I wasn't sure what type of safe to purchase...one like this one or a much heavier safe that someone would have needed to deliver and install. I'm glad I chose this one. This is perfect for a small place such as an apartment or keeping in a man cave. It has some weight to it so even if someone did want to walk off with it they couldn't without some type of fore knowledge of the safe and a plan. Especially if you mount it to the wall like I did. This thing is going no where unless they cut out the wall to go with it. It is top heavy so securing to the wall is a good idea. The finger print reader was very easy to set up as well as entering a code. You can turn the sound off by entering 3 then enter on the face of the dial. I have had this safe for almost one month now and have not had to setup the finger print reader or a new code since first installation. The finger print reader has been flawless reading my thumb very quickly and the first time every time. I took a little advise from other reviewers and added motion sensing lights to the inside. They are magnetic so no worries about using double sided tape or anything similar. They light up the safe and the little cabinet at the top very well. The safe arrived in only a few days after ordering it. I wasn't expecting it for another week when it was dropped off at my front door. There was slight damage to the box due to shipping. I thought it was normal due to the weight involved. Thanks to really good packing, there was no damage to the safe, not even a scratch. The price was good and customer support was fantastic. I received a card with the safe to email them and they sent me the door organizer for free just for contacting them. I now have multiple long guns and hand guns plus magazines nice and organized in one place. I have showed a couple of friends who were impressed with the design and quality of this safe. If you don't want to fork out a bunch of money for a very heavy safe that someone needs to use a machine to install, then look no further than this one. If you live in an apartment or need something smaller for a bedroom or man cave, this is the safe to get.

It's easy to assemble and operate. You just pop in the batteries, reset the code, scan some fingers and you're in business. It also comes with a back up battery pack that can be used to power the biometric locking panel from the outside. That's a thoughtful touch for when/if the installed batteries die. This safe fits in my bedroom closet and holds scoped long guns comfortably. I use the lock box on the top to secure my ammo, ear, and eye protection. The door panel organizer is something that you have ask for separately. AND it's free. I have to say that this addition made this safe a complete answer for my needs. It securely connects to the door and has 3 hand gun slots, 3 magazine slots, a medium pouch, and a large pouch I use for manuals and documents. The middle hand gun slot is removable, so you should have no problem if you have 2 handguns with long barrels. If you haven’t guessed, I'm pleased with my purchase.

PROS: - Good pricepoint - Good Fit & Finish (metal working) - Sturdy firearm safe-cabinet hybrid - Flexibility to increase security & sturdiness - Customer service (so far) CONS: - Delivery timing notification (more detail below) - Paint-coating (more below) - Instructions Out of the box and installed the Moutec Large Biometric Rifle Safe, New and Improved Fingerprint Long Gun Safe for 5-7 Rifle Shotgun for Home, Quick Access Gun Storage Cabinet is a very good alternative to high-end safes and lower-end gun cabinets with very good theft deterence options. PRICE - When you compared to the costs and features of low-end cabinents versus safes, the Moutec's price-point as a safe-cabinet hybrid is reasonable. BUILD - The Moutec is essentially a 14 guage steel box with a much heavier door that has 5 bolts (1 top, 3 left, 1 bottom) with 2 hinges on the right. The door is slightly recessed (a nice security feature) and the Moutec is HEAVY at 108 LBS empty. MOUNTING the Moutec is ESSENTIAL as the stout, heavy door, when open, will tip the Moutec over. In general the metal working fit and finish is quite good BUT the paint application on my Moutec has a few problems on the inside back wall at center and on the outside left wall towards top. Given my Moutec is not sitting in the open and it's in a dry place I'm ok with this. This does not appear to be a general problem in reviews but is a quality control miss. SECURITY-STURDINESS-FLEXIBILITY - The Moutec provides alot of flexibility for mounting and how it's mounted can increase its sturdiness and security. The lag bolts (included), mounted into the 3 rear wall holes are a "safety minimum" for tipping over. But the difference between having drywall ripped out or not will be if you mount to cement and/or to a stud. In my case I drilled a 4th back wall hole higher up just below the security lock box and went with 4 - 2x4s between the studs, using 3" deck hex screws for the studs, 2.5" for the Moutec wall holes (including washer &lock-washer). A 5th 2x4 was used right at the top to prevent any finger-hold leverage for pulling on the Moutec. The 2x4s also allowed a base board to be cleared. In additon with 2 - 2.5" through the floor holes the 108LB Moutec is not going anywhere fast. CUSTOMER SERVICE has so far been responsive and reasonable for US onshore timezones. The webite looks mainland China based so registering to extend your warranty from 1-3 years will have a different look and feel and may leave you asking questions if your warranty has been submitted-registered. INSTRUCTIONS - My instructions are missing some steps for doing the initial re-set of the lock codes. MAKE SURE to register fingerprints as any fingerprint will initially open the safe until you do. Also when code, fingerprint or key has "unlocked" the Moutec, then turn the lock's "outer-dial" 30 degrees and then the lock handle 45 degrees. Reverse steps to close. The numbers appear reversed in my instructions. With a little experimentation it was not hard to figure out and and write down corrections in the instructions. Customer service and "online videos" may be quicker, if questions. DELIVERY - My safe came 2 days early without notification and was sitting in the driveway with "rifle safe" on the box as the neighborhood drove by. No one is looking to advertise firearm storage at their house so this is a customer service and security miss. Otherwise the Moutec came well packaged in carboard, bublewrap and foam materials. The box was punctured in one place but there was no damage to the Moutec. SUMMARY - If you're a 1st time gun owner or getting back into shooting sports this is a very good starting point for securing your firearms. All gun storage including the Moutec has "less" storage space than expected (read outer/inner dimensions) and the foam rests included with the Moutec do not optimize space. For ideas to "maximize" Moutec storage space read Moutec reviews and do some Amazon surfing. The Moutec is a solid 4+ star rating for hybrid safe-cabinet firearm storage out of the box and installed. This review will be updated for any material positive/negative changes in the Moutec's performance.

Overall we are very happy with this safe. The fingerprint scanner was easy to program and so far has worked perfectly. I like that the code can be up to 8 digits long making it more complex to determine. The backup keyed entry is a perfect finish to make sure access can be obtained if the batteries die or the code is forgotten. Inside it has room for a number of long guns though if they are scoped it makes it challenging to fit more than a few. I have no issue with the height with any of our long guns. I really like the internal lockbox for additional items and was surprised by how much room it has. I have ordered the door organizer from the company and look forward to adding it. The only negatives I found were that the door is by far the heaviest part and it will fall forward when opening if not secured to the wall or floor. Mounting hardware included was only expansion bolts which don't work for drywall, but a couple construction screws and washers into the studs and it's just fine. The wall and back thickness were not significantly thick, though I knew this when ordering...if you want thicker it will cost you. If you are looking to store a few guns safely in a small space with relatively easy access this is a great purchase. If you register the product the customer service is excellent!

After a lot of research, high and low, I settled on the newer Moutec biometric safe to house my (1) long gun, ammo, accessories and pistol. This was an excellent choice. I did not want a professional safe to house my small collection, however needed to at least deter theft. Much heavier and beefier than I expected. Although I did just eat a cheese steak prior getting this into my house in a dolly, so...Fingerprint scanner was easy to set up, as was changing the numeric code straight away. Mine came with the foam barrel rests, but others looked like they got the plastic rest. At least you can cut the foam if needed, so I’m glad I got that. The lockable shelf is small but useful. I was able to fit all of my JHP in that for extra safekeeping. I added two motion sensor LED lights and a magnetic pistol holder under the shelf ledge. Sometimes I need to scan my finger twice—the unit will beep once and turn green but the lock won’t open. I suspect that I need to add more angles of my single print into the database to stop this from happening. Overall, a fantastic safe, and a great value as a first starter safe. While it does not have a fire or water rating, the range of opening options, the large open space and the lockable interior area more than makes up for it. Thumbs up!

This product came very well packed, with all edges and corners adequately protected - there was no damage anywhere. I thought the instructions were accurate and pretty easy to follow, and it didn't take much time until I had entered several of my fingerprints and the digital combination. The quality of the keyed locks is good, and the ease of unlocking and locking with the digital combination and my fingerprints is quick and easy. Overall the quality of this safe is good. As the instructions indicate, it's necessary to fasten it to the floor or wall in order to keep it stable - this is because the door is heavy, which I like. My wall studs were in the wrong place, and so I needed to drill some additional holes in the back, and I used 3/8" lag screws to mount it to the wall. It is now VERY stable. I very much like having the emergency power pack to plug into the front in the event that the batteries inside run out. Unlike what some other reviewers suggested, I found that the beeping can be completely turned off just by following the instructions that came with the safe - it does not turn the sound back on until you reactivate it with the same key sequence. I registered the safe to extend the warranty from 1 year to 3 years. As the other reviews indicated, you can contact customer service by email and they will send you an organizer for the inside of the door. I contacted them by email soon after I registered, and they responded by email the next day. I got the door organizer surprisingly quickly. This is very good customer service. BTW, the quality of the door organizer is very good, and it mounts securely to the inside of the door easily without any tools. While I thought the price of the safe was somewhat high, an exactly matching door organizer is currently running $40-47 on Amazon. This makes the safe a better value, but I still think the price is a little high. However, I'm very happy with this product and I recommend it.

We have had many issues with this safe since we purchased it. The lock and/or the main door will get jammed fairly often. It has actually rarely been easy to open and has often been hard to lock. The keypad also seems to glitch or not perform well about half the time. We have to just pause and start over many times. Would not recommend. When it's locked, it's definitely locked, so that's good. However, it's a pain to use, and you would not be able to open it quickly in an emergency.

To preface this product review, I'd like to make clear two critical admissions for your consideration: 1) I'm a new gun user with less than a few hours of training with live ammo and well under 100 hours of dry firing practice; currently, I simply own a single long rifle and two handguns. 2) I was offered, and I accepted, a free door panel organizer from Moutec's gun safe service team (which I've not yet installed at the time of this writing because of laziness). I wasn't required to write a review (let alone a positive one) for this, but I did so anyway purely out of friendly reciprocation and not because I was obligated to. Nevertheless, take my word with a grain of salt if you will and take heed only if they make sense to you. Simply put, I purchased this long rifle safe as a starter for the due diligence that comes with owning and operating my first rifle, a budget-friendly PA-15. Going along with this mindset of being a responsible, budget-conscious gun owner, I knew exactly what I wanted while doing my initial cursory research on long gun safes: Under 500 USD, very tight space constraints (as you can see from my pics), and REASONABLY secure. After a few hours of light analysis and deliberation, my decision came down to either of Moutec's long rifle safes, with or without the biometric scanner; I opted for the former only because the final cost difference became negligible after taxes and shipping fees. In the end, I got exactly what I wanted while being roughly 20% under my budget. Suffice to say, I am quite satisfied, and here's why. Having been dropped off at the front of my garage, fully assembled, this 100+ lb Moutec safe was more than a chore to haul into my room; which gave me confidence that a prospective thief would have a similarly difficult time trying to lug it out, failing to crack what I presume to be a decent lock (to anyone that doesn't already specialize in breaking locks anyway). The safe fits my exacting space requirements and it simply needs to be bolted to the wall to prevent tipping over, as the majority of the overall weight comes from the sturdy door. The insides are pretty self-explanatory from the pictures and it benefits greatly from installing a cheap LED motion sensor cabinet light you can easily search for online. For the price that I paid for Moutec's long rifle safe I got exactly what I was looking for: A compact safe that strongly deters both lock picking and forcible entry/carrying away at what I consider to be a reasonable price. Obviously, there are other good alternatives out there, but I'd be surprised if I missed something CONSIDERABLY better in the 500 or under range. If most of my talking points make sense and you happen to agree with them, then go ahead and buy this safe with confidence, the same level of confidence I now have with securing my first long rifle.
