    • It's not as cheap as it looks, but it comes with the mounting plate that everyone's going on about.
I just installed this, and it was pretty fun, and easy. Granted, I had an old winch I was swapping it in for, and the holes were in the right spots and that took nearly all the work out of it. Now, I only really need to lift my plow and bucket attachments up on my ATV, and maybe the occasional pull over a rotten log I get high-centered on, and this light-duty model is a great combo of price, compact size, and no overkill. What it is not, is very cost effective if you want to do things like get a better hook, install a roller thing so the plastic cable doesn't rub out too fast, go to the store and buy an expensive bolt kit because you didn't realize it came with the bolts to mount it (guilty), or read all the erroneous comments about how "Harbor Freight has the fairlead mounting plate for 1/3 the price of the one for sale here". It comes with the winch-mounting/fairlead-mounting plate in the box. Don't "save money" by getting the lower-priced in-store plate (like I did) before the winch arrives and you have a chance to fully inspect it to see what you want or need. If you know you want things like the roller, a rubber stopper thing, a better hook (this one has a 1/4" loop for mounting the included hook, so factor that in), and all that stuff, you should just buy one that costs $20-50 more that has those things that you will be spending that much more on to begin with. The wiring was pretty simple though. Not as simple as my old winch, which just connected the "buttons" to the battery and to the winch. This one connects a fuse box to the battery, and to the relay box, and the relay box to the winch, and then the buttons use a special connector to plug into the relay box. Now, the buttons bolt onto the handlebars, so all that extra stuff for letting you walk around while winching is of no benefit to my ATV plowing/yardwork application. I wanted to shorten all the wires so I didn't have to wad them up for a clean install, but all the extra components make that pretty sketchy and add all the needless bulk anyway. Anyways, it moves fast and smooth when lightly loaded. Using this near its maximum load is silly and will likely cost an eyeball and will invoke the 3% duty cycle and very slow complaints that one complainer had. The included manual is from some other winch, as another reviewer stated, which was a problem limited to not knowing its correct "baseball card stats" in my case. The motor sounds very smooth and the gear train sounds like a blender full of nickels, which is unsatisfactory. I did, however, pick the cheapest synth-rope winch available, and then promptly double its price with upgrades and add-ons for what will likely amount to 20ft of in/out per year though, so all I can credibly say is "Use your own best judgement". ... show more

    • A good winch for light duty use.
I purchased this winch for non vehicle use pulling light loads at slow speeds and it will likely work well for my intended use. With a 5% duty cycle, and a 45 second run time restriction at full load, I wouldn't recommend it for off road use where it might be worked to it's maximum load rating. It might work good for operating snow blades, etc. ... show more

    • No mounting bracket included
I bought this item on Prime Day for a “discounted price.” At the time it appeared as if I was getting it for half off. When I look at the item now, it is the same price I paid for it! No mounting bracket is included so the cable guide has nothing to mount to. I am left building my own bracket. Hopefully the winch isn’t a piece of junk. Just bad advertising and I wish I could return it. There are kits available for the same price or $5 more that have the bracket included. ... show more

I went for this one because I planned to modify it and use it for an unusual use, building a bed that tucks away into the ceiling. I like that they opted for rope rather than steel cable and that the switch was small and not so industrial looking. I'd feel the same if this were actually on my ATV! Wish though that they'de used a more common connector from the switch wire to the control box that would make it easier for me to extend the switch's cable to another part of the room. That and the "breaker" actually just seems to be a fuse, and it's LOUD, but those are small gripes. For $65, I'd buy it again all day! ... show more
