  • Good seller, okay strings
Size: E-Strings- Full Set
I like the seller, the strings in my opinion are a little too metallic for my liking but it still is a nice option !

  • Big resonance and great clarity
Size: E-Strings- Full Set
While on the pricey side, these brought much improved resonance and clarity, particularly making high positions easier to execute. They were a swift and impressive improvement over what I was using previously. I hope they (Thomasik) continue to produce these high quality strings.

  • Wonderful Strings
Size: E-Strings- Full Set
These strings are like Rondos but with a lot of depth and sweetness. They give you a full body sound and they last a long time. These strings also gave me a bigger dynamic range. These are to loud for an orchestra setting but they sing over an orchestra, thus being a good choice for a solo performance. Worth every penny. ... show more

  • Rich Sound, Smooth Feel – But Pricey!
Size: E-Strings- Full Set
These Rondo Gold strings are honestly top-notch. The sound is warm, full, and very responsive — perfect for advanced playing and performance. They settle in quickly and feel super smooth under the fingers, especially on the E string, which is often tricky with other brands. That said… they’re expensive. You do get what you pay for in terms of quality, but it’s definitely a splurge. I’d recommend them for serious players or gigs where tone really matters, but maybe not for everyday casual practice. ... show more

  • Impressive Step Up for Me
Size: E-Strings- Full Set
It’s a real luxury for me to try strings of this caliber. I’m an intermediate player who straddles classical, swing, and fiddling. I also play mandolin and guitar and those are my points of reference as far as economics. That said, I do appreciate warm, responsive tone and pitch stability and I can describe some differences between these Thomastik Rondo strings and my D’Addario Preludes. As expected, the synthetic core Rondo strings took a bit longer to stabilize pitch. Everyone has their new string routine and mine is derived from my experience with other instruments. After initially tuning to pitch I “gently but firmly” stretch each string in segments starting back at the bridge and working up the board. The steel core Preludes will slacken a bit but, after two stretchings combined with heavy pressure open string bowing near the bridge, they’re usually good to go, with normal tweaking for room humidity. Synthetic core strings such as the Rondos take more stretching and additional break-in time to stabilize – leaving aside the E with is solid steel (by the way, this “gold” set comes with one gold E and a second tin-plated E). Along the same lines, synthetic core strings are somewhat less responsive than steel core to peg and fine tuner movements, and I observed this with the Rondos. Once set up my first impressions are a noticeably brighter tone on the lower strings than my Preludes. I’ll add the Preludes have been on my violin for over six months but I’ve used them long enough to know what they sound like new. I’m really impressed with the resonance I hear on sympathetic octaves, it gives almost a reverb effect I’ve never heard from any other strings I’ve used. Harmonics are loud and clear even on the E string. The balance overall is consistent, across strings in position and in different positions. Aside from tone, the touch of the Rondo strings is slightly more “slick” to my fingertips, which I’m hoping is some coating that will wear off in time. I prefer a more dry and precise touch. Overall, the best thing I can say about these strings is they brought something out of my violin I’d not heard before – and that’s worth the experiment. ... show more

  • High-quality set that comes with a gold-plated E-string. A little harsher than my prior sets.
Size: E-Strings- Full Set
I typically use a different set of strings from this same maker, Thomastik. That prior set requires me to substitute in an E-string from another brand if I want the unique sound of a gold-plated E-string, which adds to the cost significantly. When I saw this set would let me get it all in one set, plus have an extra tin-plated E-string, I jumped at the deal to see how it would compare, especially since this line of Thomastik Rondo strings are technically a higher end series. Once I replaced the strings on my violin with this Rondo set (using the gold-plated E), I let it break in a few days. My impression is that this set produces great tone. Preference of tone is somewhat subjective, but I would characterize this set as a little more forward and harsh than my prior set. I would recommend it to those who are more soloists or like a more brash tonal profile. Like with the prior sets I have used, the gold-plated E-string requires some extra care while playing to keep it from squeaking or whistling. I feel like this gold-plated E-string is a little more metallic in sound quality than the other one I use. Overall, so long as you are seeking a more in-your-face sound profile, I recommend this quality violin string set. ... show more

  • Great value and solid performance!
Size: E-Strings- Full Set
I've played the violin for over 35 years now, and this set of strings we some of the best I ever played on. I find gold E Strings tend to have a better sound quality than most other E strings, so I was pleased to find this set had two E strings, one of which was gold-plated. All strings seem to be of durable construction, and I've paid $60 for a single quality violin string in the past, so a full set for ~$130 is a great value for the money. They feel good, and I'm excited to try them out for the long haul. Pros: - - - Cons: - Overall, Recommendation: ... show more
