TP-Link AX1500 WiFi Extender Internet Booster (RE500X), Ships from: Amazon.com, Sold by: Amazon.com, $54.79 July 2024. TLDR: Wonderful WiFi client and repeater at the same time. Connect any Ethernet device to your WiFi network. I use one of these to connect several Ethernet devices to the WiFi network through a switch. Just connect the Ethernet port on the RE500X with a standard Ethernet cable to any port on a switch and every other device on that switch has internet access. Switch is a TL-SG108E. Router is an Archer AX-80. It worked so well, I bought another. The second one is solely an internet repeater, nothing is connected to its Ethernet port. The first is 50ft from the router through a standard home wall and has 8 clients, Ethernet and both 2.4G and 5G wifi clients within 20ft. The second is 75ft from the router through a brick wall (with windows) and a standard wall with windows and has one 5G WiFi client at 40ft. The first has 1ms or less ping and zero packet loss over 100 pings. The second has 3ms average ping and has zero packet loss over 100 pings. I have them both set to replicate the exact same SSID of the router so no need to change SSID names with _EXT or whatever. Both are stable and working very well. Both have a security camera WiFi client that streams 24/7 to Blue Iris. Quite frankly, these are the best client/repeaters I have ever owned. Highly Recommended. I have a pet peeve with the lack of heat dissipation engineering on modern electronics, especially WiFi gear. Heat has been, is and shall always be the #1 enemy to electronics. Heat derates all amplifiers. I adapt quiet PC case fans for forced air ventilation on electronics one way or another. On the AX80 I sit it on top of a 12V 140mm PC case fan with padded wood feet. On these AX1500s, I drilled holes in the plastic cases with a 3” hole saw and mounted 80mm 5V USB fans with two 3/4” truss head wood screws. Plug the AX1500 into a 3 Way Plug Adapter along with a USB wall charger and plug the fan into the wall charger. And of course this voids any warranty or thought of return so I waited 48 hrs of burn-in before making this modification. 48hrs burn-in eliminates 90% of infant mortality. I picked up the TP-Link RE515X AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 Range Extender to fix weak Wi-Fi spots in my home, and it did exactly what I needed. Setup was quick and easy using the WPS button, and within minutes I had stronger, more consistent Wi-Fi where my signal used to drop. The Wi-Fi 6 performance is noticeably better, especially with streaming and multiple devices connected at the same time. I use it for 4K streaming and everyday browsing, and everything runs smoothly with no lag or buffering. The smart signal indicator made it easy to find the best place to plug it in, and I like having the Gigabit Ethernet port for wiring in a TV or game console. Overall, this extender is reliable, fast, and simple to use. If you’re dealing with Wi-Fi dead zones or just want better coverage without replacing your router, this is a solid option that works well right out of the box.

Okay, So after a few hours of playing with this I have learned a few things. First, my circumstance: 1. I am needing wifi signal in a building that is about 150 from the house, where I have excellent wifi 2. The remote building is metal and has absolutely zero wifi 3. I had the foresight and blessing to have ran an ethernet lint to the building that is connected to my router. What I ordered was a Tp-Link Wi-Fi 6 Range Extender. THIS DOES NOT WORK IN MY SITUATION. On a side note, I did hook up the extender easily and it seems to work well as an extender. However, the building I have does not have ANY Wi-Fi signal, therefore this does not work for my circumstance. After researching I know the easy way to accomplish my goal is through the use of an Access Point (WAP - wireless access point, however it's wifi signal comes from an ethernet cable that is hooked to my router). In addition, the device I purchase will need to have a POE (Power over Ethernet) and be an Access Point/WAP. After researching I have purchased TP-Link AC1350 which looks like it will be great for my home use. However, if I needed more power I would have purchased a TP-Link AC 1750 access point. Hope this helps someone!

I’m very happy with this TP-Link WiFi extender. It has a clean, compact design that plugs directly into the wall without taking up much space, which makes it perfect for any room in the house. The simple white look blends in nicely and keeps the setup looking neat. What I like most is how useful it is for improving WiFi coverage in areas where the signal is usually weak. I have a TP-Link Archer AX90 (6600) which is overall a pretty good router- with the exception of what we'll talk about is terrible with this extender. My Office, hence my router, sits on one side of our house and we get limited signal in our garage and driveway area (which is not necessarily on the router as there are several walls and some stone it has to pass through). I've tried other Mesh extenders to no avail (Most extenders change smart device's MAC addresses which disables automations which rely on those MAC addresses or it shows as 2 devices) but thought I'd give this one a try since OneMesh is made for the AX90. Set up was very easy and within 5 minutes I had the RE500X connected to my router, OneMesh on, and I had all blue lights. I checked my signal in my garage to find that my signal was still still pretty poor. I logged into the extender via its IP address to find no devices were automatically connecting to the extender as was advertised. I worked through every menu in both the router and extender's firmware to attempt to troubleshoot, and defeatedly, I contacted TP-Link tech support via online chat. It did not take long to discover that the tech support agent had absolutely no idea how any of this tech worked and was either reading very basic information from manuals/ the website or trying to talk to someone who knew more. Eventually, she said I'm going to check on something, never came back, and the chat timed out. So TP-Link Routers have a feature called "Smart Connect" that attempts to automatically balance connected devices across the bands. TP-Link claims "Smart Connect" chooses the most optimal band. However, as I, and a lot of people on forums can tell you, it very consistently does not. My Wifi 6 devices connect to 5Ghz Band 1, which means they connect at 1201Mbps instead of the higher speeds they are designed to run at, and several of my 5 Ghz devices connect to the 2.4Ghz band. There is also no way to override this band selection and, with "Smart Connect" on, you are at the mercy of whatever it decides. To mitigate this, I turned off "Smart Connect" and manually configured the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band 1 to use the same SSID and created a separate SSID for 5Ghz band 2 for wifi 6 and 5Ghz devices which were connecting to the 2.4 Ghz band. This worked well UNTIL I BOUGHT THE RE500X RANGE EXTENDER. After going through every menu and speaking with TP-Link's Non-Tech Support, I reluctantly turned "Smart Connect" back on as I suspected this is why nothing was connecting to the extender. Devices immediately started popping up on the extender and I had strong signals in my garage. I wrote a review of my experience under the AX90 to which I received an email from a Tech Support supervisor who apologized for their agent and confirmed that "Smart Connect" must be enabled in order for OneMesh to work. Reluctantly, I decided to run the extender with "Smart Connect" on and sacrifice the speed for the range so my wife could use WIFI in the front of the house. We've ran it this way for about a week or so and I've started to notice little quirks in my network and smart devices. I've come to the conclusions, once again, it is being caused by TP-Link's Smart Connect/OneMesh. Smart home devices can be very finicky and don't like to be changed once configured. As "Smart Connect" keeps moving devices from the router to extender or across bands, they have been glitching, not pinging right, or falling off the network completely; even my Firesticks. As a lot of my home is automated and runs through Home Assistant, glitching devices and non firing automations are a NO-GO. And of course, you can't override "Smart Connect" for devices you don't want it to move. Which leaves me with an extender that either does not function properly with "Smart Connect" off ( because the devices we want to automatically switch do not) or a destabilized network and broken smart home with "Smart Connect" on. While the Tech Support Supervisor stated that these concerns will be passed on to the engineers (which honestly could probably be fixed fairly easily via software by adding a manual configuration override for individual devices while using "Smart Connect"), it does not change the fact that, right now, OneMesh is worthless without "Smart Connect" and "Smart Connect" is worthless except for a few mobile devices like phones and tablets. "Smart Connect" should be an option to apply to individual devices, not THE ENTIRE NETWORK. I can't trade a functional LAN for range, nor can I recommend this Range Extender for anyone else who has WIFI 6 or smart home devices. I will probably be taking the extender back and breaking down and running CAT 6 to a more centrally located room; something I'd rather not do as I will also have to move my hardwired servers.

Our cable internet connection and all the internet hardware is in our basement. We upgraded our Roku device upstairs, and started having issues with freezing screens and programming drops. The Roku device was showing only a “Fair” signal, with wireless speeds of less than 20 MBs. Found this on sale and gave it a try. Fast and easy setup with our TP-Link router. Big improvement in both signal strength (went from Fair to Excellent) and wireless speeds (went from <20 to >60 MBs). Great value for the money, hides nicely behind the dresser, and works well.

Mesh feature didn’t work on my AT&T router. It works as a secondary Access Point for some of my IOT devices on the far side of the house. When I use my cell phone on that side of the house the internet occasionally drops. For the price it does great on a small scale. For intense usage like a laptop or phone gaming/hd movies might consider a different product.
