Constructed of aluminum, this 4" high peg clamp securely fastens to the base. The work head is removable.     • A few DIY mods to this clamp can help. It isn't perfect out of the box. +how to get more pins
If you've lost your pins or need more, read below in the suggested mods paragraph. Likes: It is solid. CNC milled aluminum clamp. Everything else is solid different grades of steel so it has a little heft despite it's small size. Clamping range max 52mm or just over 2", min about 3.17mm or 1/8". Double ball joint for potential positioning. Dislikes: There is a lot of play in the two aluminum jaws with only the single tensioning thread for friction. There are two guide rods but they are a bit loose fitting also so you need to use a bit more tension than necessary to stop potential movement. The ball joint that screws into the base out of the box just spins. If you tighten the ball joint tensioner enough to hold the clamp in the position it is likely the entire upper part will break the tension in the threads in the base and spin. Mods!!: 1) Putting some thread locking compound (Lock Tight) into the base connecting screw will stop the spinning. 2) Epoxying a neodymium thumb magnet to the base will help with not losing the pins and keeping the little hex key from getting lost. Make sure you rough up the paint on the base before epoxying. 3) Replacing or getting more pins! The pins that come with it which fit very snug have an outside diameter is 3.01mm. A great replacement for them is "spring hinge tension pins". I happened to have a few of them in a box of random things and the ones I have are 2.94mm OD, so close enough. You can get these on Amz, or many hardware stores that sell door hardware. A sufficiently sized hex key would be small and strong enough to be a proxy pin. ... show more

Very affordable vise for scale modeling and hobby work. Came greasy in the bag, but that’s better than getting a dry machine. I dried off the excess oil, added some lube to the main screw, and used some spare fuel line tubing to soften the pegs for use with plastic parts. Ball joints adjust nicely and allow any angle compared to horizontal machinist style vise many hobbyists use. I’m glad I spent twenty bucks on this instead of $90 of the fancy red one. ... show more

    • The wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round...
The clamp does what it's supposed to do, and as I'm using it for holding small miniatures, it does it without having to mount it to anything. The base is heavy enough without being bulky and crazy heavy that I can use it on a light table if I have to and all the important parts are metal so if I 'shouldn't' need to worry about something breaking under stress. Later on, I may want to get a longer hex screw for the middle so I can get a nut on it to help secure it (it barely sticks out a millimeter or two past the other side) Overall, it does what it says. ... show more

    • Great product, arrived really dirty
This works wonderfully for any detail work where a still platform is necessary. I use this for airbrushing small models, and it's modularity and design are perfect for this task. Shipping was prompt (arrived two days before something I ordered the same day) and the price is hard to beat. So why 3/5 stars? When I received this item it was in a dinged up, soggy plain brown box that was falling apart. Upon opening it the tool and all its components were swimming in machining oil. Like, just caked in the stuff. I had to soak it in a degreaser and run it through an ultrasonic cleaner twice to get the machining grease out of the grooves and off the stand. It was awful and got everywhere. There is no excuse for this, companies need to clean their products before selling them. ... show more

    • If you only use this in one position and get rid of the articulated parts, it's usable.
I guess this was just a mistake but I received an odd number of pins. The tolerance in the space between the moving jaw and under it is huge. Having said that, for this money all I really expected was the clamp, I mounted it straight on the base with some threaded rod and just spin the whole thing around. If you want a quality vise, look elsewhere, if you're a hobbyist or have a really light touch, try it out, worst case, you return it. ... show more
