The media could not be loaded. Well it seems to me that in 72 years of living on this Earth and enjoying music and especially turntables and phono cartridges one might say I've been around the block a few times. The turntable for review here is the Retro life h u 006 and compared to last year's Blockbuster turntable at such an entry level price the Angels horn HP double O2 I must say that this one is quite impressive! After tweaking the two speeds 33 and 45 the stability of the highly crafted machine is quite impressive but do thoroughly clean the inner and outer rims of the platter as it uses a very sophisticated speed detection and correction system. It is imperative that you supply your own RCA photo patches and I highly recommend the 3ft Cable Direct from Germany available here on Amazon for about 10 bucks. These cables can make an audible difference and seem to be a wonderful match for the Audio Technica cartridge and the Retro life tonar which in itself is very impressive! Some reviewers will complain about the use of plastic on the tone arm but I'm telling you the combination of the plastic head shell area and the metal tone arm works wonderfully with the Audio Technica 3600 l phone cartridge which can easily be upgraded to the two gram tracking 91b. Once this is done you will have a machine but you need not make any apologies to any of the audio files knobs who spent hundreds or even thousands on their equipment. From the lowest lows to the highest highs the detail is stunning! And so is the polymer wood plastic finish in cherry wine of the unit itself. It is absolutely gorgeous to look at in person rather than just pictures alone and the entire turntable kit built in the USA by you with foreign parts coming from China renders a first rate analog reproducer that you can be proud of and enjoy for years to come. I just mounted the Audio Technica vm95c blue cartridge to the tone arm for an upgrade and now the sound quality has been taken up another level and it was so easy because of the threaded mounting holes in the new VM 95c. I highly recommend that retro life include this cartridge with this turntable in the future. The nice thing other than the easy mount is that the user can upgrade by simply buying a more expensive stylus right on up to the ml micro line one at the top of the line! ... show more

You do not have to be a turn-table expert to set up this record player! I like the Bluetooth component-- the turn table is upstairs and I can listen to it on my portable speaker downstairs. My 15 year old decided she wanted a record player for her room. We have a technics direct drive unit with a blue ortofon cartridge connected through a nicer pre-amp and some Aperion speakers in our media room but this unit was purchased for her bedroom. I’m telling you what I have so you know where the feedback is coming from. I chose this unit for her after a lot of searching online. There are lots of decks and systems out there but what tipped the scales for me was the Bluetooth connectivity and the cool look of the deck. Bluetooth was important so she can connect to headphones. So on to the unit. It looks great the wood color of ours is grayer than the reddish wood in the pictures but we preferred that anyway. It does look very cool The sound is pretty good, I gave it a 4 because I’m basing that on the price of the unit and that we connect to a Bose Bluetooth speaker I chose this because it’s mostly manual (that should be part of the vinyl experience) but I do wish it had auto-return as my kid forgets and the cartridge is sat on the vinyl for hours or even days The only minor issue was that the belt shifted on the drive spindle and we had to move that back between the guides, this caused the records to play too fast The Bluetooth connectivity with an older Bose speaker takes an age to connect, like FOREVER, it’s fine with a newer model speaker so this could just be the older speaker having connection issues but it dropped the score for us to a 3 on that because it is so very frustrating, it’s like waiting for a tube amp to warm up! The cartridge can be upgraded which is a great feature, be interesting to throw my ortofon blue on there sometime Overall this was a great purchase and she continues to add to her vinyl collection which I’d say is in part down to this unit and is what the vinyl experience is all about, that connection with something physical ... show more

The media could not be loaded. For the price of this I am surprised by the quality! Balancing took a little longer the first time than I care to admit, but now that I know how it was super easy! The sound quality is amazing, the Bluetooth capabilities are convenient! Would definitely purchase again!

    • Looks nice but has major issues

While this turntable looks nice, its functionality is very lacking. First: if the belt is not perfect centered onto the platter it will ride up the motor shaft and slip off. Second: the tone arm has major tracking issues. I have perfectly balanced and set tracking force on the tone arm. And yet, the tone arm / cartridge gets stuck at certain points while playing records. I’ve tried multiple records, including brand new ones. Still, the stylus will get stuck while playing and cause a repeat skip. I’ve tried everything to correct this, but unfortunately I believe the tone arm is defective or has a design flaw. I have emailed the support, and they are pretty much useless at this point. So I have wasted money on this turntable. So now I am ending up having to buy something else and basically throwing this one into the bin. I cannot recommend this at all. It is not worth it.
