  • A modern device that gives superb value.
Pattern Name: Radar Detection
I have owned dozens of detectors over the years. When time came to upgrade, I researched the market very carefully. Uniden does an outstanding job against the competition and gives great performance at good prices. I chose the DFR9 because it is the newest model released by the company. The features are top notch, just the right amount without giving silly gimmicks. I put one in my car and another on my motorcycle, then a speed marker in my neighborhood gave an ideal testing situation. I made several passes with both vehicles and on the approach, the detectors chirped reliably way before reaching the marker device. Going away from the device, the detectors chirped again giving good rear performance with a little less range than going forward. You do get some false alerts, but the editing features of this detector can clean them up nicely. The quiet ride feature is marvelous for stopping false alerts in shopping centers. I set the speed at 15 MPH and the detector always indicated radar presence, but kept silent and displayed the quiet ride feature. I am tempted to set that speed value a little higher, but I live near several school zones, so I definitely want full alert when the speed limits of 20 MPH are in effect. When getting a false alert in other areas, tapping the mute button twice will tag that spot and you won't get the annoying chatter again. Let's face it, any radar detector has two important major functions with everything else being a distant minor. Number one is giving you plenty of notice when an actual radar is being used to monitor speed. Number two is eliminating false alerts that are increasing in todays radio wave driven world. The DFR9 does an outstanding job overall and is an incredible value at its low price. ... show more

  • This is the one!
Pattern Name: Radar Detection
Comming from a novice, this is the first radar detector I've purchased in about 10 years. The previous one I owned was a Cobra and it was trash. So this time around I did my research and found this unit to be the best in its price range (Unless you want to spend about $100 more for the Uniden R3 which has further range capability.) I opted to use the suction cup mount it came with, and the power cord has a mute button built in. I would prefer it mounted and hardwired into my rearview mirror, but for now I can live with the cord because it plugs in from the passenger side. Its very easy to set up, the screen display is crystal clear. You can adjust everything from the sensitivity of the band detection, to alerts for your speed, color display, volume and brightness. It comes with a very nice hard case, power cord and USB cord to connect to a computer for updates. I chose the unit in black instead of silver because some reviews said the silver reflects against the windshield. The suction cup holds tight and the unit doesn't bounce around, its light weight but doesn't feel cheap. Overall I am extremely pleased with it. It doesn't give off a bunch of false alerts, it has voice alerts for red light cameras, as well as all the bands, it doesn't beep endlessly and it doesn't distract me while driving. It's not a $500 escort but it performs just like one. ... show more

  • Realiable, quality, no-nonsense detector
Pattern Name: Radar Detection
The detector is very similar to the Uniden R3 with a somewhat shorter range. Worked perfectly out of the box, the display is clear and readable, no glitches whatsoever. Detection is reliable and consistent, the memory features are convenient. Button layout is ideal, and I particularly like the power connection placement on the right side of the unit, which effectively hides the wire from the driver's view (the unit is hardwired to the overhead console). All in all, no complaints at all so far, this is a great unit, especially considering its price range. UPDATE (7/1/19): Still standing by my original review. One more thing I've noticed over time is how unobtrusive the unit is to the driving experience, false positives are very rare and my original fear of constant disruption and having to tinker with settings all the time has been greatly allayed. At the same time, detection is still very reliable and precise, and the experienced range is absolutely satisfactory (no arrows, of course, but that'd bump this detector into another price range altogether). This is an excellent unit for a great price. ... show more

  • Initial 12 volt power adaptor defective
Pattern Name: Radar Detection
I bought the DFR9 laser/RADAR detector. Out of the box the power supply, model DFRUADP, does not work. Update: Uniden sent (slowly) a replacement adaptor without question. Detector works well with many features. Takes some time to figure out all the options in advanced mode. You can just leave it in the canned city/highway modes. Unit detects radar signals early giving driver plenty of time to react & locate the threat! I have not encountered a laser signal in 3 months of city/highway use. Upgraded to 4 stars. ... show more

  • This has gotten me out of tons of tickets !!!
Pattern Name: Radar Detection
This is a great radar detector !!!! I live in Pennsylvania, and there's lots of mountains, and this goes off before you make it around the mountain. Sure enough, an officer is there, and I had more then plenty of time to slow down. Also on long mile straight aways, it warns you with time to slow down. It does have some K signals that come up more often, but you can apparently get rid of those. I'd rather be safe then pulled over, so I didn't change it. But this works excellent !!! Sure, the plungers suck....lol... But they all do, unless you get a good suction cup base thinger. I just wedge it between the dash and the window and it stays real good, but that's my car. 2019 Toyota Prius. Otherwise, I definitely give this 5 stars for saving me lots of money, time, and getting pulled over. I love when it says, lasers !!!! Makes you feel like your in a Sci-fi movie !!!!! Hehehehehe Anywho, works great ! :-) ... show more
