In retrospect, I might have been a bit hasty ordering this portable tire inflator/air compressor. It started off badly with the box being sent in a flimsy envelope. When I shook the device, I heard broken parts rattling inside and got a replacement. But, now there are other concerns. It looks like the perfect emergency, portable device but looks can be deceiving. It's made of cheap plastic and even my second order has loose/broken pieces rattling round inside even I haven't used it. The blessing of this portable device is also a curse. Although it's meant to plugged into the car for emergency use, it can be used at home with an adaptor, which I don't have (yet). And if you can't turn the car on for some reason, you're out of luck. I hoped to use this in the garage or keep it in the car as an emergency device, but it takes up more trunk room than desired, despite it's compact size. NOTE: I almost didn't order it because the size scale was way off in the photo of it beside the car. It looked huge, but the true size is the one with the person holding the device by the handle. Apparently, the tire gauge is off, but I expected that. I keep a digital one in my glovebox and never use pressure gauges at gas stations for that reason. If you have a good gauge in your car, this device's gauge doesn't really matter. My fear is that it won't work in an emergency or drain what little air I have left in the tire. The reviews are mixed, the price is pretty low, and I don't have much faith in its longevity based on the experience of other reviewers. Maybe you do get what you pay for, but I need to count on an emergency device like this and don't want to find out that I can't when it matters most. I'm really torn about this device. Other reviewers have experienced too many issues for me to ignore, and the short cord length is another real concern. I'm a little hesitant to trust the device. ORDERED ON THURSDAY WHEN I NOTICED THE TIRE WAS FLAT, WAS ABLE TO GET THE INFLATOR MONDAY, AIRED UP AND TO THE SHOP IN TIME TO GET TIRE FIXED THAT SAME DAY. WAS SO MUCH EASIER AND CHEAPER THAN A TOW.

This is one of those things which was either hard to find or very expensive in the past. Now, they are affordable! It was always hard to drop double or triple the price of an item which would only be used in a 'what if' scenario, if at all. At this price, the peace of mind of knowing its there on a road trip is worth it. There are so many positives here, I'll start out with the few negatives. The little valve you clip onto the tire stem is cheaply made. The metal is thin and the plastic clip is flimsy and likely will not last. I can tell just by the way it operates that it won't last a while. So, if you are buying this to check your tire pressure and inflate every week, a better made until may be a better investment. If you are buying this to use in an emergency when you are in a strange town and your check tire pressure warning light comes on, it's a great buy. I can't tell you how many times I wish I'd had something like this when my tire warning light came on and I did not have quarters on my for the gas station air machine ... or if I had a slow leak and needed enough air to get me to a station or mechanic. If only it included some sort of small bag or carrying case, it would be much more convenient. Now for the positives ... This little machine is powerful! In only about 30 seconds it took me from 24.5 PSI to 34. To get from 29 to 33 took seconds. It says to fully inflate an average car tire would take 3-5 minutes. It sounds like the gas station machines when it operates and the screen shows you the PSI level when you start and stops when you hit the level you program it to fill to. Its simple to use ... you plug it into the round 12V outlet (no 2-prong plug or usb operation) which used to be where the cigarette lighters were on cars. The side light will come on (SUPER convenient for when it's dark and you need to see what you are doing!) and the screen will light up blue. Hit the R button until it gives you the units you want (likely PSI for tires as most cars are 33-35 PSI for filling) and then use the up/down buttons to program the number. Clip the valve onto the uncapped tire stem and push the silver button. The unit turns off when it gets to the amount you programmed. The chord is long enough to reach all sides of the average car, although the rear driver's side tire was tight as the 12V plug in is located in the glove box on the car I was filling. SUVs might have some issues reaching all tires, depending where the plug in is. I recommend opening the window and threading the chord through. I will note that this unit is not high quality/sturdy. Its made mostly out of plastic and right out of the box, there was a plastic piece rattling around inside ... and the nozzle is a bit flimsy. It comes with 3 other nozzle attachments for a sports ball and what I am guessing are air mattresses, etc. You can store the hose and nozzle in a little compartment in the back of the unit. The value is there and the function works, so I have no issues giving it a 5-star rating. Bottom line, when you need this, it will be worth every penny. It's small and lightweight and will work doing exactly what you need it to. I am glad I ordered it but I hope after practicing with it tonight I won't actually need it to get me out of a jam in the future. ... show more
