Didn't get 5 stars because the reel seat is very basic. Not good for sensitivity but if you use a bobber that doesn't matter. These tips don't snap and break like most ultralight rods. I have this one and a GDX2. These are worth the extra 10 bucks.

It's been quite a few years since I wanted a new rod to go fishing with, but this year I decided to replace a couple older rods I've been using. I'm 59 and I've been using an Ugly Stick since I was 15. It was my very 1st rod I ever bought and I still use it today. So I decided I'd give it a couple younger brothers. I ordered 2, 6 1/2 foot Ultra Light, 2 piece Ugly Stick Elite at the same time. They both were delivered today in the same box. 1 rod had 2 bent eyelets which was easy enough to remedy but the bigger issue is that both rods on NOT the same size. Their is clearly a height difference of more than 1 inch, making the shorter rod only 6 feet 5 inches. This shouldn't affect its performance, hopefully, but the fact that these are now made in China, which I didn't know, is rather upsetting. China is not known for its Quality Control and here is more proof. This fact does not bode well for Shakespeare. Just another large corporation who chose price over quality. I would have paid more, if it came to that, if given the choice to buy American over Chinese. If quality control doesn't matter anymore to Shakespeare, will I have to worry about dependability too? If/when I'm in the market to buy another rod, I will question if another Ugly Stick made in China, is worth the price. ... show more

Used it today for the first time catching crappie..i will be surprised if it lasts very long..quality is not there anymore..feels so cheap built..Fenwick Eagle for about the same cost is a better buy..and yes i have both of them
