We bought one of these for our armed security guard to use at our business. They don’t always store their firearm in it, but it’s convenient if they do have a need to. Installation was very easy and all of the mounting hardware necessary came with it. The safe will hold a full size handgun, including a Sig 320 with a 17 round mag but the 21 round mag will not fit. As far as access, it’s very easy with either the button combination or key. The weight of the handgun causes it to drop for quick access. Thankfully, our security guard hasn’t needed it, but it’s reassuring to have it. I would imagine that this would also work well attached to a bed frame or night stand. ... show more

    • The Bracket is Flimsy - Otherwise it's an OK Safe

Pro - If you carefully read the instructions, It is pretty easy to program but you really have to pay close attention to every step in the instructions. Con - It clearly states that you can program the PIN using 3-6 key presses but that is absolutely false. I tried for over an hour, reading the instructions over and over and could only enter 4. To be fair, I was missing a step from the very start but once I figured that out, I still couldn't enter more than four digits. In retrospect, I think four key presses are the limit for me. I had jotted down the sequence in the instruction book and stored it in my office. Later I wanted to check my gun's s/n and could not for the life of me remember the sequence. I thought about it for a while (after going through the lockout timer a few times) not wanting to walk 10 feet to my office to look it up. It came to me and now I practice it once a week. Con: for such a sturdy safe, it has a ridiculously flimsy mounting bracket. The safe will swing left to right while you punch in the code. (I use the bracket in the 12 o'clock position under my nightstand (no drawers just legs) and it swings with the slightest touch of the keypad. I have dreams of having a stronger bracket made possibly with an inverted U shape to bolt to both sides of the safe but who has time for that. It will probably cost more than the safe to take the project to a welding shop and I have yet to pull the trigger (pun intended) on a welder of my own to do this type of small project around my house. A determined ne'er-do-well could get the bracket off of the nightstand by fatiguing the bracket steel the old fashioned way by swinging the safe left to right enough times to snap it off. My take is that, for now, I am following the safe storage law and keeping any young visitors to my house safe, (not that I have any but their may eventually be grandkids.) It works good enough for now and may eventually 'force' me to buy a welder. ... show more

Tried a different version and you couldn’t turn off the beeping buttons. Don’t really want the whole house and the bad guys to know every time I’m grabbing a gun! This one is much better, works great and you can silence the beeping.

    • Simple yet secure way to lock up a hand gun

Arrived quickly (less than 12 hrs). Boxed well. Instructions were clear. Battery compartment a little difficult to access, easier if the bump stop is removed allowing the drawer to open fully. The bump stop must also be removed to access the internal mounting thumb screws that secure the safe to the bracket. Mounting the bracket was pretty easy with the 4 supplied wood screws. Only difficult parts of mounting was marking the location for the bracket for my application because I had to hold the safe up hanging on the bracket to get proper spacing, and then remove the safe leaving the bracket in place. Did NOT get the finger print model. Programming the 3-6 digit code and silencing the "beep" was pretty straight forward with the directions. So far so good, owed for about 3 hrs now ... show more
