UPDATE: I was hearing a sound, but I could not pinpoint where it was coming from. I thought it sounded like a bird was on my rooftop or maybe something living in my attic. My house is not even 2 years old so something living in my attic would not make sense. I went outside and I did not see anything on my roof, so I left it alone. A few days later I had on the fireplace like normal and I was going to turn it off. I realized I hear the same noise. As I got closer to the fireplace I realized the noise was coming from the unit. It's not awfully loud, but if you want peace and quiet it can be annoying. I feel like if I knew about all these problems prior, I would not have bought this unit. Now it's down from 3 stars to 2 stars. If it starts making really loud noise, it's going down to 1 star. For the most part, this fireplace is a nice upgrade to my house. Touchstone does a great job with the realistic flame, the near bezel-less glass display, the amount of colors to choose from, and the different options for the display media (wood, crystals, etc....). What I don't like is that 1) the price is way to high. Let me explain. 2) The remote control for this 60" fireplace is straight garbage. If I'm paying $1200 why on gods earth would it be okay to give me a cheesy flimsy remote control that has no information about what each button does unless I go to the manual that's eventually going to be packed way somewhere? 3) I don't like the fact that I have to press the remote button twice in order for it to respond the first time. You guys knew this was an issue. I have it setup with google home through my harmony remote control app and I have to tell google twice to turn on the fireplace. Bad job touchstone. 4) In this day an age we have smart device. This is not smart home ready. If I'm paying a premium price it should be able to integrate and work with any smart home, without purchasing or using another device to "try to control it". I should be able to say "hey google....turn my ember lights green" and it should do that. Bad job touchstone. 5) If I'm paying $1200 for a fireplace it should come with sound. I should be able to hear a snap, crackle, and pop. Yet again, I'm asking google to play sounds of a camp fire just to get a real feel. You can't give your consumers a wood media and not give them a snap, crackle, and pop like a real wood fire or the rice krispies cereal. You guys have the opportunity to make this better.     • started to make noise

We got the fireplace over the holidays. built a nice wall for it with stack stone. installed it, looked awesome. after 2 weeks of normal use I noticed it shut off 2 or 3 times, didn't think much of it as I thought maybe I had unknowingly set the timer, no big deal. Well yesterday it started making some noise. The noise is tied to the flame speed, if you turn the speed up the noise is faster and a little louder. I'd have to think its either the motor or something connected to it. easy fix? I hope so. the box for this thing has been tossed. I don't even wanna use it now. I call the 800 # this morning, haven't heard back from anyone there yet, hopefully someone sees this. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. We got the 60 inch elite version after looking at all the other competitors. This one looks best and super easy to mount. The remote could be a lot better (confusing icons), but once you set the colors you like, then you probably just use the remote to turn it on or off. I put my fireplace on a Insteon home control light switch so I can use voice control to turn it on and off, and program it to come on and off as desired. Note, these things are mostly for visual effect and add only marginal heat to a room. Our video is not rendering color of the log set properly. Looks MUCH better live and more natural, not so redish. To add some more details, the advertisement mentions the highest heat setting is 1500 Watts, yet we measured it to actually be about 1200 Watts (10 amps at 120VAC) in the highest setting, which actually I prefer to have the additional margin on a typical 15 amp circuit. I measured the Wattage of the visual effects, with heater off to be a surprisingly low 15-20 Watts for the LED lighting and flame effects motor combined. Thus, very little electricity cost when it is on for visual effects only. We also like the thinner border around the fireplace instead of some other models or other competitors with wide side frames. Of course this means you need to more accurately install tile around the fireplace since there will be only 1/2 inch overlap on each side of the frame. Although I would recommend having a contractor to install this unit, I will say I did all of the framing, tile work and installation by myself with no help, and I am an electronics engineer, not a contractor. It was easy and fun. I especially chose this model because it retains some settings when turning off the fireplace with a 120 VAC wall switch and later turning it back on. It remembers the flame speed, flame color, log set color, flame intensity and log set intensity. I never use the remote (just use the switch or Alexa voice control that I optionally installed). Lastly, we got fast and friendly support from the knowledgeable person when we called to ask a couple simple questions. The only other thing we would prefer that isn't in a lot of these types of fireplaces is an optional realistic sound effect of burning logs. Guessing that will be a future feature some day. We just received this yesterday for our new basement. It won’t be installed for another month or so but we unboxed it yesterday just to check it out. It was very sleek, the flames looked great, and it put out heat very quickly. The package of crystals broke open all over the box but thankfully didn’t cause damage like scratches. I will try to update the review after it’s installed. We are very excited that we purchased this over the one for $2100 in the showroom. Edit: our basement is finished and the fireplace looks amazing, is easy to use, and we have received so many compliments. It heats the basement family room quickly and we look forward to purchasing a second one for upstairs. ... show more

I spent months roaming around trying to find an electric fireplace that didn’t look super jank and I can honestly say this is the best one in this price range. Obviously nothing will ever compare to a gas fireplace but there are a bunch of options from flame speed to color combos so odds are you’ll be able to find a setting you like! Haven’t tested the heat output yet because it’s July! ... show more
