  • Be sure to go completely through setup after making a change or it won't operate.
I now have had four different machines two of which including this have are or were commercial grade units. I love to cook more than my wife and I can eat at one sitting; so I vac pack all my leftovers. I use both light weight 3 mil and 4 ml thick bags, Smooth and dimpled for cooking in hot water and microwave ovens or freezing. My last unit was a VacMaster V220 lasted four years but had to replace a lot of parts during that time. Unit no longer could be repaired as parts became unavailable. Looked hard for a different supplier as much for serviceability and support reviews and selected this unit. The cost was almost twice what I was going to pay to get another V220 so it was a tough decision. I am very glad I made the choice to switch in spite of the higher cost as I feel it was worth the cost. While I have had it only for four days I really put it through a test and have to say it has worked better than i expected. The unit is very easy to use much quieter than previous units. Seals all my bags with solid and liquid contents. Freezes well and when heating the liquid within the bag the seal remains intact. My only complaint which is not the fault of the manufacturer is my larger (12 inch bags do not fit) tossed over three hundred away which shows how much I intend to keep this unit. CONS: As far as a con which may seem really dumb to most people is a complaint that the manual on page 3 operating instructions does not state you must go completely through the setup commands to be able to seal a bag. Plenty of oil provided in package but no label on "container" to show oil type and if oil is food grade and thus allowable in commercial kitchens and food processing facilities. Oil used is HFV-32 per the manual. The MSD for this oil can be found by doing a search for the information if required to keep on hand. NOTE: Anyone using this unit or other similar equipment; and storing the oil in a restaurant and or commercial kitchen or food processing facility should maintain a copy of the MSD and review it as well as maintain a copy of the MSD on premises. I have the unit installed on a Amazon purchased: H Wilson STC21-B STC Series 18 x 24 Inch 2-Shelf Utility Cart, Luxor/H.Wilson. It handles the weight and fits perfectly on the top with a lower shelf to hold the bags I commonly use. Wheels are 4 inch so this really helps with the weight. Bags Tested Pint Vacuum Sealer Storage Bags 6 x 10 Inch Size for Food Saver, Seal a Meal Sealers, BPA Free, Heavy Duty Commercial Grade, Sous Vide 4 mil amazon Quart Vacuum Sealer Bags Size 8" x 12" for Food Saver, Seal a Meal Type Vac Sealers, Sous Vide Vaccum Safe, BPA Free, Heavy Duty Commercial Grade 4 mil amazon VacMaster 30723 10" x 10" Chamber Vacuum Packaging Pouches / Bags 3 Mil Amazon VacMaster 30610 6" x 10" Chamber Vacuum Packaging Pouches / Bags 3 Mil Amazon Sous Vide bags tested with boiling water reduced to 170 F for sealing with liquid. Vac Master non Sous Vide bags tested by filling with water and applying pressure to bag in attempt to check for leaks. All bags sealed properly with good visual indication on bag of seal area. Used initial recommendations for settings. Packed chopped onions, celery and green peppers reduced vac time to 15 to maintain vegetable liquid integrity no problems indicated. Packed Seafood Chowder containing liquid and solids (no bones) at 130 F and 110 F contents reduced time to 12 at 130 liquid boiled under vac still sealed and froze well. Steam collected in chamber removed and packed at lower temp. Recommend letting contents cool below one 110 f to keep moisture out of oil in vac pump. Packed direct from commercial gallon cans of both Sausage Gravy and Nacho Cheese in small bags at room temperature to freeze for smaller portions. RESULTS: All bags sealed no visible leaks detected. NOTE: I am not in anyway connected to the manufacturer or Amazon to provide these tests and report on them. I did them out of my desperate need to insure safe storage of left overs and purchase of large portion cans through a warehouse store near me. I am an retired engineer who has a fetish for testing those things I count on to keep me from getting sick. I have spoken to the supplier like other reviewers have noted the owner responds very quickly. For a digital copy of their manual email the manufacture for a copy and he will send a PDF Last comment even though I just received and tested this based on the results and bad experiences with other equipment of this type I gave it five stars and would recommend it to friends and family. That is how good it appears to be. ... show more

  • Solid vacuum sealer, but documentation/manual needs improvement.
I use a vacuum sealer a lot for sous vide cooking and for preparing food for freezer storage. I bought this unit to replace another chamber vacuum sealer that failed. This unit seems solidly built, and I expect that it will prove reliable. My only complaint is that the accompanying manual needs improvement. I knew this unit required oil to be filled before use. The instructions were barely adequate. The instructions indicate that the back panel should be removed to access the pump. This is easy, In fact a Phillips screwdriver is included in the package for this purpose. The pump was easy to find. The first step is to remove the cover on the pump by unscrewing it. The next step in the instructions is to remove a "sliver metallic unit" part and to set it aside. The only thing visible after removing the pump's cover is a cylindrical air filter. It was easy enough to remove, but I wouldn't describe it in this way. A couple of photographs would have been helpful. The next step is to "pour in your oil." The oil comes in a bottle with a curved spout. It was clear that I had to snip off the end of the spout, stick the spout into the opening exposed by removing the filter, and squeeze or pour in the oil. There was plenty of oil left over. It would be helpful to provide a cap to cover the end of the spout for storage. No problems filling the oil to the required level or reassembling everything. I plugged the unit in and found something I wanted to vacuum pack to test this out. I tried to follow the instructions. I turned on the power switch on the rear of the unit. I then pressed "Set" on the front panel. Nothing happened. In fact, the front panel did not seem to work at all. Before I called for support, I unlatched and opened the lid over the vacuum chamber. When I did that, the front panel became active, and I was able to operate the unit. I used the recommended starting settings -- 45 seconds vacuum, 2 seconds seal, 2 seconds cool down, and medium sealer temperature. This worked except that the bag stuck a bit to the sealing bar, so when the lid came up, the sealing bar was pulled out of position. Reducing the sealing temperature to low solved this problem. The sealer starts when you close the lid, so I cut off the power switch on the rear after I was through. The next time I wanted to use the unit, I unlatched the lid and cut on the power switch. I pressed set to see if my settings were still present (they were). However, at the point where I expected to see "Ed" on the display (that seems to indicate that it is ready to seal), it returned to the vacuum time setting and displayed "--". After moving through the sequence again and closing and re-opening the lid, all to no effect, I tried pressing the "Stop" button. That caused the display to return to "Ed", and the unit now worked as expected. It seems that there is a fairly specific sequence that must be followed to use the sealer. Once it is in the correct "state," it is fast and easy to process and seal packages quickly and efficiently. To summarize: 1) I am pleased with the purchase, and I would make the same decision again. 2) The accompanying documentation can be improved a lot. 3) Since the unit should be switched off when not being used, it would be more convenient to move the power switch to the front control panel. ... show more
