose. Is it going to be bullet proof or impossible for the bad guys to break into or easily grab your safe with contents if your home is broken into? The answer is probably! If you're looking for that heavy duty fort knox bullet proof safe option than none of these type of safe security options including all the other manufacturers will satisfy your needs. Review: So far no issues to report after nearly almost 2 months of use. I'll randomly check battery levels and so far still at full strength. No issues whatsoever with keypad lighting pads and door quickly opens using my stored code, zero malfunctions. I like how the keypad lights upon your hand getting close to the keypad, input code and click the top door or lid opens. My only gripe is the lid opens to quickly with enough force to move the safe a bit. Might be a future enhancement but not a deal breaker. The brightness of the interior lighting assists with viewing your stored content. Wish they would position the lightning in each corner or include lights in both the top and bottom or left and right inner panel areas. When my handguns are placed in the safe the majority of the light can be easily blocked but still able to view contents in a dark environment. I'm currently storing my Glock 19 and Glock 26 with 1 extra mag for each handgun. It's a perfect fit with no issues closing the safe lid. My Vaultek came in black with the red branded logo where I also see other models in gray with silver logo, not sure if this is an older generation product (different features or design?) but not a huge issue if it's only cosmetic or appearance related. The interior is well padded and the included cable is long enough to serve it's purpose in my home. I may move this to my nightstand in the future and look into the MX series next since I plan on purchasing a few more handguns in the upcoming months. Overall a sturdy, good looking and reliable product and I will recommend Vaultek products to others! ... show more

  • Modern, sturdy mid size safe.
Style: MXE (High Capacity Safe)
Purchased the MXE model because I was thinking long term ownership and in general electronics do not age well so the extra frills like biometric scanner and WiFi access didn’t appeal to me. I was also uncomfortable with remote accessibility with children. The safe feels sturdy and secure. Key pad is simplistic and programming was quick and easy. I do wish they had added a numerical 0 and 9 to the keypad rather than just 1-8. I really like how modern and well thought out the safe is. Little details such as an internal led light,a backlight entry keypad, and the variety of snap in holders place it above other basic safes. What was the biggest selling factor for me was the size of this safe. When I was doing my original research there weren’t many options in size that was in-between a small nightstand safe and a big rifle cabinet. This is the perfect middle of the road size for a closet or under the desk set up. All my pistols fit inside despite my S&W 686 being too long if you try to place it in one of the universal snap in holders.I have to prop it up against the back all of the safe and the side of the holder or lay it down. The removable sliding tray is a nice feature for little things like boxes of ammo or magazines. Only drawback to the tray is the fact that the program button is exposed without a guard right above the middle of the tray . I constantly swipe the program button with a box of ammo I have stored on the shelf whenever I slide the tray out. Battery life seems good. I’ve had it for about a month and still haven’t dipped below 77% but I also don’t access the safe daily or frequently so some can argue that is a quick drain for such low usage. I think the MXE model is about $100-150 overpriced especially since it has none of the features like WiFi connectivity, biometric scanning, remote quick access, fireproof ratings, or waterproof ratings. It seems like a sturdy and reliable safe so it was worth the money despite the premium cost. ... show more

  • Easy to program, mount, and use. Well-written instruction manual.
Style: SE20 (Slider Safe)
I purchased this safe after first trying a less expensive brand of the same style of safe that was of pretty low quality. The less expensive brand drained its four AAA batteries very quickly, the biometric scanner was too unreliable to use, and the drawer wasn't strong enough to fully open with an all-steel government 1911 in it. I like the simplicity of this Vaultek, as I don't need a biometric scanner, wi-fi, or bluetooth. It comes with a well-written instruction manual, and is easy to program, mount, and use. I do like that it has a proximity sensor that lights up the keypad when you get your hand close, which the other safe didn't have. I also like that it comes with what Vaultek says is a four-month rechargeable battery that you don't have to remove from the safe to recharge; just use the plug at the back of the safe. Vaultek says that this one is large enough to hold a full-size 1911, which it is and the drawer is strong enough to fully open. However, if your 1911 has a flared magwell and a bump pad on the magazine, it won't fit. Another reviewer said that he just takes his magazine out and stores it separately in the safe, and indeed my government 1911 with the flared magwell and no magazine does fit. All my government 1911s have flared magwells and bump pads on their magazines, so I might have been inclined to give it four stars. However, I have a commander-sized bobtail 1911 with a flush-fit magazine, so I just put that one in this safe with plenty of room that makes it easy to remove. I don't really care much which 1911 goes in this safe and which ones go in the closet safe; but I guess it would be nice if this safe was just a bit larger to fit all my 1911s. Overall though I'm very pleased and I give it five stars! ... show more
