I graduated high school in the early 90s. Back then, and in Jr High, the coolest thing was to wear your boyfriend’s jean jacket. I never had my own jean jacket. Until now. Slipping my arms into this jacket was like wrapping myself in teenage angst mixed with a dash of “Check yes or no,” and a side of sneaking a cigarette in the bathroom. (Okay, I never did that but practically everyone else did.) Until I popped the collar on this fabulous jean jacket that represented my teenage years. I was suddenly wrapped in a blanket of confidence tied up with the big red bow of “Yeah he’s my boyfriend, whatcha gonna do about it?” and a few z-snaps thrown in for good measure. Nothing, and I mean nothing, feels like a good jean jacket. They can call it a trucker jacket or whatever else all day long, but if you wore them back then, you know, it’s a jean jacket. And this, my fellow knowers, is a good jean jacket. The sleeves have that extra bit of length so you could cuff them once if you want. Or pull them over your hands and flop the sleeves around. The fit is slightly oversized, the way your boyfriend’s jacket fit you; roomy and cozy, but still warm and didn’t look like you were swimming in it. This is the jean jacket, all grown up. Like we are now. It’s a bit more refined, a little softer around the edges. But it’s still a great jean jacket and I intend to wear it every chance I get. You know that bounce in their step that girls in 80s movies have when they’re wearing their boyfriend’s jacket? Yeah, that’s what happened when I put this on. The jean jacket still has some kind of mental magic on our generation. I just need to find some AC/DC, GNR, Poison, Megadeath, etc patches for the back. That’s acceptable for an almost 50 year old, right? Right?! Puffy paints? Pins? Get yourself a jacket and then tell me you’re not looking for your own patches. I’ll make you a friendship pin.

I recently received this Torrid trucker jean jacket in a size 2 plus, and I am genuinely impressed. For years I avoided denim jackets because I assumed they would be stiff, restrictive, and uncomfortable, especially since I am top heavy with broader shoulders. This one completely proved me wrong. The cotton blend has just the right amount of stretch, which makes it easy to move in while still holding its classic jean jacket shape. It feels comfortable whether I wear it open or buttoned up, and it never feels tight across my shoulders or chest. The length and relaxed fit are flattering, the fabric has a nice softness to it, and the pockets are practical without adding bulk. It is versatile enough to layer over dresses, tees, or sweaters, and it instantly adds a polished touch to any outfit. Torrid really nailed the balance of comfort, style, and function with this jacket, and it has quickly become one of the most wearable pieces in my closet.

As a plus sized woman it can be incredibly difficult to find well fitting clothes and denim jackets are no exception. I have had my eye on this jacket for a while and finally decided to order it. I am an AVID Torrid shopper so I know that my Torrid size is a size 2 which is true to size. This jacket is very cute and well made. The front is button up with 6 buttons total. The 2 front breast pockets are also button up. The lower pockets are slit pockets and fit into the design beautifully. The cuffs are also button up to allow for folding if needed. My arms are very short so I almost always have to fold up the arms of my long sleeved items so I greatly appreciate this thoughtful feature. The jacket is a regular heavier denim material and will keep me warm. I tried it on over a few dresses and pants and love how it looks. The jacket is compromised of cotton and spandex and washes like a dream. I love this jacket and how well it fits. * For reference I am 5’4”, 240 pounds, wear a 38C bra and wear between a 20-22
