This rod is exactly as advertised. I purposely chose it to bank fish through weeds and grass for fresh water “game fish” like bass. It does a great job. My only “complaint” is that, as expected, it is not as sensitive to bumps and bites as my smaller lighter rods - of course. This rod serves it's purpose for me, which is pier fishing for mackerel. Holds a Sabiki line full of macks just fine. IMPORTANT: fresh out of the box, the detachable part of the rod tends to separate easily. I would not want my rod coming apart while I'm pulling up a good haul. A fisherman helped me better secure the two parts in place by lightly sanding the tip of the base part that inserts into the hole of the detachable part. This made it more gritty, increasing friction so it wouldn't easily come undone. After the fix it's a 5 star rod, the thing is built dang tough and nicely flexible. ... show more

My wife wanted a lighter pole for catfishing she is a tiny woman. I own lots of ugly sticks, 12 I think. We catfish and occasionally offshore and pier fish. In general Ugly Stik rods are awesome. This one fit the bill, she has landed a few 30 pounders and set aside a little small for the job it is an awesome rod. We have a Kastking 4000 reel on it, little over kill for the rod but for fish not. We have 50 pound braid on it. About 2 years now really good rod and no issues. The plus is it is light for her, strongest than most and fishes great. ... show more
