    • Arrived damaged, but repairable.
Size: 23 inches
Fireplace arrived damaged, but repairable. Fake fireplace/heater simply poorly packed. Half the top of the shipping box says in large caps to save all packing material in case of breakage. Hmmm… how often does breakage occur to necessitate such a large, prominent, very visible warning? Apparently fairly often/often enough. Well, yes, there was some breakage. Luckily it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been. The plate glass on the very front of the fireplace had come out of its restraints and slipped down within the front door – quite fortunately, it hadn’t shattered! (It was chipped in various places around the edges [which left potentially dangerous little slivers of glass all over the place, but that’s another story…]). There are four plastic mounts, one for each restraining clamp. An upper mount had broken, in turn allowing the front plate glass to slip down. There must have been a fair amount of torsion for that plastic mount to snap off. Fortunately, the plastic mount could be super-glued back in place (mostly). Attaching the clamp then provided just enough ginger support to help hold the front plate glass in place. On the other hand, the plate glass on the right side of the fireplace is somehow way out of alignment – it leaves about a half inch air gap at the bottom. The left side is fine. The right side didn’t look like an easy fix to get the glass into its proper position, so I’ve just left it. Fix looks like it would require too much disassembly of the entire unit. Also, only later did I notice some flaws on the screen where the “flames” dance. (It appears as if the screen has been scraped or scratched – scraps/scratches are in line with each other and separated from each other by more than a few inches [mostly not noticeable]). There was an additional errant screw and a few pieces of plastic – seemingly from somewhere within the inner workings of this fireplace. The heater box appears to work fine. Timer works fine. Flames adjust nicely. The remote works sort of/mostly right now, but I don’t have much faith in it. Most functions work readily, others not at all. (Can turn on and adjust heater box & flame, timer adjustment works sometimes, sometimes not). Buttons too often require multiple or very hard pressing to get them to work - that’s why I don’t have much faith in this remote lasting very long. Ah yes, note the legs are packaged two together at a time. This means one can easily scratch the other (I put one such scratched leg on the back with the scratch facing away). Note: the entire unit is extremely easily scratched. Would I buy this again? I don’t know. I really like the dancing flames. I didn’t need another heater. It does look nice. But how long will it last?? – who knows (maybe forever, maybe not even a year). I’d certainly purchase it again at half the price, say $75. I was lucky. With a little superglue, a bit of masking tape and a screwdriver, I was able to get this damaged, semi-faulty product working satisfactorily enough. But if that front plate of glass had been shattered instead of just chipped, I suspect it could have turned out to be an overall rather disappointing story, possibly horrendous. ... show more

But pictures can sometimes be deceiving and be prepared that it is a little bit small… if you’re looking for just a little space heater, no problem this will work fantastic but the whole point of this one versus another space heater is the fact that it has the little fake fireplace in it. you want to be able to show that off yes? If you put it on a countertop as opposed to the floor, it’ll definitely look better. But just remember it gets hot so be careful if it was bigger, I would definitely give it five stars. As far as it working and keeping you warm? 100% ... show more

    • Powerful little heater - A trick to make the fire more realistic

I have a balcony where it is always cold and windy, but we’re not allowed to have a fire out there. I wanted to have the ambiance of a fire and I wanted adjustable heat. I bought this little heater based on reviews that it has great heat output for the size while being quiet and I totally agree. It’s nice and warm when I’m right in front of it, but there is also great heat spread indoors and it warms up a small room nicely. I did not notice an off-putting smell or sound. The thing is, I almost returned it as soon as I received it. The fake fire was a little cheesy. I am no stranger to fake fires and have owned other faux fireplaces and would say out of the box this one wasn’t that realistic. There were just too many big flashes of red in it. In my opinion real fireplaces usually put out orangish light with just a few licks of red in the flames with the red mostly confined to the embers at the base of the fire. Simple fix was I unscrewed the bottom panel (before screwing the legs on) and simply partially covered the 2 red bulbs with black electrical tape (high heat resistant, fire retardant) and left the 3 orange bulbs alone. I didn’t cover the entire red bulb, just the top in order to allow heat to dissipate and some red to show through. They are LED lights anyway they shouldn’t get very hot to begin with. This made the fire look SO much more realistic. Before screwing the bottom panel back on, I recommend turning only the light switch on just to check that you like the effect first bcs it’s a lot of screws to take in and out. If you are thinking of altering it this way then obviously you can’t change your mind later and return it. I’m very happy with this purchase and glad I didn’t send it back. It really packs a punch for its size, super easy to move anywhere the only downside is no remote, but for such a small heater I didn’t expect one anyway. ... show more
