Was expecting good quality and not disappointed. Sensitive tip and plenty of backbone for larger fish. I have several of the designer rods and find myself grabbing this instead. Topped it with a Abu Garcia 6500C3, Spooled it with 20lb Stren and it’s fast becoming my go to. Biggest catch so far is a 28lb Blue on this rig . Can’t go wrong with a Ugly Stik ! ... show more

I bought this fishing rod to better my skills at fishing from the shore. For me, the 12 foot Ugly Stick is an on going learning process. Ugly Stick is a proven fishing pole at a very reasonable price. Therfore, I can learn to cast further without breaking the bnk. But alas, the 12 foot Catfish Special was delivered with a reel seat/clamp and not the trigger seat model as shown. For me, the trigger seat gives a reference place for your hand to land without looking. Your hand is in the proper position to "thumb the spool" when making long cast. No birds nest catastrophe on my reel! ... show more

I gotta say Ugly Stick, your rod would have 5 stars if it weren't shipped in just a little plastic bag to protect it, nonetheless MINE wasn't damaged like many others. That being said this rod is excellent. It's durability was immediately tested on my first cast when my inexperience with surf rods showed through and I swung straight through to the guard rail. Lol Not a scratch! 2nd cast went 60 yards right where I wanted it so that wasn't so bad either. Next thing you know I have this 20 lbs blue slugger. I imagine I can cast way further with practice. Ugly Stick; Lemme see a review where you start boxing your poles and I'll change my review to 5 stars. I ordered another one. I love the pole. ... show more
