It's vert basic but sometimes that's exactly what's needed. My house is two stories and very open. I have a forest full of trees and a central wood stove that does most my heating. It's also a timber frame with insulated panels with under floor radiant heat. When the old thermostat died I found lots of smart ones. I have yet to find a smart wood stove that can control the temp. So I didn't need or want to pay for a smart thermostat for the upstairs that only would come on when the fire died down late at night. This is exactly what I wanted. It's very basic. Just set the temp and that's it. It can control both heating and cooling (but I only have it for heat). The connections are standardized so connecting it is easy. I would like it to have internal batteries charged by the furnace instead of the two AAA batteries. But not being one that has to be programmed if the batteries die you don't need to learn how to program it all over again (since the batteries last for years). It has a back light that comes on when you press a button so if you want to change the temp at night you can see what you're doing. ... show more

I used to be an electrician's helper decades ago. I have a little training with home wiring. Number one rule, make sure there is no power going to the furnace, hvac, designated heating breaker. I feel confident I can easily install this not only because of my past work history but also because of the simple instructions. Identifying stickers are included so you know which wire goes where. If you are not certain of your ability to install this thermostat, please, call a professional to install it for you. I appreciate it has a switch for either gas or electric furnace. It is NOT programmable but thats ok. I just want a working thermostat. This is it! It is made of a durable molded plastic. The temperature display screen is perfect for my poor eyesight. This does require 2 AAA batteries ... show more

This simple digital read out home thermostat is a thoughtful upgrade for homes using an older thermostat. The digital numbers are easier for everyone to see and the controls are simply set. The back light makes viewing in dim conditions much easier on the eyes. The product is nicely made, and should last for decades. I replaced on old analog thermostat in my cabin with this and I have to say it works great. My place is seasonal so I only need this for the air conditioning for when it gets really hot. With the battery , I don't need to worry about a C-wire either which is a plus. The backlight is bright, but not too bright if you know what I mean. Install was super easy and it works like a charm.
