TLDR: it’s good for the money but don’t think it’s completely game changing. I started out with a Logitech shifter, which was fun and enjoyed the styling, I would occasionally miss shifts on it and I think only a handful of times did it not register the shift. I recently upgraded the setup to thrustmaster gear and wanted the same manual shifting for fun and more realistic experience. I ordered the TH8a at first, it was a failed Amazone warehouse buy that was marked used-like new but was out of the box just in a bag and didn’t meet what I would’ve called like new. I did set it up and see what the experience was like and I was underwhelmed. I don’t think I would use the sequential and the shifts were a bit longer than I wanted. I know you can buy mods to help with that. I did however like how the unit felt heavy and was able to mounted with screws into the rig. At the end of the day I just felt the price tag with it was too much to justify the experience. So instead of ordering a replacement, I thought I would give the TH8s a try. It was shipped quickly and I set it all up. First thing just stuck out was how cheap it looked being all plastic. I honestly like the sportiness of this being black and red more than the metal. I just wish it was black metal instead of plastic. The mechanics really do feel the same between the 2. The TH8s does have a smaller shaft and feels to have a smaller throw. I also went ahead and order a shift knob and that help make the shifter feel better and look not so plastic. I don’t know if this heavier shift knob plays into actually shifting in the game because I didn’t try the knob that came with it. It does feel better shifting into and out of the gears better than Logitech. Just sitting there I was like this feels nice, but once I got it into the game, it felt completely different. I don’t know if it was me and I just need to build muscle memory but I was missing so many shifts and it felt like it struggled to get into the different gates, like up shifting from 2nd to 3rd. Which not in a race it does it so smooth but when your trying to be quick in a race it seems to struggle sometimes. As stated above I don’t have a ton of experience with a bunch of different shifters and it may get better in time but for now I’m a little underwhelmed with this shifter. ... show more

It’s my first shifter and I’m kinda new to sim racing so take that into consideration on this review. It’s been great for the first month I’ve had it. It was plug and play with gt7 on my t300. It only works with cars that actually have stick shifter so not gt2 cars and such but alot of fun with retro cars. It’s pretty durable for plastic I like to shift kinda hard no problems so far. The table clamp is the only part that I could see breaking because I see it flex if I tighten a little too much. It doesn’t look like you can screw mount it so just be careful I guess. It’s plenty tight even for violent shifts. Hope that helps. ... show more

A lot of wheels now a days have paddle shifters which is fun, but some of us like to row some gears. Overall it's very sturdy and well-built. Swapping out for the sequential shifter is pretty easy, although takes some getting used to. I have no complaints about this.

It’s made out of metal including internal parts. This shift can be adjusted with a flathead screw driver to create more resistant to give a life like feel. I love this product SOOO freaking much! I think its better than the TH8A, the TH8S just feels way better and the magnets just feel more powerful. Its not too loud, it dont feel cheap, and its USB C!. I cant wait to put a new knob on it since thats the only downfall.
