Description

The Traxxas TRX-4 Scale and Trail Crawler is an all-new design with exciting new features, versatility, and capability. In other words, we built it the Traxxas way, rugged, powerful, and ready for fun! Underneath the authentic scale look is a machine built for extreme off-road capability that takes you to new places and new adventures. Exclusive solid portal axles combine with the steel ladder frame to deliver maximum ground clearance and virtually eliminate torque twist. Both front and rear differentials lock remotely to allow both sharp turning and maximum traction when you need it. A remotely operated high/low range transmission allows TRX-4 to be fast on the trail, while still having the torque and control to tackle a technical climb. Waterproof electronics allow you to run with confidence in the toughest conditions. Innovative new cruise control allows you to set your speed on the 2.4GHz TQi radio and adjust it from the Multi-Function knob to match your pace. Long-travel aluminum GTS shocks provide plenty of articulation and allow height adjustment with the threaded collars. A new waterproof 2075X metal gear servo provides turning grunt to the thick steel steering links. A dual-fit battery tray accommodates both full-size batteries and small 1/16 scale batteries for weight biasing (batteries sold separately). Extreme approach angles and 3.14" of ground clearance tackle the toughest technical climbs. The new highly-detailed scale Land Rover Defender body is as tough as it is good looking. I have always been a Traxxas fan, when I saw they came out with this, a trail/crawler truck, I had to have it. I ordered it first from Tower Hobbies but after a couple months on backorder I found out they no longer are going to carry Traxxas, so I ordered it from Liquid RC, it shipped quick and showed up in about a week. I have had an Axial SCX10 and have a Vaterra Ascender, out of both of those I like this the best, the two speed transmission and lockable diffs. are awesome, the portal axles have way more ground clearance than either the SCX10 or Ascender. So far I have had no problems, ran about two batteries so far, the servo has descent power but does bind up on big rocks, speed is good, quite a bit faster than others I have had. Stock tires are really good for RTR, a lot better than the TSL Super Swampers that came on the Ascender, and as good as the Maxxis Trepadors on the SCX10, in my opinion. Torque twist is non exsistent, even when punching it in high gear from a standing start, the Ascender is terrible and the SCX10 had some. The realism on the TRX 4 is awesome, looks so much better than any of the others I have had, the inner fenders and floor pans make it so you cant see through it to the other side, the only thing you can see is the motor in the front. I put a light kit from My Trick RC in it with a little modification, and it looks awesome. Overall I love this truck, crawls as good or better than the others and looks way better also, is a little on the expensive side but you get a two speed trans. and lockable diffs. out of the box and RTR, the others you would have to buy the mods to put in them. If this is your first RC then you will need batteries and a charger but if you have had RC's before just put a battery in it and go have fun. Another nice function is the cruise control, get going as fast as you want to go, push the set button and it keeps the speed, turn the multi-function knob to go faster or slower or hit the brakes to stop, really nice for on the trail. ... show more

    • Great looking truck at any angle you look at it. Very capable and lots of fun.

Seller shipped item out fast. I received it 5 days earlier than estimated. The Defender is super fun. Love the ability to change the High/Low gear with a flip of my thumb. Also, I can lock front or all 4 wheels for some serious climbing if I want with the switch on the controller. The TRX-4 is waterproof (not a submarine!), so I don’t have to worry about electronics getting wet. Just remember to dry off later. Still, you don’t want bearings and other parts to go rusty later. The two minor issues that I have with this truck are the on/off switch on the truck. I guess I’m just nitpicking on this one. It can’t be access with the body shell on. You’ll have to take the body off in order to turn off the truck when not in use or transporting. I believe there’s a 3rd party parts to solve this, which will be my next upgrade. The second issues that I wish Traxxas should have done with TRX-4 Defenders is come with metal servo horn instead of a plastic one. So far, I didn’t have to replace mine yet but base on other reviews this will happen at some point. Aside from the two issues I have, the truck is well built. My son already flipped it over a few times with no damage. I’ll be spending a lot more time outside playing with the truck when the snow is all melted. For now, I think my son has been playing with it more than I have. So, I guess he’s really enjoying my birthday gift so far. ... show more

June 21 2018 Excellent crawler RC. The various options with speed and differential speeds, make this product worth the money I spent. With all the upgrades I have installed, makes it even more enjoyable to operate this grown ups toy. I use Traxxas 10000mAh 7.4V 2-Cell 25C Lipo Battery. I also mounted my DJI Goggles Racing OcuSync Air System for FPV driving. I drive around my property with considerable ease using my FPV. June 22 2018 follow up. Well, I spoke too soon. 5 stars down to 1, the stock high torque metal-gear 2075 servo died on me yesterday while I was on the trail. Very disappointing and very inconvenient. I replaced the servo last night with one of my spare NON-TRAXXAS brand !!! From reading the reviews, the 2075 servo is a very unreliable unit. I hope TRAXXAS is taking the time reading the reviews for future reference. I contacted support for a possible replacement other than the 2075 model, I am curious as to what they will replace the failed unit with. June 30 2018 Follow up. Back to 5 stars. Traxxas responded to my e-mail rather quickly. At least they are replacing the broken servo. Excellent customer support. I replaced my servo with the Protek Rc - H2oproof High Torque Servo Brushless Crawler Black Label - 370tbl. July 2 2018 I received Traxxas 2075 replacement servo. I don't really intend to use this servo due to poor reviews. KUDOS to Traxxas for replacing the failed servo. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I love this Traxxas TRX Defender! It’s been a blast messing with this on the weekends. I wasn’t sure what to think of investing in a crawler. The true scale behavior of this truck is why I invested in this. I’ve included a slow motion video video in this review. I love watching this thing in slow-mo. The sounds are amazing! Pros- this thing is tuff. Locking hubs with hi and low gear from the transmitter has been amazing and flawless. This truck has been so tuff. Decent speed too. I had purchased a 5000 3cell lipo and I easily get Between 1-2 hours out of a full charge. Cons- only 1, steering service horn stripped on my first outing. I’ve read other reviews about that so I wasn’t shocked about it. It’s a 3-5$ part, no biggie. I got an aluminum one and I have beat the hell out of it with no failures since. ... show more
