This heater has saved me with our chickens water more times than I can count. I put this in a 16 gallon plastic garbage can when we took a vacation in the winter. It kept the water from freezing and I had it filled to the top. I didn’t let it lay on the bottom of the can I actually suspended it so it was an inch from the bottom. The quality is great and it hasn’t rusted. I liked its functionality because it wouldn’t kick on unless the water reached a certain temp. The design and value it worth what it costs.

We bought this to keep a small outdoor pond from icing over during the winter. So far it has successfully worked after a week of below freezing days, and allows me to keep the circulator pump running in the middle of winter. The fish seem somewhat interested in the heater, and I often catch them congregating near the warmer water. I'm probably going to follow up with a simple polycarbonate panel to retain the heat a little better, but simply adding this to a small pond is an easy winter solution.

Worked great for bird baths and smaller water dishes, no ice. I completely submerged the heater before turning on. Wind was blowing so made the water look funny in the picture. For comparison, the other watered was frozen solid. Make sure you use a good quality exterior 14-12 gauge extension cord. In between use, I unplug, rinse and dry it, don’t want calcium buildup. Kept the entire plastic pan defrosted.

This was only in a 2.5 gallon bucket but has stood up to some cold weather with no issues! More than a week of below freezing, melted all the snow that fell in the water from a 2 day snow storm and a 7 degree cold night.

I bought in October but did nit need to use untim a freeze this week and it worked only 1 night. Water was frozen next night. Cannot contact seller or return because window is closed. Very terrible waste of money. Buying American made for my next one.

Our heated chicken waterer died just as winter hit and I didn't want to spend the money on another one — especially since it wasn't that old. Also, self contained heated waterers seem to run small and its annoying to have to refill every few days. I decided to get this submergible heater, that way I could use the 5 gallon nipple waterer I use the rest of the year. So far it works great and I save money and buying more plastic. Win Win!
