Top Amazon Reviews

  • Well it arrived in working, functional condition. That's a GOOD thing.
Color: Brown/Gunmetal/Tan
This is a way too early initial review. You have been duly warned. I purchased the Expedition with the light brown leather strap and a matte stainless buckle. It has a coordinated colored case done in a dark tone similar to a traditional oil-rubbed bronze finish. The dial face is in a sympathetic matte warm gray, with glow-in-the-dark white hour and minute hands and a yellow-orange second hand. In my opinion the entire package is pleasing to the eye, albeit in a fairly conservative manner. It's something that is easy to mix with casual wear but is probably too understated for formal or flashier outfitting. This particular Expedition is my second one; the first was purchased some time ago here on Amazon (the one with the drab green band). Because that one has been flawlessly running, I though it was time to pick up another one. In operation the Expedition is easy to set up. The crown is set up with three detent positions: the first of course is the disabled position next to the case. The middle position detent accesses the fast date adjustment function and the outermost detent allows for time adjustment. The crown worked as it should, although the middle detent for date adjustment was a little vague in feel and took a bit of time to properly find. I'd suggest first adjusting the date before finally adjusting the time because of this, because it was all too easy to skip over the middle detent and find myself at either end position. The crown also offers a dial illumination feature; press in on the crown when it's in the disabled (closed) position and the dial will light up in a soft bluish tone. As for its fit and function, the Expedition series suits my smallish wrist quite well. The watch face is perhaps a tad smaller than what I'd normally prefer, but its markings are generally easy to read and make out. The lone exception is the humorously small date window; in certain lighting conditions, the offset of the date dial from the time dial allows for shadows to be cast across the date numbers, making the digits hard to read without some amount of shift the watch around to catch the right lighting in order to make out the number. It's a quiet operating watch as well; with my hearing as it is, I can only hear the 'tick' of the second hand if I hold the watch close to my ear. YMMV of course, but that's how it is with me. As for its water resistance capability, I haven't had the (dis)pleasure to test either of my Expeditions in a dunking/soaking kind of manner. Nor would I particularly want to, especially with this new one and its leather watchband. I'll instead trust Timex and their quoted water resistance figure of a depth down to 50m. Not that I would ever want to test that myself; dry land is more than good enough for me these days. As for its most important metric, well it's been nuts-on accurate for the first 2+ hours of operation. I mean, I DID warn you that this was a way too early initial review. :D However given how my first Expedition has consistently performed, I really don't anticipate any operational and functional problems with Expedition #2. But if there were to be issues, it's good knowing that Timex offers a limited lifetime warranty on the watch. This Expedition was bought at an excellent sale price at the time of purchase. Even at its regular price I truly believe that it's a worthy addition to any casual watch collection. A-rating so far. ... show more

  • Timex Quality
Color: Brown/Black/Black
It's a Timex,,, what more do you need to know? You can beat the heck out of it, scratch the lens all to heck, get it all gunky changing the oil... it's going to last. So take the time to pick out the one you really like; you'll buy new bands and batteries but you'll have that watch until you decide it's just not as pretty as it used to be with all the abuse you've given it. My first Timex, a gift from my Poppa circa 1974, had a bubble lens. I had it for years and eventually cracked the lens. Even then it took months for water to seep in and fog up the inside. (I don't remove my watch when showering.) Being a fully mechanical movement (no battery), it still ran perfectly. I only replaced it because it was hard to read outdoors due to the fogging. And yes, I got another Timex. I was a gifted a Casio once, but the plastic lens just didn't impress me; it's in a drawer somewhere. ... show more

  • Nice everyday watch
Color: Tan/Gunmetal/Gray
I use this watch as an everyday watch. I like the size of the face; the numbers are very easy to read. The numbers and hands glow in the dark, which I find easy to read in the dark. I really like the detail of the second hand; it is an arrow. I have used this watch for several months and it keeps correct time. It is waterproof, I have worn it swimming and haven't had any issues with water. The band held up well in the pool water and did not take forever to dry. I like that it is solar, so I never have to replace batteries. It did not come with directions, I found out online how to charge the watch, it needs to sit for at least 24 hours in light either sunlight or a lamplight. The only thing I do not like about the watch is the knob to adjust the time sticks out farther than I like. ... show more

  • Khaki faced versions have a dark gunmetal finish case
Color: Brown/Gunmetal/Tan
Why did you pick this product vs others?: Great looking watch. Note that it shows a dark case color in the tan strap version and a different lighter silver almost matte titanium color in the brown strap version, but they are both the same “gunmetal” finish in real life. Which is actually pretty dark even though it looks matte silver in the brown strap photos. I prefer the darker case so glad it worked out that way despite the discrepant photos. It looks great with some cheap NATO straps. I have a few other color and pattern straps on the way. I like the khaki face because the white date window stands out better than it does on the white faced versions. I may still buy a white faced, black case version sometime as a beater if I can find it on sale. ... show more

  • I love the simplicity and functionality.
Color: Green/Black/Black
I haven’t worn a watch for 15 years or more. For some reason, I recently wanted to have one again. Before spending much money on something I may not want, I bought a Chinese made $8 watch that was kind of the style I liked. After a couple weeks, I decided to get my “permanent” watch, and selected this Timex Expedition. It has all the features I want/need…analog, military style, luminous hands, and date. It also is solar recharging and that is a nice plus. It feels heavier than the cheap Chinese one, so took a little getting used to, but I’m very happy with it and Timex’s excellent quality and reputation. ... show more

  • Buen reloj, buen precio.
Color: Black/Black/Gray
... show more

... show more
