  • A beast
Cuts a wide swath of grass very well, but is hard to maneuver and us very heavy

  • Good so far
Putting aside issues with who this was bought from. The mower actually does cut down time to mow - for me almost in half. It runs really well and cuts great. The self-propeller function is a little awkward and takes getting used to, as you have to push down on handle to go by itself. Otherwise, it works pretty well and is widest residential mower I could find. Also be aware it is pretty loud and uses a bit of gas compared to other mowers due to size of engine I imagine. ... show more

  • Incorrectly designed plastic part makes grass catcher unuseable
A plastic part that must be removed to use the grass catcher will not come out. The release will not pass the locking piece of plastic. Customer service will do nothing. Have to drive many miles to authorized service center. The mower cannot be lifted by one person. You must also own a van or truck to haul the mower the many miles to the few-and-far-between authorized service center. You are forwarned if you want to catch grass or leaves! ... show more

  • not reliable
Had this mower 2 years to do the outskirts of a 1 acre yard so use it about once every three times I do my 1 acre yard to get where my 52" will not. 1st the engine is strong but never seems to run the way it should as it skips a beat constantly with what appears to be a miss. New the dealer (which sucks) said didn't do it for them but they would replace carb if I wanted so I said no because any moron can do that and probably they'd screw it up, 2nd , within a year the the engagement cable for the blades broke which is not made to last and cheap so it didn't and third 1-1/2 years after owning it the drive belt for the blades has broke. I fix these myself as it would be a pain to get this in for service and I do it right when I do it. You have to constantly remove the cover and clean it out as it collects grass (as if it was made too) which gets packed in the works to guarantee breakage. It does do a nice cut but the tank is "way too small" for this gas guzzler... ... show more

  • Mediocre performance, but a great idea.
I'm not sure why most reviews are 1 star. If you read the reviews they sound like 2-3 reviews, but one. Honestly this is not a great product at the present price, but it is not terrible either. I got mine from a big box diy warehouse 4 years ago - used at 800 dollars. Loved the 30 inch idea. The engine in mine is a little to weak and slows down in grass that is very thick or long. But if I cut less than 1.5" off, it works very well. I have found that plastic parts were used in places where metal should have been used. I will detail just one such case. The engine kill switch is clamped to the handles. The plastic split. This caused the drive cable to be loose, so it stopped moving. When I googled it,I found that not only was it a common problem, but the a metal replacement part was offered. This in just one of many little "cheap" details. I have been able to fix everything so far. I will be really sad when I cannot fix it any longer. Replacement the drive belt is typical, but it seems a number of people had to replace the transmission with a few years and it is not not an inexpensive part and installation seems to be difficult. When working the drive system is terrific, and if you cut your lawn often enough, it really saves time. Some really nice features, like how the push handle flips out of the way for storage. Too bad it is just not tuff. 3 stars, maybe 2 but not 1. ... show more

  • Pleased
So far so good... 120 lb. female. I was a bit intimidated at first. I mow about 11,000 sq. ft. at home. Pluses: 1/ Deck size is ideal: I can mostly get where I need to, and it doesn't hog the garage. I paid the regular price of $1,200 with tax. Weeks later I walked past some John Deere riders at Lowe's that were returned new and reduced to half price. I did not regret it--they were huge like little cars. I need huge performance but not a huge machine. 30" may only be 9" more than a standard deck (as someone said) but when mowing a large yard that "only" 9 inches compounds fast to make a difference. 2/ Cutting: The first pass I looked behind me at the end and was wowed at how beautifully it had cut. Squatting down the top of the lawn was like a paper edge. I cut at 4" which it accommodates. (In my pic I'm intentionally letting a strip grow out to the left so it may look ragged but isn't mower's fault.) 3/ Mulching: It makes fine green dust. And it smells good. 4/ Bagging: I edge first and then mow: I bag one area with still some weeds and it vaccumes up the edge clippings well enough so I don't have to blow. 5/ Weight: It doesn't damage/compact/kill the lawn or leave tire marks like the ex lawn man's heavy 0 turn (he destroyed a lot of sod). 6/ Fuel capacity: I've found it big enough. I ran out once but it was near the end of mowing a huge area and I was walking really slowly. Minuses: 1/ It's a bit heavy up the slope even with the Personal Pace. I just try to work out and stay fit. 2/ I suspect I do need to upgrade the pulleys because when that many people warn about it, it's fair to prepare. ... show more

  • Does not last
I owned this Toro for only five years. Main drive bearing blew twice, self propelled transmission blew and cannot be fixed. I wanted to love this. Toro's in the past were wonderful machines that lasted forever. This one when I started with it was great. That did not last long. Will never trust a company that charges this much for this junk that breaks all the time. What a shame to ruin a good name by making this stuff. Sorry Toro never again. ... show more
