Works as advertised. I had a few hard drives from old laptops that I was able to retrieve files from. Drives were out of Windows based platforms and recovered onto an Apple PowerBook. 2 drives were IDE and 1 SATA. Great tool and worth the money!

This is the product I had been searching for, for a while. I had a huge stack of old firewire hard drives from 20yrs ago that have been sitting around. I'd been searching for cables to convert the hard drive to, when a friend said just get a bay and pull out the hard drive from the case, and you can convert it to USB from the hard drive bay. I went on YouTube to try and find the easiest way to convert my old firewire drives, and found this product in the video. I successfully removed the drives from all the enclosures and this product worked flawlessly. It's incredibly easy to use, the design is great, and I was able to get the USB-C version to connect it to my Macbook Pro. I've now backed up all data and couldn't recommend this product enough to those in similar situations.

DOA. Blue LED flicks on for about a second after powerup, but no USB connection is made, no new device shows up in Windoze device manager, and no drive appears on My PC. Tried two different SATA drives - nothing. User manual is a joke - it has a diagram showing the LED but makes no mention of its function. UPDATE: At first this device would not show as USB device on Windoze PC after plugging and unplugging + powering up, several times. But when I plugged it into a different USB port, it suddenly appeared! WTF? So I plugged it back into the original port and., voila, it showed up. Never had a connection problem again. Maybe it was my PC? Anyway, I changed from 1 star to 5 because a day or two after I posted this original review, I received an unsolicited email offer from mfg to replace it. I CALL THAT GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!! - deserving 5 stars just for that.
