The coals and flame effects look great, it's just missing the crackling sound of a real fire. The heater works good. My dog sure loves it. She loves to lay on the tiles in front of the fireplace as the heater warms them up. I like that it has a remote so I can just leave the fireplace screen closed and easily turn the unit on and off. I believe the screen might be blocking the remote signal though because the remote has to be really close to the fireplace and pointed just right to work. So far everything works good. We decided to not have our gas heat turned on this winter and opted for a space hater (which I've always been skeptical of cause none have ever heated our house correctly) Let me just say that this heater is the best heater I've ever purchased. We have a three story row home and we put the heater on the middle floor in front of the vent in our living room. I set the temp to 73 on a night that was pretty cold and it heated all of the floors of my house so well that my son thought we had the heat turned on and asked me to turn it down cause his room was too hot. The temps range from 70 - 95F. The remote never worked but to me, there is no need for a remote because you can download the app to your phone and adjust everything from temp to color scheme with the press of a button. I thought I would have to buy two of these but so far this one heater is enough for my entire house. Ive been running it a couple of weeks now and will update my post if it doesn't last all winter. Also, the colors they have for the background are beautiful. You have your choice of different combinations. It has the option to turn on the fake fireplace sounds too. The air blowing out is barely noticeable like a lot of electric heaters. For the price, this is the perfect heater. ... show more

For about 120 bucks it works pretty good. I've seen in on sale for about 80 bucks which puts it cheaper than a vornado with the auto thermostat. The vornado will be warmer and quieter and I would bet more reliable. But, this does make the fireplace look a nicer and well worth the money, especially when on sale. It's only 1400 watts so it can't actually heat a room very well without being on constantly. The fan noise is acceptable and much better than my wall heater which sound like a leaf blower. The automatic switch that turns it on/off is very loud. It bothered me at first but now I don't even notice it. The heat comes out the blower very low on the front. My fireplace has a lip so if the unit is set flat on the floor, it would block the heat and direct it back to the thermostat. This would cause it to turn of early thinking the room was warm... but it was only warming itself. The thermostat would read 79 degrees, but the room was closer to 60. I resolved it by lifting the front of the insert so it blows up and over the fireplace lip (you can see the tilt in the photo). The thermostat is still quite a bit off. I have it set to 75 degrees and the actual room temp is closer to 67. Not terribly realistic looking but in a dark room or with a screen in the front it looks good enough. I don't really notice it anymore, but when I first added it, it did make the room feel more comfortable and cozy. Certainly easier than light and remembering to blow out candles or using wood/compressed logs and a lot cheaper over the course of it's lifetime. ... show more

The device is functional and pretty well built. The lights are a cool effect and look somewhat realistic at night. The heat output was not sufficient for my situation. I had it in the den right next to my living room (total space between the two rooms is about 240sqft) and it was not strong enough to feel the heat in the living room or even sufficiently heat the den. Mind you the temp at that time outside was probably around 20 degrees Fahrenheit. I decided to return it. Could work well in a very small room or just for aesthetic appeal. ... show more
