  • Good enough for a dark room or with some visible screen
Style: Lemonwood
For about 120 bucks it works pretty good. I've seen in on sale for about 80 bucks which puts it cheaper than a vornado with the auto thermostat. The vornado will be warmer and quieter and I would bet more reliable. But, this does make the fireplace look a nicer and well worth the money, especially when on sale. It's only 1400 watts so it can't actually heat a room very well without being on constantly. The fan noise is acceptable and much better than my wall heater which sound like a leaf blower. The automatic switch that turns it on/off is very loud. It bothered me at first but now I don't even notice it. The heat comes out the blower very low on the front. My fireplace has a lip so if the unit is set flat on the floor, it would block the heat and direct it back to the thermostat. This would cause it to turn of early thinking the room was warm... but it was only warming itself. The thermostat would read 79 degrees, but the room was closer to 60. I resolved it by lifting the front of the insert so it blows up and over the fireplace lip (you can see the tilt in the photo). The thermostat is still quite a bit off. I have it set to 75 degrees and the actual room temp is closer to 67. Not terribly realistic looking but in a dark room or with a screen in the front it looks good enough. I don't really notice it anymore, but when I first added it, it did make the room feel more comfortable and cozy. Certainly easier than light and remembering to blow out candles or using wood/compressed logs and a lot cheaper over the course of it's lifetime. ... show more

  • Loved it but needed some personal modification
Style: Lemonwood
After getting hit with a $200 gas bill, I bought this unit to replace that costly gas fireplace. I am more than pleased with this TURBRO electric fireplace...it replaces the ambience of that gas and ceramic log unit I was using. It's a clever piece of kit, having a rod with reflectors that turns over very bright lights to give a realistic illusion of flames at the back of the fireplace. But knowing the 'magic' of this device I was bothered by the shadow of the wheel on the front of the 'logs', showing a clear shadow of the reflectors as they turned. So I pulled off the plastic top (only 4 screws) and strategically placed paper towels inside the front of the 'logs' to diffuse the shadow of the wheel, put the top back on and Bob's your uncle it gives a great illusion of my previous setup. The illusions so real I swear I can feel heat from it (I don't run the actually heater in it) and I am thinking I will now use my fireplace a lot longer than I did before. This gizmo deserves 5 stars given it's low price and I only took off a star because I had to add the diffusion to the front. I highly recommend this if you like the 'ambiance' of a fireplace but want to avoid the horror of your gas bill. ... show more

  • Over a year and works well
Style: Pinewood
I've had this in my fireplace for over a year. It got my basement kinda warm, but I quickly realized it wasn't the geaters fault. It took me until this winter to figure that the fireplace was the reason it wasn't warm. Even though I would cover the opening with a blanket the outer bancket would be cold. I used a temperature gun and saw the fireplace was in the 30s. When the heater was on it would get to the between 48 and 55. So I decided to get the thin reflective insulation from HD along with the foil tape as seen in the photos. I did add more to the bottom joints of the fake fireplace place brick, because cold air diverted to this area. The temp with the insert off is now between around 55. With the insert on it keeps the basement warm and insidethe fireplace is around 108 if kept on. I also nolonger need to cover the front of the fireplace with a blanket. Before applying any tape you need to clean the fireplace out. I vacuumed and used soplapy water and dried. If you don't the tape will stick and the creosote will just block it. I think that's the issue with all the people saying it doesn't keep it warm aren't prepping right. The basement is the coldest part of the house. So if you don't properly insulate the heater will be fighting the cold air. The laundry room is warm due to the furnace being in there. My only negatives are you can only get the heater to stay on in the on setting. Any other temp setting it's timed. The other negative is you can't run the heater with without the light. You can run the light without the heater however. Overall this is a good buy, because we want to be able to use the fireplace in case of an emergency. ... show more

  • I like it.
Style: Lemonwood
I have a fireplace that needs to be completely rehabed for it to be functional. It would probably cost upwards of $5K. But I always wish I can have a fire in there for the holiday gatherings. I live in a fairly warm climate, so I don't really need to use a fireplace that often. So this is perfect, I get a fairly realistic look of a fire without having to redo my whole fireplace. I am really happy with it. It looks great, and everyone that saw it was impressed with the way it looks. It's not going to warm up your house. I have to stand in front of it to actually feel any heat, but it looks great and that's all I was looking for. I have been using it fairly steadily for about 3 months, still working fine. The remote control is ok, sometimes it take a couple clicks or have to be right in front of it to work, but it's not a big deal. I would buy it again if that ever comes up. ... show more

  • So far it's nice
Style: Lemonwood
So far I like this product. It looks very nice. The heating is adequate, I was probably expecting more in the way of heating. The manual that comes with it is confusing. Which is my reason for the lower rating. My first concern was that the manual says NOT to place the unit within 3 feet of anything combustible.....including furniture. My intention was to place it in a wooden cabinet, as picture shows. However, the website says it CAN be placed in a wooden cabinet and also shows pictures of this use. Since the manual says not to...I called Turbro and was told I could insert it into a wooden cabinet. (Here's hoping that's true). The 2nd confusing factor is the manuals instruction for the remote use. I'm still trying to figure that out. It arrived in a timely manner and was very well packaged. Time will tell if this functions adequately. Over-all, I'm satisfied with this purchase. ... show more
