We wanted a radiant barrier type of insulation rather than foam. Much more efficient and looks better. We completed the installation, with my wife helping, in about 5 hours. Easy to follow instructions and included everything. The tape is very strong and hope that with the heat it will not loose its adhesion. Before and after pictures attached show in process. We did vertical tape too and ran out. I contacted Michael directly and he sent out another roll that day N/C. And no questions. With 95 degree temperatures and direct sun for 7+ hours, it really keeps the temperature down inside the garage. We highly recommend this product After having installed the product for a few days, noticed that some drooping of the panels to the adhesive tape. Decided to add self tapping hex head 9/16 inch heck screws with number 10 washer to assist in holding the panels to the door. This was a quick and easy fix. Maybe the heat caused it to not adhere completely. now is 100% sealed.

I have a Stanley 2-car garage door. There are 4 sections: 21-inches, 21-inches, 21-inches, and 19-inches high (bottom to top). 191 inches wide. I received a large box containing the insulation, double-sided tape, razor knife, and directions. The directions were at the bottom of the box, so dig for them. The installation is a two-step process. On the first day, apply the double-sided tape to the various garage door panels. The directions say to wait 48 hours for the tape to adhere before proceeding with the insulation portion. I first cleaned all of the surfaces where the tape would go. The worst was the very bottom edge which was quite dirty. The tape went on fine and I had plenty left over. I used a continuous strip on the horizontal very top and very bottom, and partial strips on the remaining horizontal sections and all of the vertical sections. But I had some things crop up, so I ended up waiting 8 weeks before I had a chance to install the insulation. The box consisted of 4 long insulation panels that were wrapped around eachother. So I had to unfurl all of that in order to get to the first of the panels. Then I had to cut each panel to height (21,21,21,19 inches). Then remove the yellow side of the double-sided tape on the first garage-door panel, then apply the insulation, then trim that panel to width (around 191 inches; trimmed in-place). During this process, I also had to trim around each of the hinges on the panels, and work around the lock-wire that runs horizontally the full length of panel #2. On the whole, I'm actually surprised that it turned out as well as it did -- it looks like the pictures. I'm handy, but this install had plenty of opportunity for mistakes. The biggest of which is trimming the panels to the right heights. I would have gladly paid more if they'd come pre-cut my heights. On the whole I'm happy with the installation. The trick is to cut the panels' heights to the right size before installation, but trim the width after installation. It cuts fine with scissors; I didn't use the included razor knife. And I cut slots for the various hinges as I went along. Likewise, remove the yellow tape backing as you go instead of removing it all at once. And peel back a small section of each tape; on the first attempt I tried to peel-as-you-go but that was a nightmare. For the remaining panels, I peeled back a couple of inches so that I could remove the remainder as I went when I was applying the insulation. I'm not sure how well this is going to work, and it seems that it might make a nice nest for a creature (inside the cavity formed on the bottom panel) once they poke through there. Likewise, summer temperatures can reach 118 degrees here in the Summer, so I'll know how well it works in a couple more months. Scott

I installed this a couple weeks ago in my 18x20 garage that I've turned into a woodworking shop. I'm located in southeast Michigan and it's currently 13 degrees outside. I used to have a temperature difference of ~15 degrees from the wall where my heater is located to the area by my garage door (opposite ends) but after installing this I have only a couple degrees difference. The reflective material does a great job of keeping heat in my garage so my heater runs less and the space is comfortable. The seller provides clear instructions with the kit and includes his phone number and email address for help with issues. I have a specific brand of garage door that he specifies in the instructions to contact him for additional directions. I emailed on a Sunday afternoon and he responded within an hour and asked to call. He was very helpful and wanted to make sure the install was done correctly. You can't get better support than that! Before buying you should be aware that the panel width doesn't always match your garage panel width so you may have to cut to size. This honestly wasn't an issue with a good razor knife. I hung each panel and then used the gap between the door panels as reference for the knife and I got a perfect match. Even up close it looks like one solid sheet. The other thing that many have already mentioned is the adhesive. First, follow the directions and clean/degrease everything and after attaching let it sit to tack up. If you skip those steps it's not going to go well. Yes the adhesive is really difficult to work with but if you start the end before you attach to the garage door it goes much easier. It took 4 hours to complete (most of that time is fiddling with the adhesive) so don't plan to just throw this up in an hour. The results are worth the time and money imo.

The kit comes with 4 rolls of foam, a squeegee, a knife and a 2 page copy of instructions stapled together. First of all, I expect the product to acomplish its purpose, which is to reduce the temperature in my garage on hot days and provide a bit of insulation on cold days. The science of this material and its application are straighforward. However - I was not prepared to cut each roll to size. It was not hard, but you need a straightedge, a surface to cut on, and a decent knife. The one that came with the kit broke in the first five minutes of use. Get a sturdy utility knife, and you'll be fine. After installing, I realized I could have installed the oversize panels and trimmed after each one. However... Despite following the instructions to the letter (allowing 24 hours for the tape to 'tack up'), the panels fell off, requiring removal of the existing tape, purchasing 2 rolls of Gorilla double sided tape, re-taping the door and reinstalling the panels. So - 3 stars for crummy tape, cheap knife, and poor installation instructions. The product works, but the seller can do better to help.

Good product but had to modify installation. I can't offer any savings stats yet because I didn't get it installed until after our last freezing weather of the season. During such weather the inside temp in the garage typically dips to the low 40s F. I will have more info when summer arrives. Overall savings may be modest since our door faces north and is a wood construction 16' wide by 8' tall that already provides some level of insulation vs. a sheet metal door. I failed to notice 2 things before ordering: 1. This appears to be designed for sheet metal doors which explains the first change. The supplied double-sided tape won't stick well to unfinished wood surfaces. No problem, I used a staple gun. Worked fine and holds securely. 2. The doors in photos shown by the seller had 4 segments vertically and my door has 5. The material comes in 4 full width pieces rolled up together. No major problem but it took a little longer to install since I had to cut the the pieces to fit my segments. The wood door also has 4 horizontal braces for support and to keep wood from warping. Unfortunately not all of them were at an edge or hinge line. Again, I'm used to adapting things to work. All turned out fine. If anyone has to make any such mods on their door, only attach the material to one segment per strip. When the door opens there is nearly an inch gap between segments along the hinge line as the door opens and rolls back at the top. Don't secure the material to that next lower segment or it would pull loose. One unexpected plus is that the foil surface actually makes the light much better in the garage when the door is down. I move our outdoor potted plants inside before the first hard freeze to protect them and they seemed to respond well to the increased light.

Just installed it. I chose to fasten the material to the ribs of the garage door, not flat against the panels, creating a gap others suggested. Mine came with a large roll of two sided tape and I used it all and had to use some of my own. No sticking issues. Most important tool you need is a pair of very sharp pointed tweezers, to get the backing off the two-sided tape!

I can't believe I didn't do this sooner. As I installed I shot temps of the door and immediately saw 10 degree difference. When it was complete my garage became tolerable during the day in the summer. The garage is still not cool...no AC, but it is a ton cooler (about 15 degrees). The product came as described. Install was rather easy. I split the garage in half and instead 4 sections per side. While I read some folks had problem with the tape, mine worked great. There was plenty for a 4-section 7X16 garage door and after a month there is no evidence of any problems. I decided to remove hardware and reinstall on top of the insulation...this is where I learned a few things. 1) mark the holes with toothpicks or something so when you reinstall the hardware, you know where the screws go. 2) Don't remove anything under tension (ie, the piece on the bottom with the cable connected. I attempted to only loosen the screen to push the insulation under part of the piece, but the tension popped the screw out. The easiest way to reinstall the piece then is to open the door where the tension is removed. 3) Remove joints on one side at a time, install product, reinstall joint/hinge, then move on to the next side...removes all risk of door falling apart...seems like common sense, till you forget and oops. 4) keep your hands clean while you are working with the 2 sided tape. Easy to get greasy then ruin the adhesive on the tape.
