Great Value Monocular. Very Happy.

I’ve been very happy with the TS004 monocular. I got it probably three weeks ago and I’ve had some time to test it out on a lot of different things from animal viewing to looking at my circuit breaker in my house and also insulation issues around windows and doors and such. I also used it in dark parking lots to see how bright people were so that my wife can use it as she walks at night or goes into parking lot to see if there’s anyone creeping around. I’ve been super happy with it, very impressed, and excited to use it. I’ve looked at the more expensive ones from FLIR and after seeing several very positive reviews on this TS004 model I decided to try it out. I have been extremely happy. I think it’s a great value compared to the FLIR price TS004 can do. Maybe the other one does a lot more but I don’t know. I’m very happy with what I’ve got. I bought this for our property in eastern Idaho that has black bear, moose deer and cougars on it. With my little granddaughter, I wanted to be sure that I could see anything that was on the property at night for safety. I also wanted it in case she wandered off I could see her clearly. I have been very happy to find that as I have looked at many many cows from many distances night and day, they show up bright from a couple hundred yards away or more. I took it to Yellowstone Bear world and the elk and bison can be seen very clearly in the sense that it is an obvious heat source. You may not have the clarity to define exactly what animal it is from several hundred yards away, but you can definitely see that there is something there. The zoom does not seem to be an optical zoom but rather some sort of digital zoom and frankly it’s not as helpful. It just takes the same image and makes it bigger so it gets much grainier as you go out further. It’s got a few different modes like white hot, black hot and “Predator” and so forth. I like the white hot. It seems to work well all the time. The red and yellow thermal like from the predator movie is cool but from a distance, I think the white hot works best for me. I like how you can connect it to my phone and record what the camera is seeing. I can connect my iPhone and it will automatically download videos into my photos. However, when I have tried to connect it to my Instagram editor, it doesn’t work quite right and will not upload the videos. Haven’t figured that out yet. But I think it has great potential. One note of caution is that it should never ever be pointed at the sun. I accidentally did that as I was loading it onto a tripod, and it put two large black spots on my screen and kind of the swirly path where the sun head been in the viewing area. Just like infrared night vision, you can burn the sensors if something is too hot or bright. One word caution is to never ever use it to look at the sun or accidentally have it pointed at the sun. I thought for sure that I had burned the the sensor with the sunlight and that I had ruined my monocular. I quickly went and put it into the refrigerator and left it on for about a half an hour, and eventually those dots in the path went away and there is no lasting damage. I had read online that pointing the camera at something cold when a hotspot has appeared on the screen is a good way to remove that hotspot. Seemed to work. So never try to look at the sun with it or avoid even an accidental exposure. Overall, I’ve been really happy with it. I’m really impressed with how well it picks up heat sources from a long ways away. It is very interesting seeing images created by heat rather than by light. There were times that I was being blinded by headlights while looking at the Walmart parking lot, but you never see those lights through the thermal camera. Other interesting thing is when looking from inside my car, you cannot see out because of the cooler windshield. You cannot see the heat sources outside of the car through cold glass. You have to look through a lowered window. I totally recommend getting this. I’ve never played with the FLIR monoculars for two grand, but I can’t imagine that they are five times better. I would hope that if I had paid that money, there would be some kind of optical zoom rather than just a digital zoom like the TS004 has. That would be my only minor complaint except it still works great at one times magnification. The overall build quality seems great and I have zero complaints on the overall unit value.

I miss my TS004

I highly recommend this thermal monocular! I bought mine December of last year. I only got to use it for two hunts, because it was stolen and I couldn't afford another one. So, I'm back to my really blurry old ASP Micro TM160. But, the two hunts that I used it it proved to be invaluable! I could see antlers from a good distance away with enough detail to discern between the Bucks I had on camera. Really crisp images. I can't afford a second one, though. But those of you that are thinking about purchasing one, don't think about it anymore! Buy this thing! It really is incredible!

Far better than expected.

Perfect and has all the options. Lots of pallets for different weather conditions, record video and takes stills. Unlocks the night knowing what is out there. Also Bluetooth to a phone or tablet so that others can see what you do. Absolutely worth the price. The battery life is truly over 10 hours and does not discharge very quick when in storage. If at all. At least I have not noticed. Rugged exterior. I do wish it had a neck lanyard attackment.

Good starter device

Great starter device. It's fun to use it. I realized that I need a lot more detail and precision for my purposes, so I will be purchasing a higher tier device which I can't even buy on Amazon. Pros: - Compact - Picture is pretty clear up close - Allows to take pictures and videos - You can connect it to your phone - very convenient - Buttons are comfortable, I got used to switching between modes and taking pictures/videos very quickly. Cons: - It's good at detecting heat signatures, but not so great at recognizing. At a few meters you can see animals perfectly, but at 10-15 meters they are just blobs. Also, Ai detection is annoyingly labeling everything as a bird or wild boar (even inanimate objects). - Distance measurement is very far from accurate. In the first image, for example, raccoon (labeled as "wild boar") is very close, like 2 meters away from me. And the app says 13.40 yards, which is 12.2 meters - very far from the truth. - Zoom is useless, like many reviewers already said. Some minor annoying things about the design/app: - Lens cover constantly gets in the way. I wish there was a magnetic holder for it. - There are only 2 screen brightness options, and "Low" is still too bright. I'm partially blind every time I look into the viewer in the dark. - I wish it came with a strap - you either have to constantly hold it, or have a pocket large enough to put it away. I'd rather have it hanging around my neck. - Automatic saving to the phone didn't work for me - I have to save the footage manually (which is a bit annoying, especially since I expected the feature to work). I've attached some pictures or a raccoon, a rat (tiny blob you can't recognize) and a few pictures and a video of a cat in different modes. Black hot worked the best for me (after trying them all one by one). It's almost like night vision - sky becomes almost white, and colors are inverted. I used it right after sunset, at midnight, and also in the middle of the night, which worked the best.

It's a great product. Was able to see the heat signature of a fox hiding in the bushes behind my tent. I missed the fox with my night vision goggles. I wish that the display would turn off when it is away from your eye. And the power light is a bright green and easy to see in the dark if you wanted to be stealthily. Other than that I have no other complaints. The viewfinder is bright and clear, controls are easy to use. There's a hundred different ways to use thermal imaging. This monocular is light weight and very well built. Please add a neck strap. Also this high quality thermal imaging monocular deserves a better case to protect it between uses. Still gets 5 stars.

just got it, but i am geeking out already!

this thing is awesome! i feel like i am looking thru the predator's helmet waiting to hear someone yelling to "get to the choppa!" i can see the heat signature from lots of things- the poorly insulated walls and ceiling, the usb charger on the wall, the footprints from where i was standing while testing, the wifi router, etc. etc. big kids get the best toys, and this thing is amazing. can't wait to test it out on a trip to the woods and the mountains and see what critters are out at night. wish i would have gotten one sooner. if this thing is as durable as they claim, and if this thing lasts a good long time, it will be absolutely worth every penny. menu is easy, changing modes is easy, adjusting diopter is easy, it feels robust but not bulky... very impressed with my first use.

Budget quality.

I really wanted to like this. I just didn’t. The build quality wasn’t the best and that’s expected for a budget thermal. The main issue was the front cover or boot kept popping off. Not the lense cover but the actually part of the optic. This did not inspire confidence. The buttons are ok after you figure them out. Another thing I did not like was that the image was jumpy. Not smooth at all. Clarity OK. Overall you get what you pay for I was just hoping for more. I ended up returning it. I’m going to spend a little more for a better brand.
