I do different things with graphics, and one of those is working up line graphics on the computer and then transferring them for use with other media. I've been using all sorts of workarounds, usually coloring the back side of a printout with pencil and tracing the print side with pen. No longer! I had seen lower-priced and comparably-priced tracing surfaces that were not adjustable, and similar adjustable ones that were more expensive and a bit beyond my budget. THEN, this one popped up in a recent "Amazon Deals" listing, and it had good reviews and looked exactly like the type I'd hoped to get, so I jumped on it, and I'm glad I did. This widget is unbelievably lightweight, especially remembering how cumbersome and *hot* lightboxes were "back in the old days". The principle of this tracer isn't complex in itself, but the nice part of this item is that the *design* and the *function* - basically, the way the principle is applied - is very good; the "small details" add up to improve the function. The black border keeps too much "stray" light from causing distraction at the edges of your work; the ruler is convenient; the sliding light-adjustment works pretty well and is done so that the surface remains smooth, no buttons to get caught on anything, while letting the light level be adjusted to suit the work - less light for tracing with thin paper, brighter for tracing with heavier paper. Regarding the power source, it does not come with an adapter because it's designed to plug into the computer's USB port. I personally prefer to run things off of their own separate USB wall chargers rather than plugging them into the laptop's USB port so that the connections don't get loose and "wiggly" from being plugged and unplugged over and over, plus I prefer to use one that is capable of providing at least 2 Amps just to ensure that the equipment I'm running can get all the power it needs to avoid any flickering or interruptions or whatnot. I personally reserve the laptop's USB ports for removable drives that need to communicate with the computer. ANYWAY, I mention all of that only because there was a question or two regarding whether an adapter was included.

It's lightweight and the USB cable was the first thing I saw at the top of the box. Concise instructions are on the small setup guide. Plugged it in to my laptop and touched the On button. The higher/lower illumination control is a bit wonky. It's the same button as the On/Off: a quick touch and it's on or off, a LONG touch and the brightness increases or decreases. There's not much range in the available brightness, but it's OK. I got this light-pad for taking photos without having to provide lighting for the subject being photographed. This can be a problem when you focus too close and the camera makes shadows from external lights. Without those shadows to worry about copying images is even easier than using a flat-bed scanner, and certainly more portable.

We think this is a great item to use, but we found you can get easily cut on the edge, therefore not using it with little ones or put tape on the edges. Also, you have to have a USB port close by because the cord is not very long, so have to drag your laptop near it. Cumbersome. We really enjoy the dimmer ability. Some of us like it brighter than others and you can adjust super easy.

The color of the frame I received is a very light pink/lavender shade, not the hot pink as pictured. But, it is otherwise fine. I bought this as a backlight to help with tracing outlines onto heavier drawing paper, and it looks like it will perform that function quite well. Arrived in good condition.

As a 2d artist I often need to transfer my sketches to the paper I am ultimately going to work on. I have been using several different methods, like projectors, scanning and printing to the paper, holding up to the light. Just to keep the feel of the original sketch. This lightbox has replaced everything! I love that it has adjustable brightness settings that I can use depending on what type of paper I am using. It is so thin that it really does not feel like you are writing on anything other than the paper. Unlike bulky light boxes, you can easily move your paper around. I would definitely recommend!
